Another great episode. The U.S. entry-level IT/Cyber Security sector is very hard to get into right now. Currently holding a Bachelor's in Cyber Security with minimal Help Desk experience, how worthwhile would you say obtaining Comptia Security+ and CySA+ would be?

To effectively determine the skills, certifications, and training you need, follow these steps: 1. Identify Your Target Role: Research and select a specific cyber security position that aligns with your career goals. 2. Conduct a Gap Analysis: Compare your current qualifications with the requirements of your chosen role to identify areas for improvement. 3. Close the Gap: Focus on acquiring the necessary skills and certifications to meet the job criteria. For junior cyber security positions, the CompTIA Security+ certification is highly sought after. It validates foundational security skills and is often a prerequisite for entry-level roles. The CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) certification is more specialized, focusing on security operations and threat detection. While not as commonly required as Security+, it provides valuable knowledge for roles in security operations centers (SOCs) and similar environments. Beyond certifications, consider the following aspects to enhance your employability: • Personal Branding: Develop a professional online presence that showcases your expertise and achievements. • Networking: Engage with industry professionals through events, forums, and social media to build valuable connections. • Interview Skills: Practice articulating your experience and knowledge effectively to potential employers. • Practical Experience: Gain hands-on experience through internships, labs, or personal projects to demonstrate your capabilities. By addressing these areas, you can strategically position yourself for success in the competitive field of cyber security.

Sec+, CCNA, OSCP and build an awesome homelab showcasing your skills. Highlight the aspect of your lab you are best at/like the most and go that extra bit further with it than most and if you can come up with something unique and original. Show them you are ready to learn on the fly and don't forget to breathe.

I graduated in cybersecurity and recently found out that they didn't teach us the right skills or didn't go deep enough. Teaching us a bit of this and that, they only skimmed over Burpsuite. Now I have to do other certifications. Maybe traditional education has had it's day. Online learning seems to be the way to go....

@@Chile-solaceYou don't need an expensive laptop to get your online studies done. There are laptops running from $100-$300. Take advantage of the Black Friday sale.

To enhance your career prospects, it’s essential to acquire the skills and certifications pertinent to your desired role. Equally important is cultivating a strong personal brand. Additionally, building a robust support network-comprising mentors, mastermind groups, or professional communities-significantly contributes to career success by providing guidance, diverse perspectives, and valuable connections.

The Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification offers two distinct exams: • CEH (ANSI): A multiple-choice exam (code 312-50) that evaluates your theoretical understanding of ethical hacking concepts and tools. • CEH (Practical): A hands-on, six-hour exam introduced in March 2018, designed to assess your ability to apply penetration testing skills in a lab environment by compromising simulated systems. Achieving both certifications earns you the CEH Master designation, reflecting proficiency in ethical hacking. While CEH is commonly listed in job advertisements and can help you get your foot in the door, it isn’t highly regarded among penetration testers. However, it does provide a foundation for learning. On the other hand, the Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) is a more respected certification, often seen as a “black belt” in penetration testing. It signifies advanced skills but also emphasizes that there is still much to learn beyond the certification. The OSCP is significantly more challenging than the relatively easier CEH.

Hello, great video however suprised there was not any mention of those who's sole purpose is to manage, maintain and secure (cybersecurity measure and regulations) the data especially massive datasets required by both AI/ ML applications. Without the expertise, skills and professionalism of database administrators/architechs behind all the data stored that needs to be protected, all the roles you mentioned really can't do much if anything at all. It's like saying i have a very nice fancy car with all the latest tech gagets - but it has no engine!

I think the answer is: everything you stated is possible, but you have to keep asking companies, refining your CV and enhancing your talent. Dont go for just HUGE corporations, cause everyone thinks like that, but go for small companies and make your portfolio and youll have a fair shot. Sorry if im wrong btw lol
@ghosttiger84Ай бұрын
Show that your value is worth the pay you want from the company. After all, any company hiring is actually shopping around to get a good deal on a resource. You are replaceable if you cannot keep up, so always stay ahead of others and know your worth.

To work in cyber security in the U.S., you’ll need a work visa like the H-1B (for specialized roles), L-1 (transfers within a company), or O-1 (for exceptional talent). If you’re a student, you can explore OPT for up to 36 months of work after graduation in a STEM field. Most visas require a U.S. employer to sponsor you, so start by finding a job offer. Consider consulting an immigration expert for specifics!
