Love the baby holding videos they are my favourites to watch on this channel as he provides comfort to them while explaining the situation and cures too. Wish we had these types of videos here in the UK 🇬🇧 as where I live the health care is awful and the wait times for referrals are even longer it’s easier to book my horse or dog into the vets for a check up than it is for me or my family to get a doctors appointment

As always, Dr. Paul has such a great bedside manner with his patients and their parents. I truly hope this precious baby boy will emerge from this totally healed from the jaundice and protected from other illnesses as he grows up. If I were one of his parents, I would definitely feel like my baby was in good hands.

I was so excited to see this. I have G6PD deficiency. Some others in my family had babies born perfectly healthy, had very high jaundice, now have KERNICTERUS. Permanently severely brain damaged, since blood brain barrier doesn't work for newborns the jaundice lays on the brain and destroys it. Parents go home from the hospital so quickly they don't even know or understand that the child is jaundiced a day or two later. The parents say they cannot even look at the pictures of their perfectly healthy babies at birth. They have PTSD from this nightmare. Sadly some parents were told by doctors that it wasn't very serious. Until it was.

Linda, i am so sorry you had to suffer these. My son also has g6pd deficiency, he is 3 years old, he needed a blood transfusion last year. Please, may i know if you ever had blood transfusion? Thank you very much!

My son was "breastfed jaundice" as his pediatrician called it. I guess his liver wasn't able to filter my breastmilk. He was doing phototherapy for a few days but as his bilirubin levels kept raising they suggested switching him to formula. After formula feeding for a few days his bilirubin levels finally lowered and all was well. He's now 6 and the best kid 🥰

My 37.5 week baby wasn’t fed properly in the NICU. They interfered with breastfeeding, and he went home jaundiced at 5 days. Once home he started passing his meconium - the stool he should have passed in the first few hours of life if fed properly. The jaundice resolved quickly. Basically he was reabsorbing bilirubin that was supposed to be passed in the first stool.

True story. My baby was born perfectly healthy. Then the docs said she had jaundice. They wanted to put her under some artificial light. I researched jaundice and natural ways. My daughter was a few days old. It said take her in the sunlight. That afternoon, we went on a stroller walk. I let the sunshine hit my newborn babys skin. She slept mostly during the walk. Boom, few days later, jaundice gone, as reported by dr.

I’m a first time mom, he’s currently 6 days old. I had a rough pregnancy and developed preeclampsia making him a newborn. The day we were discharged they were a little iffy and made us go back to the clinic to get his blood drawn. It ended up being at 19 and we had to go back to have him under the light. We stayed there for two days and were discharged yesterday. We had to recheck him at the clinic again and it came out at 15. I was planning on putting him in the sun but it was so cloudy. Hopefully the sun is out tomorrow.🥲

Doc, have you seen a rise in number of babies with jaundice problems? There’s a theory that delayed cord clamping may cause too high levels. Thoughts?
@lindav11892 жыл бұрын
Thank God that this baby got jaundiced in the hospital. The problem is parents go home within 24 hours and are not told what to look for, then jaundice starts the next day. Especially if the child is dark-skinned. 10% African Americans have a mild form of G6PD, but other dark skinned, like southern Europeans and middle easterners have the severe type, like me, can't see the color difference. Can you talk more about what the other signs are? As you know and as some women on the kernicterus groups say, they had no idea their poor baby had high bilirubin once they got home. They usually rush to ER because baby is extremely lethargic, it's only then they realize a problem, and it's too late.

Doctor paul... If a baby present with a high level of bilirubin 30 on late age (1 mo 1 week).. Preterm 36 weeker... Admitted 2 days to NICU.. No jaundice at first few days... At one month presented with apnea, hypoactivity... Decreased feeding... Sepsis workup was negative... And his bilirubin started to rise after hospital admission at 1 mo 1 week age up to 30... Direct about 2... So mostly indirect hyperbilirubinemia... Medical team decided to do exchange transfusion... My question what do you think the cause is? And does kernicterus happen in on 5-6 weeks old... Or is the blood brain barrier mature at this age?

Hey, could you talk more about this? Like, is sunlight at home enough, or do we always need that photo-machine thing? How do I find my babies' number?
@kossy28552 жыл бұрын
He said it resolves using light and heavy feeds to flush it out. If that doesn't help, they do light treatment. Doctor checks babies number with a poke in the heal.
@annapolek43512 жыл бұрын
@@kossy2855 poke in the heal is not necessary. My baby had jaundice when he was born, after 2 weeks it went away thankfully to me continuously feeding him. They also use a jaundice machine to check the level, they usually do it around babies chest, without any pokes and bleeding. It looks like sort of a ‘scanner’

@@kossy2855 I understand ☺️ my son had a poke in his heal just for the blood spot check, they did it once for jaundice after 2 weeks discovery just to make sure it was gone as he was no longer yellow and there was no reading on the scanner.
