so i wanna know how to be more flexible for tricks, since i love figure skating but am as flexible as a plank :/
@amalia37856 жыл бұрын
Amazed Doughnut There are dozens of follow along videos on KZbin. I also suggest doing yoga, it really helps with not just flexibility, but endurance, breathing exercises and your overall health.
@scorelett44165 жыл бұрын
Since I’m a ballerina I am flexible already but I would recommend yoga and dance stretches. Ice skating uses a lot of tricks that I do as a dancer
@JustNatax35 жыл бұрын
I simply just can agree 100% Yoga helps sooooo much with building flexibility. It's all about holding and relieving tension, and letting your weight rest.

I LOVE seeing these moves on the ice. It's nice when skaters put forth the effort to include unique, showstopping moves like these. Too many skaters just look alike. I'd take originality and uniqueness over 20 quads any day!

I think Shoma Uno does the "cantilever" in competition (he did at the 2017 worlds in Helsinki anyway). Was fun to watch. Matej did it for longer in this video, looks hard hahaha
@wildchild11617 жыл бұрын
actually depending upon your flexibilty they can quite easy to do . i have built a device that helps people learn how to do them .
@wildchild11617 жыл бұрын
The biggest issue i have with skating is currently the isi /usfs . they managed to turn an art into a sport . such that it punishes creativity and uniqueness . it is why i hope that one day i can put an end to them or at least create a 3rd party that will allow people to do what they dream .
@agnessiaasianb.41237 жыл бұрын
plusminuscons It has been his signature since junior days! And on galas (and at SCI Fs yesterday!) he'll do the cantilever with one hand on ice
@wildchild11617 жыл бұрын
As far as having a cantilever as a signature move, i find that funny.because he doesn't use his cantilever in any different fashion than the other X amount of people currently doing them. Now if he did do it differently then it would be worth of being called a signature move. I mean i do cantilevers under camels, and i still don't consider it a signature move. if any one wanted to see that by the way here is a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGrFfHigh82Cm8U . but even when you can control your path all you have really done is begin to gain control over what you are doing. most people have issues controlling their direction with cantilevers, they just lean back and go were there blades go .none the less cantilevers are still cool and i appreciate the fact he can do it.good job.

PLEASE DO A SPIDER LUNGE TUTORIAL!!!! I tried it but could get it right, so please help a skater out.
@InoueTsubasa6 жыл бұрын
I tried doing it and turns out it's not too hard, just need a little bit of flexibility, core and triceps strength. Skate with speed, then drop to a lunge with your free knee on the ice. Quickly pull the free knee towards the skating ankle and slowly lower your body backwards (using your ab and tricep muscles) without losing weight on your skating foot. It's best to try on smooth ice. That's how I do it, but it's all in one swift move, just keep practicing! Falling would just end in a fun back glide xD
@megslemp29066 жыл бұрын
Go down into a small kinda crunched lunge. Place your weight on the skate placed horizontally on the ice. Place your hands along side of your knees on the ice and let the friction of the motion drag you back. Hope that helped

I am only at the point of building strength and endurance, and have encountered a couple of pretty bad falls. Please relate how to fall when it can't be avoided so that I avoid injury. Obviously. falling isn't the goal, but I am older, , so falling can have more of a negative effect than when I was skating in my teens and twenties. (I took a long break.) I know to invest in crash pads. That's on my list.

Wild child that was a hydroblade. you can tuck your leg in or out, it’s the same move. it looks cooler, in my opinion, when you leg is under, but both are valid.

Welp maybe one day I can be as good as you. Perhaps not with my flexibility but with my spins and jumps. I think I've gotten to the stage now where going only once a week is really holding me back. I am capable of so much progression, I passed every single person in my group within the first few weeks and have excelled. I am still a huge 30 weeks ahead of the closest person to me that started at the same time as me. I have flown through it. But now that I'm really getting there with my jumps and spins 2 and a half hours a week practise time just isn't enough. I feel like I'm never going to improve from here or ever get any double jumps or an axel because of the time. The idea of having to learn this with such limited time and on a public skate where I can easily crash into people is so daunting it seems impossible and I believe that thought is what is mostly holding me back. I have no idea what to do anymore...

You can try T-stops, side lunges and forwards lunges, crossovers, bunny hops, three turns (outsides then insides), backwards spirals, three jump (aka waltz jump), two foot spin. Try searching for beginner videos on youtube. Good luck!
@elliemegel28467 жыл бұрын
Light Wood don't be a self taught figure skater. It is not only dangerous but you could be using bad technique that will prevent you from doing high level jumps and spins. If you have to be self taught get a coach at least once a month so they can tell you if you are doing it right or not
