Hi Friends,
Welcome back to my channel! I've had a lot of you asking for more tutorial videos so I'm posting the most highly requested one today...HOW TO THE AXEL! The axel jump is the hardest of all single jumps because it rotates 1 1/2 times in the air. It's the jump that everyone struggles with, but once you get it, it's like riding a bike!
My two special guest and I want to help you nail the axel so I'm breaking down the basics of the jump and I'm also showing you multiple axel exercises that will help you target problem areas including height and rotation.
Let me know which exercises you have yet to try. Add me on Instagram and tag me in your skating progress videos to I can see how my videos have helped and inspired you.

@@thithanhphuongnguyen6539 ofcourse it works but only if you put hard efford in your practice. And you have to keep in mind that figure skates are athletes so if you are not fit and properly stretched and warmed up before stepping on the ice you may not be able to land a single axel.

Would be super helpful to make a basics series but instead of just a tutorial, like, Why You're Not Getting Your Backward Crossovers Right, and you and your students demonstrate some common mistakes in that basic move that beginners wouldn't easily realize they're doing wrong. Because I think there are plenty of tutorials on how to do this-and-that basic, but really what they need is to know what to look out for. The feeling is always like, why am I getting this wrong. Plus points if you end up having like a third skater who's just in her alphas or betas and she learns along with the rest of us. Ooh, and maybe your viewers can send you in their progress videos and you can include them in the next video for like a community building aspect.

Hi Michelle. Thank you. I had my axel years ago but without a coach I'm scared to do it. I've been trying to conquer that fear and have been doing the set-up work for it. I keep cheating and landing on my left foot though, but I'm happy to see that that is called a 1 foot axel, and it is still a bit of progress. Thanks for these exercises !

Wow, you have really added some new angles on how to land that daunting jump! I am 61 yrs old, starting skating a 26, first lesson at 30, did some axels on the ice (mostly two foot landings). I can do them all day long of the ice, because I can push off the ball of my foot. I will try some of your techniques! Really good video, good smile and presentation, camera and editing, (I am a proffesional videographer). Great job!! Lets get more adults to skate! It is a great workout for any age, sex, culture! Great job Michelle, love you and your students enthusiasm! - Mike in Adult Skater in Anchorage, AK.

You were so accommodating and gracious. Thank you for taking a photo with her. She's working on her doubles right now. My coach has me doing a waltz-loop-backspin drill to prepare for axel. It's so tricky and awkward! I'm ok doing the waltz-loop, but landing and going right into a backspin is very tricky. It's easier doing just the waltz-backspin. I had trouble doing a clean Axel as a kid, now I'm 31 so it's definitely not any easier haha! I hope I get it get it within the next 6 months or so. Thanks I have been working on and off on my skating for a year now because of exams and I left when learning my axel and I guess it realy has got me down knowing people get it so fast and I haven’t because I do like 3 attempts every month. I have the rotation I think it’s the height and knowing I can land it that I struggle with. I need to keep trying but it’s gotten me down because in my head I have been trying it a long time but in reality I realy haven’t so it’s sad watching others get it when I still cant.

very good video, bunny hopes are good to practice often people overlook them as well . Axel may take even 7 years to get if skater has no coaching or very small number of coaching lessons, I believe if back spins are confident and strong and skater is confident, has no physical problems, can learn to be quick, its possible for most people to learn. Harness is also very very important

I am going to learn my axel soon and i'm terrified, like I really want to learn it but even doing off-ice axels scare me. Do you have any tips on overcoming this fear? This video was really useful thank you!

This video was awesome to watch and very helpful but I really wish they had demonstrated the left handers axel! That would really help those of us who turn the opposite way than most.. haha
