These are all great habits and practices to simplify life. I like the tip about not glorifying busyness. Our society is always so busy and rushed. But there is no virtue in being busy. Living at a slower pace will help us be more fruitful and live more intentionally.

I'm so glad that I took your advice to write down my daily habits and contrast it to my list of priorities! I noticed that majority of what I habitually do is not aligned with what I consider important to me. For example, when I get home I tidy the house, check on the garden with my dogs and cook dinner with my husband. I felt like this was me prioritizing my husband, dogs and hobby. But, when I thought about the things I do with my family that really make me happy I was not doing most of them! We eat in front of the TV so our conversations are cut off after dinner is cooked and then we're hooked to Netflix the rest of the night so the dogs sleep in their beds. WAKE-UP CALL. I cherish when my husband randomly asks us to sit at the table to eat. This keeps our conversation flowing and really digging into deeper topics than only catching up on our day. Additionally, our dogs enjoy garden time because they're outside running around. But, they really enjoy walks that we rarely take because they get to smell new smells and probably sleep more deeply because they're actually getting exercise. From here out I really want to add these things into my DAILY habits. If there is time for Netflix around these things, great. Otherwise, there will always be the Saturday morning to get an episode or two in.

I’m an artist and writer (and reader of actual books) so I don’t precisely subscribe to minimalism but I love spaciousness and simplicity. I love emptiness and airiness. My suggestion for anyone who creates is to incorporate adequate storage for your supplies and creations so that you have no unpleasant visual clutter. Storage is so often the downfall for creatives, especially those who need to see what they have.

Shared economy is a good one especially in our self centered culture. I've been trying to reduce the mail was deal with a work, and I notice certain subscriptions more than one person in the office has (and I know they barely look at them); so jokingly said to one of the managers that maybe he stay subscribed to one of them and the other manager to the other, and they can share each magazine before recycling it. He looked at me like i grew another head. It's like they can't fathom sharing certain things.
@jreule6668
@jreule6668 4 жыл бұрын
One thing I learned from the book, The Happiness Project, is to "touch it once". This usually refers to mail and is similar to your 90 second rule. Don't pick up your mail, clothes, etc and drop them on the counter (or chair), take care of the issue right away. :-)

rtm12252 well, even then... I am a mother too but try to really have time where I only observe or play with my son. House cleaning, laundry and cooking when the little one is at daycare or sleeps. Of course, this cuts my personal time, but it is more relaxing than trying to do everything at once while my son is complaining just to have more time for Netflix in the evening. I am also working part-time if you wonder, but can do some of my tasks in home office.

Thanks for all of these! Another habit is to stop taking so much stuff with you when you leave the house. Whether it’s just taking the basics on vacation, only taking what you know you will use to a family member or friend’s house, or sticking to only the bare essentials (wallet, water bottle...) when you run errands. I’ve always loved taking stuff with me ever since I was old enough to walk. But I’ve also always felt weighed down by it, even ashamed of being the over packer or the “bag lady.” It’s still something I struggle with but it’s reducing my physical and mental stress tremendously when I commit to being okay with less stuff when I’m out.

I want to be minimalist person but it takes time. Really this is not a joke. First i need a mental decluttering from people and from material things. Im emotionally attached from things so i need a mental clutter like decluttering the negativity and be open minded to persue my positive minimalism lifestyle. When i was i kid i thought that owning all the materials things makes me happy but this lie for everybody. Because when the maturity stage comes or being adult i understand slowly what life it was. I respect opinion of others but 90 percent is pretending to be happy but deep inside they are suffering. Because honestly I am one of them. I hate the feeling of not being contented and comparing myself to others. And to look to be famous but pleasing everybody to get attention but honestly they are destroying your mental peace of mind. hahahah. Its was a big challenge to let go that kind of attitude to persue a new mindset. I think this video made me realized that IM DOING THE RIGHT THINGS IN LIFE. We can define minimalism by our own. For me minimalism is living less of worry about everything. Especially the materials things. I choose to enjoy simple pleasures with a peaceful lifestyle than a famous person who are always thinking about pleasing those people around them. Thank you i learned from you.

Binge-watching TV shows or even KZbin videos is something that I’ve found to be not inherently bad, especially in the sense of self-care. I feel like it depends more on your lifestyle because while I can understand how doing too much of it can be unhealthy, doing too little of it can also be unhealthy. I personally believe that balance is key with a lot of these tips you’ve mentioned; going from one extreme to the next is what’s not healthy or good for us.

How much does it cost to be a minimalist per month? Im 23 years old, and the cost of any and every living space is too much money. No friends or family so living with those is not an option
@vitamins00
@vitamins00 5 жыл бұрын
it depends on your needs. think about any monthly subscriptions you have and whether or not you need to keep them all. make a list of the foods you eat most often. go through your wardrobe and decide whether you need to keep buying new items or not. before buying things, decide whether or not you actually came for it or is it an impulse buy that you can live without. some minimalists spend a lot of money on things that others don't, it just depends on each persons needs. but overall, we tend to spend less than the avg person in general

@@vitamins00 i have no subs, i havnt bought new cloths in the past year and a half, i grow my hair out so i dont buy hair cuts all the time, i spend $40-$50 on food a week, i try not to go anywhere so i dont waste gas, I feel like im very different than the average person allready, all i need is a small shelter to sleep, shower, eat. But the cheapest place to live is $600 a month way too much money in my opinion. Any other things to cut back on?
@vitamins00
@vitamins00 5 жыл бұрын
@@dark_architect1644 when cutting back really far into things, its important to ask "if I get rid of this, will my life improve in any way? will I be negatively impacted by its absence?" you can probably let go of some things with that thought process. any more than that and you will be in extreme minimalism territory. for a look into that lifestyle I suggest the channel Heal Your Living. honestly 600/month is quite a lot to be the cheapest place to live. have you considered looking on places like craigslist for a housemate? or maybe looking for some online work to get extra income?
