My niece's '15 Oddy had the alternator killed by the spool valve. A shop replaced the valve cover gaskets and the alternator, but missed the spool valve. I noticed the spool valve leaking and replaced it but not before the new alternator was kilt. The shop did replace the alternator under warranty.

First guess without watching is spool valve leak onto alternator and no charge and a Honda Deadyssey

Yay me. Happened twice. I wrote a letter to Honda and tore them a new one the first time it happened. Sold it before the second time killed the alternator. So beware the VTEC….:)

Even the Honda dealership near me started overfilling the oil on changes because my VCM was killing the rear bank piston rings and the pig started eating oil for breakfast lunch and dinner. Really an overall disaster vehicle for me.

Disable VCM and that problem diminishes. $100 part, easy peasy.

It seems that overfilling the oil is a consistent issue. What benefit does overfilling provide to the repair shop? Charging for oil they didn’t need?

On my old ass car I would check the boxes next to the battery, spool valve oil leak, and oil change and ask them to see if the alternator works which could be just fine after a battery change. Forget the rest and the number goes way down.
