Always interesting to see what people buy in the food shopping and it gave me some ideas. When I buy sausages I wrapped two or three in cling film and freeze them because unless you are feeding a family you end up defrosting to many. I like your journals, it’s like looking in on a friend. Glad you are settling in Wales so well.

Oats. Of course it is a wise thing to do - putting out for the birds. My grandma hated to waste any food items and as we didn't have any garden, she always took old oats, barley or something of that kind - to the ducks in the park. Ducks just loved them.

Unwashed Fresh eggs can be stored on the counter, but store bought eggs have to be kept in the refrigerator , because they have been washed and are already cold. Temperature fluctuation will make them to bad. Depending on how old they are they can go bad in hours .if you can get unwashed fresh eggs they will last weeks on the counter ;)

Eggs. I've read somewhere (and sounded convincing to me) that if eggs are natural (not washed!) then you would be just fine to keep them out on the countertop. But once they are washed - that removes their natural protection - you can't keep them out, you definitely need to keep them in the fridge. And since the big nuisance about salmonella, USA would normally wash all the eggs before they're getting to the shop and therefore they keep them in chiller from shop onwards. But we in Europe don't tend to wash them and therefore are fine to keep them out. Ever since I'm keeping eggs on the countertop. Though I rinse them just before I use them, just in case. Because they say that salmonella can be easily rinsed off.

Hiya! If you push the air out of the berries bags, you will have more space and no freezer burn on them besides. When I was a kid living in France with my grandmother, we lived in a small village- Maximo brought our large order once a month. Even back then! I used to love carrying the order in and helping to put it up. This reminds of that. We went to the marche twice a week in a bigger village. I make small batch jam in my frying pan now that my children are grown. It makes just two small jars plus a table dab - very convenient. But I love my large soup pot too- it will be so convenient for you. I can in mine too- What a nice shopping. I have to go and get mine. I think you spend less the way you did it. No impulse purchases!

Fascinating! I had no idea this was 'a thing' 😀 Googled and found theories about how washing gets rid of a natural protective membrane. And also this: ' In the US, where home refrigeration of eggs is a norm, taking eggs in and out of the fridge can cause condensation, which may facilitate bacterial penetration through the shell. In the UK, consistent room temperature avoids this issue.' Get a life I hear you say! I def need a cuppa tea! ☕ 😀x

I'm a single bloke who lives alone and I find that keeping your eggs in the fridge really helps with the 'sell by' date Sean. Buying a dozen eggs at a time works out so much cheaper but eating them while fresh can be a challenge. The 'egg in water' test after chilling them can show that eggs to stay fresh up to 2 weeks after the 'sell by' date, unlike unchilled eggs...

It used to be such a common sight seeing people carrying heavy bags home from the supermarket ,& wise old folks pulling their old fashioned shopping trollies behind them. Now you rarely see that due to internet shopping. I have never kept my eggs or butter in the fridge. Oats are absolutely fine for the birds Sean, bread however is not. I have so many bird feeders in my garden & i often mix oats in with them👍 We only do one supermarket shop every six weeks & tend to buy in bulk. Most meals are based around whatever is in our weekly organic veg box delivery. My local butcher lost my custom when he refused to sell 5% fat minced beef so now we just get a £17.50 meat box from The Veg Box Company, the contents fit in a tiny space in the freezer. Great value for money & ideal for one or two people. I hope you have a lovely day although i'm sure you still have a heavy heart today🐾🐾Annie🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I use an electric skillet to make my Welsh cakes. But I like that cast iron skillet. My Welsh Grandma used to use her cast iron frying pan for her Welsh cakes. They were the best. She said the secret to making Welsh cakes is to soak the currents in how water….makes them juicy. So that is what I always do. Do you do that? Have a great week. Looking forward to your next video. Take care.

Hi Sean, lovely roses really pretty colours! Meg, our rescue cat, has the same cat food she used to have Whiskas until they changed the recipe and the size of the pouches from 100g to 85g and then we gradually switched her over! ASDA currently doing Felix As Good as it Looks x40 Mixed Selection for £13.99. 👍

Hi Sean, enjoyed seeing your Waitrose haul. I love Waitrose. I also love Lidl which has so many quality items for a greatly reduced price. For example, their Wheatos are almost identical, if not identical, to Weetabix and they’re much cheaper. Their Hummus is, I believe, made by the same supplier that supplies all the major supermarkets. Same product - different price points. I don’t know exactly where you live but Lidl have stores in both Treaorchy and Ferndale. Very interesting to see how you’re settling in. I shall continue watching. All the best!

As an American living in the Washington DC area, I found your video both entertaining and educational. Food is definitely cheaper in Wales than it is here! But it's great to hear prices have fallen over there. I think they've gone down a little here, too, but still quite a bit higher than they were pre-covid.

I can recommend Jamie Oliver’s one cup pancakes (video on YT), he grates a pear into the mixture so that will help use up one of your pears. They are delicious with some natural yoghurt and a bit of syrup. Be careful of the room diffusers as the liquid can harm the cats so keep it out of reach of them.

❤️ loved your video, & yes your right, no one buys me roses 🌹🥀 anymore, so i buy them for myself, Waitrose is expensive, even for there peas, you can get 2 or even 3 bags for that from asda of lidl or aldi. Youll spend less in the other 3 supermarkets. Morrisons do egg whites. Plus M&S do cheaper eggs

Sean, I enjoyed the food haul...would have loved a shot of the refrigerator :) By the way, it worries me that you are storing your grocery store eggs out on the counter...I know that some eggs can be stored safely out on the counter but they are usually "fresh farm eggs" that have not been cleaned and refrigerated. Eggs that are cleaned and pre-refrigerated are in danger of developing bacteria if left out. I did a little research just to double-check myself and here is what I found. Quoted from Eating Well---"You can leave eggs from the grocery store that you purchased in the refrigerated section on the counter for two hours. If you are not going to use them within two hours, put them in the fridge until you need them. Unrefrigerated eggs that have been washed are at risk for any bacteria that might be present multiplying. Additionally, when you remove a cold egg from the fridge it can develop condensation or "sweat" on the shell. Left at room temp, any bacteria on the shell can move with that moisture into the egg since egg shells are semipermeable. Even clean eggs with no cracks can harbor Salmonella, so it's important not to just go by the appearance of the eggs. Cold will also slow the aging of eggs, making them last longer." --- I have raised chickens most of my adult life and have left eggs set out but once cleaned and refrigerated, then they stay in the fridge. Anyways...I just don't want you to be sick so if you can make room in the fridge, I would get those eggs put away. Thanks and take care. Kim

Eggs that are washed in the process plant need to be refrigerated. Eggs that still have their bloom, can be either, but I don't refrigerate because cooking with room temp eggs is always better. Nice haul

Sean, if you go for probiotics plain yoghurt has the same effect as Actimel and other expensive labels probiotic Yoghurts.. I liked actimel for a very long time but then checked how much sugar is in it. It's not coconut water it's a rice/coconut drink. But if you look at the ingredients and amount of real coconut its technically water with some coconut in it:-) I have overnight oats as well and i use coconut milk in tins aldi and lidl have them very cheap. I only use a third of the tined coconut mil because it's up to 90 percent coconut, mix this with water or a cheaper plant based milk.
