Hey Gary: Excellent. Until I can memorize these, I made a Note that your viewers may want to copy and paste somewhere too: Keyboard commands (command and a single key): command X to cut command C to copy command V to paste command comma to bring up the open app’s Preferences command + increases text size command - decreases text size command F3 shows the desktop command H to hide the active app (without quitting or minimizing) command I in Finder for information (I prefer command option i) command I in Safari to instantly prep an email command 1,2,3,4 in Finder (I prefer the 3 view) command J in Finder to modify the view command N opens a new window command Q to Quit the active app command R in Safari Refreshes the website command S for Save As… command tab cycles through open apps to choose command W (instead of the red button) to close a window command W to close one of multiple open tabs command Y in Safari shows History command Z to Undo

One shortcut I use all the time is Command-L to focus the URL bar in Safari. For example when I’m on a web page and want to start a new web search, I’ll hit Command-L to type the search query and return to submit it. That way I don’t have to leave the keyboard and switch to the mouse when I want to navigate to a new web page.

Command I on a web page to pop into the mail app! Priceless!!! That was so useful, instead of going up to the share button then choosing mail, etc. Great tip!! 👍

As always, an excellent tutorial. The COMMAND+t shortcut is indeed practical to change the font. Related are the COMMAND+b (bold), COMMAND+i (italic), COMMAND+u (underline) and SHIFT+COMMAND+c (color) shortcuts to change the style of selected text. Huge time savers.

Hi! Just wanted to share that I've watched at least ~ 20 videos ~ 10 hrs of your content in last 2 weeks. I've been a Hackintosh user for about 5 years and ~ 20 years of Windows. I miss some shortcuts that I'm used to in Windows but your videos have introduced plenty of productivity tips that kind of alleviates that requirement. Thanks for the awesome content and explanation you put in your videos 😊

A lot of these are fantastic to learn about, but Cmd-I has been nothing but trouble for me. I don’t use the Mail App, and when trying to italicise words in Google Docs, it opened the mail app in the foreground, disrupting what I was doing and still not italicising the text. I eventually fixed it by reassigning the share command to a convoluted, 5-key shortcut, but even that didn’t go smoothly.

Command coma is awesome brother thank you, I use hot corner for mission control vs command tab, i think i prefer mission control, command back tick is cool. command R is convenient, switching views is very cool, this is a great video gary i hope i can relearn some old habits

Thanks Gary. Do you know of a keyboard shortcut for popup dialogs? Like when I delete a file on a network drive and it asks me a yes/no question?

Usually Command+period is cancel or No and Return is OK or Yes. Try it. Esc usually works for cancel/no too.

In MS Windows one of the shortcuts I use many, many times per day is Windows+E to open a new Windows Explorer window. I really miss that shortcut on my private Mac. Is there a way to have a Mac shortcut to open a new Finder window?

Gary, minor error at 0:38 or so. On the screen, you've got "B for copy and paste" - I'm sure you meant (Command) V.
@macmost3 жыл бұрын
On the screen? There's nothing on the screen. Do you mean the closed captioned subtitles? I'll correct those. Thanks.
@JohnnyHands3 жыл бұрын
@@macmostYes, you are correct - subtitles must be on to see the error (and, yes, that was lost on me, originally.) But they are "on the screen" from the user point of view - as opposed to spoken, which was what I was trying to convey.

when I am on an app and press command+m, it goes down on the dock but I do not know how to bring it up. I do not want to do it with mouse. Is there any keyboard shortcut to bring it up? Thanks
@macmost Жыл бұрын
You need to use the pointer to select it from the Dock. Perhaps instead use Command+H to hide the app and then you can use the app switcher to bring it back.

I do not understand why ⌘ 1, ⌘ 2, ⌘ 3 & ⌘ 4 do NOT change the view options in the Finder on my Macs. I have to use the fn key as well, so ⌘ fn 1 instead of ⌘ 1 switches to icon view.

Is it just in Firefox where they aren't working? Maybe relaunch Firefox? Restart your Mac? Check which browser add-ons you have in Firefox and disable them to test?

You’ll never have to hide your apps again if you assign each app to its own desktop. Then you can just command tab to and from them without hiding them.
