I apologize for nitpicking. The Long Island Iced should have the cola mixed in. I like to add the cola last and stir it in until it is the color of tea. Thus the Tea in the drinks name.
@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
Nitpick away, this is just how I do it! I completely understand where the tea comes from but it all ends up mixed together anyway and guests think it looks cool when I serve it this way. Maybe I’d have a problem if I bartended in the US, but here we’re not too pedantic about it haha!

I think I first stumbled upon this channel, when I was looking on how to make a Negroni. I just got recently interested into making Cocktails by watching a rundown of the 50 Classic Cocktails by Epicurious. I must say, I have seen a few videos on Cocktails, but once I came here it kinda stuck with me. Wether it's the magnificent production quality, the helpful tips on how to make certain ingredients (like syrups and such) and most definitely your charming presentation style, I really like it here! :3 A big thanks to you, Cara, Josh and everyone involved in this channel. After you and Steve teased me with the Espresso martini I gave in and ordered a Mr Black. Love this drink! I wonder about the espresso though, is that substitutable with regular coffee?
@BehindtheBar3 жыл бұрын
To get the proper foamy head you do need the crema from a shot of espresso, although a very strong regular coffee can give the flavour just about 😊. There are also some brands of cold brew type stuff designed to go in espresso martini’s like First Press.

people over here don't dig cream in their white russians, so what we do is shake up lactosefree milk with a slinky from a strainer and one icecube. this doesn't work with the fresh milk we got from the farmer for some reason, only with the lactosefree one. the milk comes out very viscose and frothy. i'd recommend this for anyone who doesn't want to use cram or half half in their white russians. still have to find a vegan milk where that is gonna work with. i like the addition of the macadamia liqueur. a lot of bars in my city will put a little float of 43 liqueur or maybe even frangelico on top of their white russians, which is also a nice twist.

Great list with some favorites and some ones I will definitely try :) It's funny though that I do use your channel and some o these you referred to here as reference when I try cocktails. Yet, for the mojito, no one seems to be doing it like I'm accustomed to. The recipe I used when I first started making these was from Playboy magazine, so it's legitimate enough in my book. I first cut the lime into squares, then muddle it in the glass together with a spoonfull of sugar and the mint, kinda like you'd start a caipirinha , but with mint (my personal twist is I also add a dash of rum at that stage so there'd be a little bit more liquid for the sugar and mint oils to dissolve in). Then fill the glass with crushed ice to the top and pour 60 mil of rum. With the ice and limes and what not, this is enough to fill 3/4 of the glass, so there's room left for a sprinkle of soda water to top it off. And then I stir. Voila :)
@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
Hey pal! We’ll actually do a longer episode on a lot of these with more detail on method etc, your way is totally valid but almost more flavourful than I want my mojito haha so I don’t muddle. Just a personal choice really 😊

@@BehindtheBar looking forward to the episode then, to get ideas. Cheers!

Thanks for the list, some were totally new, some were old “friends” I should have seen the L.I.I.T coming but it took me by surprise. Something else took me by surpise. I have had Long Islands in bars, clubs and restaurants all over Sydney and its suburbs and never has there been a sugar syrup component, all the sweetness was provided by the Cointreau and the Coke filler. Adding that much syrup seems like it would make it very oversweet. But thank you and thanks Josh for all the hard spying, I mean research.He deserves a drink.
@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
I also add a full shot of lemon juice- the sugar and Cointreau add up to the same amount of sour, plus the coke and and booze. I tend to find folks prefer this drink a little on the sweeter side but of course leave out if you prefer 😊

@@BehindtheBar well yes, the lemon juice is a given I was just surprised as it has never been in any of the versions I have bought but HTD Greg’s, Smilin’ Steve’s and now yours have all included it it just seemed odd. Thnks for the reply and keep doing what you are doing. Stay safe especially.

A question about ice...I notice you add ice last while others begin with ice. So that's a statement. Is it simply preference or is one better than another? And I love your videos.

Adding the ice last means you have more control over the dilution. If you add ice first, particularly in a bar environment, and get interrupted mid make you may end up with a watery over diluted drink. It's much easier to fix an under-diluted drink, you just need to stir/shake a little longer 😊

Here is what I feel would be a great episode for this channel; a Latin America blowout to promote both happiness and tipsiness. And here it is: (1) Margherita + (2) Pisco Sour + (3) Caipirinha, none of which (luckily) on this rather silly list. But these three very popular drinks, pretty much cover the entire geographical area of Latin America, which is saying a lot. And, I ensure this noble audience, they are really amazing as a group.
