Fun fact: the phrase "Pulling your leg" (British slang for having a joke) comes from hangings. Because they used to be so botched, like Kris said, family members/friends in the watching crowds would often run to the victims afterwards to pull on their legs, ensuring the neck would break so their loved one didn't have to suffer for longer than needed.

Another fact about the Brazen Bull is that its creator was a famous sculptor who was commanded by a tyrannical emperor, who also practiced cannibalism, to make a torture/execution device. When he presented the finished bronze sculpture to the emperor, he was both horrified and excited... and promptly volunteered the sculptor as the first "test subject." So yes, the first person to die in the Brazen Bull was the person who created it.

The crucifixion nails went straight through the medial nerve in the wrist, and likewise between the upper toe bones. So you were suspended by and on your own nerves, and the only way to breathe was to push/pull on the nails to be able to breathe out. You basically suffocated for days only being able to breathe when the fight/flight reflex got so bad that you would push through the pain to take another breath.

Poor Jesus, I love my Savior so much! He is so amazing for us, he even died in this excruciating way to save us from our sin. He is all powerful and could've hopped off that cross if He wanted to, but He didn't! He chose to die, for us, in our place! And if you believe in Jesus is God's only Son and sent Him to get crucified, and rose up 3 days later, and you confess that Jesus is Lord, you'll be saved! Romans 10:9-10 says "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." And you'll get to go to Heaven and be with God and Jesus someday! So please, everyone, Jesus is magnificent and loves you more than your spouse, friends, parents or anyone else ever could! He wants to see you in Heaven with Him for eternity! 1st Corinthians says, "O death, where is your sting? O hell, where is your victory?" Jesus has the power to save each and every one of us from our sin, with deseserves Hell, and always know that with Jesus, anything is possible and death is powerless because of God's everlasting love for us! ❤

Fun Fact Time! - The Pear of Anguish was generally disproven as a method of medieval torture, as the strength of springs at the time period that they were supposedly used were not nearly strong enough to rip open orifices, and could easily be resisted by jaw, pelvic or anal muscles depending where inserted. The jaws of the pear were also likely held closed by a latch, which would not be able to be opened when within a human, and the spring would open the jaws too quickly for the latch to be opened before inserting the device. (Don't quote me on this it is just something i remember from when I hyper fixated on medieval torture methods.) - The Guillotine was still in use in France when the first Star Wars movie came out. - Prisoners used to fight over who got to be executed first by the Guillotine as the blade dulled over time and multiple chops had to be made to finish the execution of the final prisoners is there were many to be executed.

21:27 Fun (but also scary) Fact: The Mafia still uses this technique in their torture practices, when getting information out of people, or get back at people who have double crossed/stole from them and to the people who disrespect someone they protect. Though, they use a metal bucket and a torch gun or sometimes a lighter (if they want to drag it out for a longer period of time), with the person either tied to a chair, laid on a cool floor (to draw the rats to dig deeper) or in the most extreme way, they wield a metal suit onto the victim (this is like pieces of metal that's attached to the bucket, wrapped around them so as to prevent it being taken off.) leaving no chance of escaping death.

Kris, I love this. I've also read and watched things about torture/execution methods through history. A little more information on "The Pear). There were also larger versions from the ones used in the mouth. These were anywhere from 10 in.-12 in. long and about 2-3 in. wide. Some had flat hooked things on the outside. With the point of the "hook" facing in a direction so that no major damage was done during insertion, but would do horrendous damage during opening. These larger versions were inserted in places below the waist. On a male prisoner...well, there was only one hole. On a female prisoner 2. When these were opened, they would tear/cut/shred internal organs. The prisoner wouldn't die right away. The blood usually stayed trapped inside. So if the loss of blood internally didn't kill them over several excruciatingly painful hours, then infection(sepsis) would, and that could take days or weeks. Keep up the great vids(loving the true crime). Much love to you and Kevin. Take Care and Stay Safe.

A buddy of mine and I used to sit around and get high and think up different torturous ways to die. One of my favorites that he came up with involved putting someone in a shed, inserting a pipe into their rectum and feeding barbed wire into it, leaving a little hanging out, removing the pipe, securing the wire to the floor, then leaving the shed and lighting it on fire, leaving them with the choice of burning to death or hastily pulling the barbed wire out.

The blood Eagle was actually done in a scene on the TV show Vikings, there's also a viking themed tattoo shop in south of England called Blood Eagle ☺️ Also I knew about the keelhauling before, it was done in a film I watched, actually it was done on the series Black Sails, it's in Season 4.

Many torture device was, in fact, not utilize. For example the pear of anguish. It's in fact not possible to "open" the mouth to this extent (or other holes...) with that. The iron maiden was also just a fashion device but not actually use as a torture device. But... there was sooo many other torture. Source : The torture museum in Lyon - France.

I’m a Percy Jackson fan and Nero is in the third pjo series, Trials of Apollo, and SPOILER ALERT he tried to make Roman candles out of some of the campers (ToA was so graphic looking back at it). Fun fact about the guillotine: they wouldn’t sharpen the knife in between the executions so inmates would fight to be first. This was because the lack of sharpening could lead to the knife not cutting through the neck at the first drop of the knife, and leading to having to live throughout multiple drops

Just so you know, Kris. People used to fight over who got executed first. This was because the more peoples heads were cut off, the duller the blade got. So everyone shoved and pushed to get first so it was quick and painless. But you fight Pete so it probably wouldn't be as bad

I really like your videos and the true crime stories are some of my favorites. As Far as the scaphism torture, there is no evidence that it was ever used. Like the mere mention of it was so horrifying that people confessed to whatever they were accused of. And there is a story about the creator of the Brazen Bull being the first one to suffer the torture. I promise I am not a psychopath 😊
