You should have put your fitted shaft into 910D2 for a fair test.

You're right if we were just testing the heads but the idea of the video was to show an off-the-shelf driver with against a custom fitted driver, therefore we wanted to keep the shafts different also to prove the overall benefits. Cheers for the feedback!

But it wasn’t really was it? The title of the video was clearly about comparing drivers 13 years apart not custom fit vs off the shelf?

That 910 was legendary...especially the D3 but both were very good. First ever head with the shaft tip from Titleist. Crazy that it hasnt changed from then to now.

Awesome video. A few months ago I was custom fit for TSR3 after playing TSR2 since Dec 2022. The 3 was better for me dispersion wise and ball speed. Gained about 2-3 mph ball speed over the 2. Best feel/sound driver I’ve ever played and I’ve been playing nearly 30 years

Without using a fitted 910, its impossible to compare clubs. Swing speed is down, distance is down. Thats it.

Great video! I have a TSR3 driver too - I bought it nearly 3 months ago to replace my 16-year-old Mizuno MX-560. I've seen similar performance differences to those you saw compared to the old Titleist 910D2.

@@GolfalotTV 😂 Yeah, I suppose it was a custom fitting, although I was in a big rush - I live abroad and I was back in England for a short visit, and I had half an hour. With the fitter's help, I narrowed it down very quickly to the TSR3 and the Ping G430 (I dismissed the TaylorMade Stealth 2 on feel and performance and the Cobra Aerojet on looks and a preconceived idea about it, and I didn't try a Callaway at all). In the end, I slightly preferred the feel and much preferred the look of the TSR3 over the Ping. I bought the 9-degree head with a HZRDUS Black Gen 4 60 6.0 stiff shaft - I didn't have time to try any other shafts (maybe they didn't have any anyway), and I think the 9-degree head was the only one they had in stock, so it was that one or go home empty-handed. I would definitely recommend taking much more time and trying different shafts and lofts. Nevertheless, I'm very happy with my choice.

Maybe a comparison with the 910 D3 would have been more accurate as the D2 is like a coal shovel or would the results have been too close!

Started this season with my 5 years old TS3. Then moved over to the TSi3 and ended the season with the TSR3, 9* with Stiff Tensei. Will likely go there once I am ready for new Titleist driver.

This christmas I visited the scraggy old driving range I used in my late teens / early twenties. Back then I would often carry into the trees at the back with my 905T driver, or at least one bounce in. Thanks to the modern miracle of the rangefinder I now know the trees are 265 yards. I was surprised that I came up a good few yards short of the same trees with my TSR3 driver, even mildly downwind and using a half decent ball. It wasn't warm but also not super cold. I shouldn't really have been too surprised. I know back then I swung driver about 108mph and now at about 104mph which equates to the c.10 yards drop off I saw at the old range. I imagined the new equipment could make up for that, but no.

That was an awesome driver. I still use my R11 from Taylormade that was from 2011. Curious how many yards I’d pick up with a new model

I care less about hitting 300 yards than hitting straight. That being said, I found that a SIM2 8.5° works. Straight and distance. I found a Titleist 975J with a steel shaft X100 at thrift. Bought it because it was $5 with a head cover. When I hit the Titleist, it went straight as an arrow. I liked it so much, I took out. I’m happy. Stats are great, but being able to hit the fairway consistently is way more important.

@@GolfalotTV ok thanks for replying. I'm guessing that it was negligible, ie less of an improvement than the older Titleist but an improvement nonetheless? Possibly just due to the lighter shaft giving you more club head speed. Just a guess.

@@GolfalotTV For the clarification. So the difference in performance could not be just the head, but also shaft and the inconsistency of the fit.

Correct because if she did it would have showed that the 910 head performed very similar and is still a good option, and fact is its cheaper to just upgrade shaft than buy a new driver, BUT that is not what Titleist want you to do.

Great point, but not necessarily same shaft but best shaft fitted to the 910. Custom fit is so variable. My mate got fitted with range balls. Bizarre
@pgowan357 Жыл бұрын
@@mrwoo33 most of the shafts back then were heavier. I'm not a fan of fittings for most recreational golfers. If players use some common sense they can pick the correct shaft and play with the settings and get it right. In this case it's good to see how different clubs can be compared to older stuff but not if you put a modern shaft in an old driver. That just makes it newer and better and not what it was.
@dkvalour3574 Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but unless the total weight of the club is different, your club head speed shouldnt be that different. The driver heads reached the optimum in terms of aerodynamic years ago.

Mittens? Why would you live in such a climate?😁😁😁 Seriously, find a club that works and learn to love it. If I could be really picky, like ALL other reviewers, it would help a lot if we knew height and weight of the reviewer so we could compare ourselves more accurately. For example, I'm just 170cm and 79 kg ( so short and dumpy) and I cannot get the same performance out of a club as someone who's 185cm and 65kg. Yes, I understand that fitting will sort this out but anything to help understand reviews would help.
