The first time I went to the Grand Canyon I was just a kid. I ran up to the rail having no idea what I was about to see. And then I stood their frozen for several seconds in awe. I then stepped back several feet, having a brand new respect for heights. What a place.

Went there in 2019 for the first time at the age of 54. It took my breath away. I did notice that there were many young people sitting or standing well off trail, beyond any railings, on shockingly high and abrupt outcroppings. Nobody is really prevented from going right off the edge if they wanted to or if they were careless enough.

The first time I went there. I remember a group of about ten Asians who wanted to take a picture together. They had crossed the barriers. They were on the edge of the void. Then jumped in place again and again . Because they wanted to take a picture with their feet off the ground at the same time . Terrifying to watch. 😅

In an interview the teenager said there were people trying to get their pictures taken so he backed up to give them room and he was kneeling down holding onto a rock but then realized it wasn't secure and he lost his balance . I'm glad he's alive but once again begs the question of people being too close to the edge . Instead of backing up to make room for the people he should have walked past them and gone away from the edge .

Between this and last week a man was desolved into the yellow stone hot spring and die, or another was injured by bison in Wyoming, these people forget to bring their brains when they left their home. I was at Grand canyon in June 2018, saw many young people stood at the edge with only flip flops, the ground is full of tiny rocks where its so easy to slip down. During the same trip to the Horseshoe Bend, even more tourist sitting on the edge for selfies all these for social media. If they fell off the cliff, they brought it to themselves. I only dare to stood 3 feet away and my knee were shacking and heart pounding 😢

Just went in June on this same trail. It was 9 of us, my daughter and I turned around. Everyone else went down a couple of miles. My daughter and I were petrified. Didn't even make it a quarter of a mile down. Its just too narrow and you have to make room for the folks coming back up the canyon. So when we were coming back up we were right on the edge of the cliff. I couldn't stomach it. I'll go again but I'll never get back on that trail. Blessings to all who are brave enough to make it to the bottom and back up.

It's nice they were able to help him. My mother, sisters and I visited the Grand Canyon years ago. We started hiking one day, I don't remember the trail, it was considered moderate and there were a lot of people. My sisters and I were a little ahead of my mother taking pictures. We then heard some sliding and my mother shout out. I turned around so fast thinking my mom had just slipped off the cliff. We ran over to help her get up. She was alright. We asked her what happened, she said the couple behind her was almost on her like they were rushing her, they were laughing so she turned around and lost her step as she was trying to move out of their way. I am so thankful that my mother was ok. Some people will say that maybe she shouldn't have been going so slow or that she shouldn't have been there. Maybe. But I think everyone should be able to enjoy a hike at their own pace and as long as they are being safe. Respect the land.

Visited the Grand Canyon from the AZ side. I had what felt like a panic attack. I was fearful even in the safe designated areas. When my husband went to take pics, I called out to him to get back from the edge, he thought I was acting silly, meanwhile, I was yards away from the edge hugging a half dead tree. Then on the way out of the GC my husband wasn’t focusing on the road, but on the sunlight and colors of the canyon sights, I started crying and begging for him to keep his eyes on the road, bc it seemed like the roads were windy and had no barriers except some weak half dead shrubs. My son gave me his baby blanket to cover my face from the sights while I was panicking. It was not for me. I wanted to get out of the GC way before the sun started setting with potentially no lights on the roadway. On top of that ppl intentionally step over the barriers in flip flops to take selfies with their backs to the canyon, one gush of wind and/or a slip to cause an imbalance, oh my!!! I just can’t, it stresses me out. 😳

Where's the parents ? Why was a 13 yr old allowed to climb over the rails ? These kinds of people ruin it for all of us when they close it down and we who abide by the rules don't get to enjoy because access is closed.
