In this pack of original patches, I’ve emulated famous vintage analog synths (Minimoog, Moog Modular, Juno, Jupiter), retro digital synths (DX7, D50, SQ80, Casiotone), vintage keyboards (Mellotron, Farfisa, Clavioline, Wurlitzer, analog piano, Eminent string machine, Hammond organ), and acoustic sounds (toy piano, marimba, church bell, male voice). For some of the synthesizer sounds I’ve drawn inspiration from artists such as John Carpenter, Tame Impala, Giorgio Moroder, Edgar Froese, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Isao Tomita, Survive (Stranger Things OST), Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks OST), Air, The Cars, Clio, and styles ranging from electronic avant garde, kraut rock, new wave, horror/soundtrack, electro pop, space disco, garage rock, psychedelic pop, and dream pop. There are leads, pads, basses, drums, all sorts of sounds. Whenever I add more updates are free!

@KurtFuller
@KurtFuller 7 жыл бұрын
BabyDemonStudio - I would go for the microKorg yes or yes. IMO, Poly-800 sounds lovely, but only really worth it if you find one for under 150€ and if it's in very good condition. You can get a microKorg for 200€, or less, in excellent condition. It can sound practically like the Poly-800 does and can make a thousand things more that Poly-800 can´t. Only thing I dislike from MK are those mini-keys. But even so, and with only 4 voices, it keeps being a great little and cheap VA synth, with a great analog emulation and vintage sounding.
@DMC-mp9sx

Sounds great....I guess the microkorg is so popular for good reasons. Very flexible sounding synth, and cheaper. Go ahead and hate me but I think it sounds better than their minilogue which sounds not so analogue and not such a great filter either, to my ears at least. Great patches! 👽

Very nicely done. The microkorg rocks, I just couldn't stand programming it. I'd always change some parameter that would later take away from the sound and I'd have to search through them to figure out which one I needed to re-adjust. So i got the system 1 to remedy that.

these are awesome!! I got myself a bass station 2 as my first synth and enjoy playing around with and tweaking existing patches to create what i want. But for my second synth i was looking at a DX7 but they seem pricey and a bit of a gamble ( not sure I'll have the time patience or the brain to be able to program it to do what i want, basically twin peaks m83 style cheesey leads and string sounds..?) this video has peaked my interest in maybe getting a micro or an xl to accompany my bs2.. I am not a pianist so the small keys dont bother me i come from a post rock /shoe gaze guitar background so have a gun case full of delays, tape loopers, tremelos, freeze pedals and reverbs to play my babies through to tweak my sounds even more.. managed to even make a convincing string sound with the bs2 going though a DD7 and a reel echo. ALSO I LOVE VOCODERS!! is this a viable option or am i throwing money at a brick wall?
@W3TW4R3
@W3TW4R3 7 жыл бұрын
yeah buying a dx7 today can be pricey and a bit of a gamble. If you have a midi keyboard and a computer you can get the dexed vst for your DAW it's completely free and sounds magnificent. its essentially a dx7, its really hard to tell the difference. Another option is the reface dx which I also have. It's pretty good but dont buy it expecting it to sound exactly like the og dx7.
@justanothersnakecvlt
@justanothersnakecvlt 7 жыл бұрын
Ok, here's my take. FM synthesis (like on the DX7) has a really steep learning curve. Creating your own patches, even modifying patches, isn't easy. That said, there's thousands of patches you can find all over the internet for it. There are no built-in effects and it can sound pretty dry, but with your effects setup you should be able to get some great sounds. DX7 is great for that 80s/early 90s digital sound. Supposedly the Roland D550 and MKS-70 were used on Twin Peaks -- worth looking into as well if you really want that specific digital sound from that era. As far as the MicroKORG and mk XL go, I think the MicroKORG sounds a little better than the XL, but the XL is way more flexible and does have a more digital sound to it, if you're into that. The MicroKORG vocoder is cool, but won't ever give you legible results. I haven't really messed around with the XL's vocoder. The size makes them convenient for traveling+touring with. I can have a go at emulating some "m83 style cheesey leads" if you have some specific ones in mind.

@Thoracius
@Thoracius 8 жыл бұрын
I've received a few requests so far that I've added to the pack: 1. two variations of a Gary Numan-style Polymoog "Vox Humana" patch 2. a gnarly detuned moogy patch emulating the bass in the intro in a song called "Black White Jesus" 3. a DX7-style piano I also added another digital bell sound, some old school analog-sounding patches, and a couple brass patches. 96 patches in total now. If you have any more requests, post them here.
@Thoracius
@Thoracius 8 жыл бұрын
Ah, a Mellotron and a Hammond organ through a Leslie... these are two ridiculously difficult sounds to emulate on a synthesizer, because the Mellotron is playing back actual recorded instruments (in this case a flute), on warbly, heavily saturated, frequency-limited analog tape, and the organ has a physically controlled motorized spinning speaker. All these elements are extremely nuanced, and the microKORG doesn't have very extensive patching capabilities. I gave it a shot though -- I'm adding to the pack a flute and another hammond/leslie organ that are somewhat in the vein of this track, and they're both very usable, but to be honest they don't come close to the distinct character that makes these sounds what they are in the track you posted.

Very nice video! Thanks for posting it, it sounds amazing and you make it sound amazing , so much that I´m thinking of getting one myself but I´m afraid and I´ve also been told that its keys are kind of weak and they eventually get broken, is that really so? That would make me think twice about buying one and I can even see that your unit has some loose keys, how did that happen?
@Thoracius
@Thoracius 4 жыл бұрын
Just get a good case for it and be gentle when lugging it around from place to place and you won't have to worry about the keys. They break because it gets thrown in the back of a car with a bunch of other gear and the keys get smashed or caught on something. That kind of abuse would break the keys of any keyboard. I've also had it for nearly 20 years. I wouldn't worry about the keys. It's a cool keyboard that's well worth the money.

I would love some Tame Impala/The Doors vibes! I'm looking forward to buy this synth, but I want to be sure if I can replicate those early 70s psychedelic sounds! Light My Fire/Riders on the storm (Doors) and Enders Toi/Nangs (Tame Impala) are specifically what I'm looking for.
@Thoracius
@Thoracius 8 жыл бұрын
Just made a Light My Fire-style Vox Continental organ and added it to the pack. My Wurly patch matches the timbre of the Riders on the Storm piano actually pretty well (probably about as good as you can get on a VA synth). There are a whole slew of patches that fit the Tame Impala vibe -- Nangs sound at 7:14 in this video .. I've also added a handful more since making this video, but nothing perfectly like in Endors Toi, but definitely similar vibes. Endors Toi is hard because there's layers of synths and so many effects over everything, and well the built-in chorus effect in the MicroKORG is nothing like on a Juno, and the phaser is pretty weak compared to what you hear in Tame Impala, and on top of that you can't put both built-in effects on the same patch. So those are some of the limited factors.

Check out the organs at 30 seconds in: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bInYkJWobtt0rJY The Mac Demarco stuff is hard, since it's been processed to give it a lo-fi tape feel, which has a a bit more nuanced character than anything the MicroKORG can do.

@Thoracius
@Thoracius 7 жыл бұрын
Jason Reves yep when you transfer a bank to the microKORG it overwrites whatever the patches that are on there and saves it on the device. and it goes both ways, you can transfer from the microKORG to your computer. you can create a new bank by dragging and dropping from other banks. very flexible.

Yeah, it might be called just "Dream pop choir pad" or something along those lines. The trick to that patch is the mod wheel changes the resonant frequency, so move the mod wheel up to get a brighter breathier choir sound, and down for something more throaty/nasal.

hi, sound great! can I use these preset and the default ones as well? or are any good ones from presets in this one? thanks!

@Thoracius 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. The original microKORG can only hold 128 patches at once, so in that case you would have to pick and choose which default presets you want to have and which of mine to have on your synth at the same time. You can easily mix and match or swap back and forth using the patch management software and a MIDI connection to your computer. I think the microKORG S can hold more than 128 patches at once, so if you have that one I think you can have the defaults and additional patches as well.

@@fritzthecat6164 Your question is still really vague, so at best I can give you a vague answer. You didn't answer my other question, so I don't know what you're trying to record or your expectations for quality. You can just use the voice memo app on a phone to record audio and then use the "share" feature to email the sound to yourself and download it to your computer that way. Or if you have a laptop you can just record directly onto the laptop through the built-in mic using any recording software, such as, for example, Audacity. These built-in mics don't have the best quality. If you want higher quality or you're recording an audio signal (such as from a synth) and not just sound, then you probably need to buy something designed for recording audio, but it depends entirely on what you're trying to record, whether you'd get a field recorder or an audio interface and a mic.

I just plugged it straight into my audio interface preamps. Are you comparing my patches to factory patches? Because the factory patches are just kind of thin and wonky sounding. As for how I accomplish my sound, it's the sum of a lot of small things working together, how you dial in the filter, envelopes, detuning, eq, effects. But if you're not getting the same sound from my patches, it could be a perceptual thing related to volume? Louder sounds sound better.

@@Thoracius what kind of audio interface do you use, and are the preamps separate from the interface?
@Thoracius
@Thoracius 2 жыл бұрын
@@kaliqnero2783 I'm just using a Focusrite Scarlett. You can kind of see it in the video. It's a transparent, clean, capable device, as is pretty much everything available on the market these days when you go one step above introductory-level gear. I might have used an external preamp but I can't remember. It was such a long time ago. At the time I was recording a lot of music, so I would have just plugged into whatever was set up for whatever recordings I was doing at the time. But that type of thing is so subtle. Like one preamp might sound marginally "better" than another, but you wouldn't really hear any difference unless you listened really close, and even then most people wouldn't be able to tell apart A or B. It's nothing compared to the really broad strokes stuff of a synthesizer patch. The microKORG has a built-in EQ that I push to the extreme. Really changes the tone of the sound in a big obvious way. And there's a bunch of other techniques that make the sound what it is, whether it's adding more noise oscillator or more detuning, ring modulation, envelope speed, etc. For example, to my ear, the mK's 24db/oct filter sounds super thin in most cases compared to the 12db/oct one. Makes a big difference. The built-in effects also play a surprisingly crucial role in sculpting the final sound. I wouldn't get too caught up in gear like pre-amps, because ultimately it's your ear and skill that do the heavy lifting and get you 99.9% of the way there.
