I've got a tutorial on my channel showing how to make this kind of patch on any subtractive synth. My Hydrasynth patch bank is getting closer and closer to being ready. Subscribe to follow along with updates on its status and other music and synth stuff I'm up to.

Hey man love the farfisa. Would love some desert/southwestern inspired sounds,..winds, whistles, thermin, steel guitarist patch would be cool!
@Thoracius3 күн бұрын
Good idea! Will take a shot at it. I've done some cool whistles on some other synths. And theremin too. So those should be no problem.

Hi, Thor. I love the Hydrasynth. It'd be cool to see if you could make some of the primary synth sounds from Talk Talk's "It's My Life," or to go even further back, maybe some of the Human League's sounds from the "Reproduction" and "Travelogue" era. Sounds like you've already got a pretty good start on a patch set. I would definitely buy it!

Yeah I loved his guitar playing and was talking to him and asking for advice and it turned out he had just started guitar recently! and he was mostly a banjo player.

So you think the string tuning instablity has more to do with a loose neck pocket and not with the neck being extremely thin?
@Thoracius18 күн бұрын
I think a little bit of both for sure. It's definitely a lot more stable after honing the neck pocket.

I have the same issue with my cutoff and shape knobs. It also has a weird moving dot on the display when powering on the synth.

I bought a replacement potentiometer so hopefully that'll fix it. ( I just need to get a new soldering iron first because mine just crapped out, and then I'll attempt the repair.) Fingers crossed.

The video doesn't capture the glimmer of light reflecting off each screw and the chrome knobs. It's majestic. Very happy with how this turned out even though upon close inspection it has all the scars of a 40 year old guitar, which it is. And there are some mistakes with the pickguard, but nothing you'd notice at a distance.

I'm a big fan of the Korg Minilogue because it has this awesome warm and clean sound that I love. What's great is that I can add effects after I've recorded my sounds. That way, I can choose the perfect reverb, delay, or chorus for each sound. I'm not a huge fan of other synths because they usually come with effects already on the patches, which can be tricky to fit into my mixes. And yeah, I could remove them, but that's just extra work!

I realized after doing this video and posting it that I just kind of assume everybody has a working knowledge of how resistance and capacitance affects a guitar circuit, which is ridiculous because until recently I didn't understand it very well (and perhaps still don't). Basically they affect the resonant frequency, above which there is a roll off -- and they affect both at which frequency and how much of a resonance hump. Adding capacitance that shorts the high frequency signal to ground (like a tone knob does) shifts that resonant frequency lower. More capacitance, the lower the frequency. Decreasing the resistance between the hot signal and ground reduces the resonant boost and also shifts it lower. Increased resistance in line also darkens the signal. ( It makes a lot more sense when you look at frequency response charts that show the effect of different values.) that's my understanding at least.

This was interesting & informative. I don't know if the physics involved tie in with pinch harmonics, but it made me think about them & made me wonder why it's easier for me to get them by using the finger-nail on my index finger, which I leave long, instead of a pick. Anyway, thanks for your effort covering this topic & sharing it with us.
@Thoracius2 ай бұрын
I think the physics of pinch harmonics is that you're dampening any odd harmonic including the fundamental while allowing the others to ring because they are at a zero crossing at that position anyway. So you would expect that if you did a pinch harmonic right above the pickup even though you'd hear it acoustically you wouldn't hear it through that pickup.

To each his own. It's obviously not as classy as something with binding and inlays. And not as stylish as Mosrite. But I think it's cool -- it's got a 70s/80s surfer style to it -- Rusty, Stüssy, etc.
