Star Dahl-Thurston is an aspiring film and television producer from the island of O’ahu. She is the former Miss Chinatown 2022 and Miss Hawai’i 2023. She is also the founder of Kahua Kollective which is a nonprofit with the mission to invest in female leaders in order to unlock authenticity, build self-esteem, and empower engagement within their communities
In this episode we talk about being raised by a single mother, finding her strength, losing her mother to cancer, winning Miss Hawai’i, life, her future goals and so much more. Enjoy!

Coming from the mainland I have so much respect for Hawai’i. It’s just a different world in the best way, I feel like if I go home to PA the people won’t understand why I talk different now, and have adopted traditions like slippas off in the house, short talk pidgin, casual vibes, rice instead of potatoes lol just so many random things that are just normal to me now. I’m so blessed to see Hawaii from this new perspective. It’s sad that visitors just have no idea what the real Hawai’i is. I’m thankful that big island doesn’t allow the build up like Oahu. It’s sad to see the land covered with homes. I can’t imagine how the original aunties and uncles feel about this but I can guess. I pray there is a way to keep traditions alive and more Hawaiians can get access to homes because like in your other video the one girl says Hawai’i won’t be Hawai’i without Hawaiians ❤

“Thurston” as in unlawful overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, “Thurston”?! Hope not, what a disgrace to Hawai’i of she is of that bloodline, especially for how hard that family fights to keep Thurston Avenue that name, despite Hawaiians trying to get it changed… they must be proud of the name… I would be ashamed of it.
