A reason we might be more likely to get some extra beefy locks in Australia is there are a lot of remote places here with expensive infrastructure. Companies have things out in the middle of the bush all over the country and powered surveillance isn't always easy to do. Something that can hold off a grinder attack is probably more appealing if you are far enough from people that no one can hear the grinder. It's common to see locks inside steel box protection for that reason. Gates often have their padlocks hidden inside a steel tube that you have to reach into to open the lock.

LPL, I work on Financial equipment for banks all across the US. I'm glad to see you got ahold of some ABUS locks. But there's one in particular that I came across in the field at a medium sized bank in Alabama... I wish I remember what the model of the lock was, but I remember for certain that it was ABUS, and that this padlock was HUGE. I'm talking 4 maybe 5 inches tall, 3 or 4 inches wide, 1 to 1.5 inches thick. Padlock style very similar to this, just bigger. And. It's. Heavy. 5+ lbs at least. The key had two sets of teeth, one at the top of the key like normal keys, a different set of teeth in the groove of the key, and little concave "dots" on the side of the key... If I recall correctly, the shackle was protected like this lock, but the Shackle does not come out of the lock like this one did, after being unlocked. Could you potentially try to find this lock? The heft of the lock, and the design of the key gives the impression that this lock means business (and considering what was on the other side of the padlock, I'd like to think it was in fact a seriously strong lock). I've scoured Abus' website many times try to find it, even going as far as to search 20+ pages of Google image results for "Huge ABUS lock".

We sell abus granit series 37/60 to tenants and they loved em. Even sold a pair of gargantuan 37/80. This Australian model is too pretty all chromed out 😍

How hard is picking when the lock is shrouded so you can only access it from underneath? I'd like to see that
@siskospaceman3 жыл бұрын
Much more difficult. Picking locks in the wild is a completely different experience than at a desk with perfect lighting.

Picks and guts of hard locks are my preferred version of lpl content, though utterly destroying a crap lock and consumer information are both also great

When I saw how reflective the bottom of the lock is, I thought we might get a glimpse of the mask again.

Wait… which vid was this? I don’t know if I ever saw that!

This looks sure looks good on the inside as the outside. The anti-drill protection is something I would really want in a lock that I put on a garage shutter. I wonder if there are any other improvements that they can do to help protect against tumble pickers. Still looks mighty impressive.

Fun fact. This type of lock is in the gates the school I went to has. But it's a 2 part version. As in the shackle is mounted into a part of the gate and the lock body can be taken from one side a lock bar slid across and lock body goes into the opposite side

The premium version of this lock has a mini speaker within it that sounds a laughing kookaburra if being picked. I wish this was true!
@dlevi673 жыл бұрын
And the ultra-premium has an alarm that releases a drop bear on the picker, after the kookaburra has woken it up.

In Australia this lock and similar ones are often used inside of lock guards. It makes it a pain to pick when you only have room to get a key in with one hand. Trying to get a drill inside the lock guard and hold it steady at the same time is a hard thing to do. Have seen some locks with a snapped drill bit stuck in them. Then they try to take an angle grinder to the lock guard. Usually security comes around and interrupts them before they get to far.

LockPickingLawyer, how do you feel the difference between a set pin and a binding pin?
@3rdalbum3 жыл бұрын
A binding one is, well, binding. Difficult to move. When a pin is set, it goes somewhat loose and springy. It feels different to a pin that hasn't been set. Difficult to explain it, it just feels different when you push on it.
@dietertubeyou3 жыл бұрын
@@3rdalbum You´re right. I think the set pin has some play between core and the housing and the spring pushes the housing pin to the core. This play is different from an unset "hard" pin.
