Well, I'm thinking safety glasses was not enough PPE . With the possibility of a bow that heavy failing . I'm thinking laminated "warbow" weighted bows failing ,is more of a common hazard . Than we think . The materials used previous are not superior to current ones . The point that failure is always an option Kinda points out the complexity of the technology and techniques used to design n build these bows . I dislike this word ,but "historically" these are high technology. Depending on the glass n resin choices used by carebow it could still be labeled as such . Or the material jack used to repair it . Followed by each piece made is a unique example .since I doubt the bowyer Is cranking out 10 a day on a production line ( as jack clearly acknowledged) So glad you didn't get hurt jack Glad to see you fixed it Enjoyed the story told . N look forward to seeing more arrows fly . I will look again but don't remember the amo on the bow ,what is its length strung ?

If you go through the effort of finding, cutting and flattening a piece of horn for a bow, it seems strange to then just go and use glass when you are literally an easy step away from making an actual hornbow. I mean, gluing on a couple of sinew plates isn't that hard, although processing the sinew is time consuming. There are so many of these "hornbows" being sold now pretending to be the real thing that its difficult to tell whether its a modern replica or the real thing.
@HistoricalWeapons2 жыл бұрын
i think naming these is the least of our concerns. im a simple man and hornbow for me is a bow with horn for the bending portion. for a historically accurate hornbow i just use the word horn sinew

Anwar from Carebows does make classic horn bows too, but they're about 3.5x the price. It is possible that this style is highly demanded in Indonesia because of the tropical weather - it also goes to say that Indonesia is not a good place to buy a proper full naturally glued horn bow because it was made in very hot and humid weather conditions.

The problem with this combination of materials is the fiberglass is very stiff (resistance to stretch). The horn belly however has relatively low bend resistance. Bow making is about matching belly and back materials with similar bend resistance. A true hornbow has a wood core that gives the bow its shape. The horn and the sinew are matched almost perfectly in terms of elasticity and bend resistance. A true hornbow is a thing of beauty. It would be really cool to have you shoot some of my hornbows. I have a Turkish flight bow that is over 100#@28...too much for me to shoot in total control as a flight bow needs.
@2bingtim2 жыл бұрын
I see your point that the bowyer was making a bow far beyond the usual range. He should've been at least concerned it was failing. Pity you didn't re-weigh it after your repair & modification. Any bow exploding is extremely dangerous & can cause serious injury. Had a bow delaminate on me(My own fault on reflection, I'd left it in the sun in a hot car for several hours foolishly), so gave it to a mate who just wanted it for decoration on the wall. Another mate decided to fix it for him but I'd not trust myself to do a decent job. When you say epoxy do you mean Araldite/similar generic epoxy 2 part glues?
@HistoricalWeapons2 жыл бұрын

@@HistoricalWeapons are you sure that's a long siyah at 2:20 ?? that part is actually called a kasan because it's supposed to bend because the horn extends over it's belly part making it a working part of the limb which is the case for Ottoman Turkish bows, ming bows, Saracen bows and Tatar bows, the siyahs on such bows only apply for what's above the string bridges, or at least that's what I was informed about // But Like You said, there are also bows that look similar to this one like the Timurid, Persian & Mughal crab bows, but with those bows the entire bend part does qualify as a Siyah, because the Horn does not extend over it's belly part, making it only a Lever and not a working part of the Limb / that small difference, gives the former type of bows (turkish, ming, saracen & Tatar) an edge in performance
@HistoricalWeapons2 жыл бұрын
@@aburoach9268 thanks for the information, i didn’t know where the siyah extends from the string bridge information where did u get that
@aburoach92682 жыл бұрын
@@HistoricalWeapons I've had a conversation once online with someone who makes horn bows in the old traditionally manner & he told me that the siyah's are the end parts of the bow that count as extra weight, meaning if it's not bending like the limb to aid in the shot, then it's part of the siyah / in the case of your turkish bow that's only the part above the string bridges, the part below it, is the kasan which does aid in the shot and bend with the limbs Persian, Mughal & timurid crab bows don't have a kasan, because the part that looks like a kasan does not bend or aid in the shot because the horn does not cover it's belly part and therefor the entire bend part can be considered a siyah with such bows

To be fair to Carebows, at this draw weight even Saluki wouldn't give warranty on bows, as well as others. Many bowyers don't have experience making warbows so they choose not to warranty their high # bows. Idk if Carebows told Jack about warranty prior to payment though.

When you order a bow made in a humid climate, the environmental difference of biomes and climate of other countries must be considered. This is no variable to be taken lightly. With horn component, since organic in nature, more care must be taken, even if hybrid. This is my opinion after giving it some thought.

Carebow hybrid bows get excellent reviews from Armin but he is shooting 45 - 55lbs draw weights. I think the issue here is that as they had not made a bow weighing as much as 135lbs before it was very much an 'experiment' and experiments can often go wrong until faults are ironed out. The glues used are modern and it is unlikely that climatic conditions would have had an impact on the bow unless the differences in humidity and temperatures were extreme - a bow in a wet bag and a hot care in the middle of summer for example might certainly cause issues with the horn. I had two Grozer bows with faults, one exploded - to be fair Grozer apologised and said that he had been trying a new type of glue and that this was the fault; the other, a true horn and sinew composite I had waited for for about 15 months arrived with cracks and holes in the horn! Give Carebow another chance, I suspect that they will have long been considering the problem that caused the delamination.
