It's a time and numbers game. No "revolution" is possible unless our countries lose a major cataclysmic war. So that means ... Getting a wife and producing children with our values is the best way to fight and win.

Imagine family units standing together to defend their homes against a superior foe seeing their families die right before their eyes and knowing the same fate awaited them.
@Civerius3 жыл бұрын
That's how its been the majority of human history though.
@graceamerican35583 жыл бұрын
And what did to those family units. A woman with small children and a farm … with no other family may have been forced to remarry. Then there’s the case of older women… an event like this might change the course of this one town forever.

It's quite interesting to learn how bloody the history of Gotland is. Even today, it remains a military stronghold, and as recent events happened, the Swedes are preparing to defend it yet again!

The Swedes will fall there’s no moral unity anymore they were leading refugees in the lakes which ultimately will be the demise of their society

As an avid Time Team watcher, I know that looking for graves can be difficult. What is a grave if not a hole dug in one type of earth, then filled in with the same type of earth? Unless the dead have an abundance of artefacts, they probably won't show up on geophys. Hopefully, something will turn up to show where the burials are. Field ploughing has a tendency to be destructive, too. If it's deep ploughing, that can completely wipe traces of things like wooden buildings.

These battles were not out of line for Scandinavian history. Those guys were killing each other since the bronze age through the Viking age and right up into the late middle ages.

The intro was inaccurate and a bit dramatic. King Valdemar of Denmark was not there to destroy or kill Gotlanders. He was there to sack the Hanseatic(German) city of Visby. The wall around Visby kept out the Swedish Gotland peasants from coming into the city. The Gotland peasants did not need to fight the Dane/German army. Poor peasants died for nothing because when most of them were dead, the city opened its gates for Valdemar to plunder. The whole thing was part of a dispute between King Valdemar and the Hanseatic League not paying to sail through Danish waters. Valdemar decided to collect payment by sacking Visby. Sad story all around.

Great Danes a Viking to Irish shores were met with Irish hospitality and they left us never to return again. I guess hospitality’s the best medicine for the Viking.

This was after the viking raiding times, although they are Danes...... and kinda doing a very viking like thing, attacking innocent people without the means to defend themselves.

This program would be a WHOLE LOT more enjoyable if it was narrated with out the added drama inserted in the voice. Why oh why do so many who narrate these programs use so much in flux in their voices, irritating.

Was this the home of the Goths?
@Souliona3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Similarities between the names of some swedish place names and the names of Gutes and Geats have been cited as evidence that the Goths originated in Gotland. The Goths, Geats and Gutes may all have descended from an early community of seafarers active on both sides of the Baltic. Similarities and dissimilarities between the Gothic language and Scandinavian languages (particularly Gutnish, the gotlandic language) have been cited as evidence both for and against a Scandinavian origin.
