In all my years of performing I have NEVER come across an act that has made me laugh so hard, cry and give me the chills no matter how many times I watch it. It is pure joy and genius! This is absolute comic perfection. I cant tell you how much I am in LOVE with Popsy! Sheila is a star!!

My name is Adrian Brett and I am seen playing the flute and piccolo in the orchestra. We could hardly play for laughing. Sheila is a true genius but credit must go also to Bernard Herrmann, the conductor, who manages to follow. The hardest thing for any artist to do well when they are talented is to sound like an amateur and make it appear they are trying their best. She succeeds. Outstanding and one of the magic memories from my 8 years in the orchestra.

A bit like Les Dawson on the piano, it takes a lot of skill to look that hopeless.

What can you say? An absolute superb piece of comic timing and delivery by a gifted actress. To play a dysfunctional, out of tune Edwardian "wannabe" like this cameo portrayed is truly heart lifting. Have just watched Sheila in another performance of Popsi Wopsi on a different show of The Good Old Days. Wonderful stuff. Arthur Askey, Terry Scott, Dougie Brown and Patricia Cahill ( Irish singer) were on too, and first class value.

..... and the humour didn't stop at the end of a performance. Attending a function, once, at the May Fair Hotel (in its GrandMet/InterContinental days) I found myself standing next to her in a food queue. She was bubbling with wit and mischief, and loved getting feedback, as well. There was no "side" or theatricality to it - she wa just sidesplittingly funny, and couldn't help it. A truly great and unselfish comedienne, God bless her!

Great! Thanks for posting. I seem to remember Shiela was a "regualar" on the Good Old Days - A sketch that sticks in my mind was one where she is carried on in a sedan-chair , but can't get out to sing her song and ends up doing several acrobatic manoeuvres whilst pretending all is well ! (anyone else remember that? - or did I dream it up?!!!) She has an exceptional comic talent and has always been one of my favourites. So beautiful too! Thank you for making me smile once again Sheila. x

This was the year that The Good Old Days ended its 30 year run. Well, in 1983 the Victorian and Edwardian music hall was passing out of living memory. When it ended, throat lozenge manufacturers must have noticed that Leonard Sachs was no longer buying their products.

I cam across this clip just searching for and looking at various music clips.Oh I remember seeing this on telly back in 1983 and even now it still has me laughing out loud with tears rolling down my face. They don't have any good comedians like that now. Her timing is perfect.

So.. her enunciation is supposed to be appalling in this 'sketch', then? I didn't make it to the end of the first minute.
