Solid tips. I love the 1100. It has been my #1 go-to for gutting and pinning so far. Progressive pinned 3 to 4 spools, and may be ready to add pin 5 as a spool or serrated. The key pins are security too, which is neat.
@LadyLocks Жыл бұрын
That’s awesome!! They are great for learning on bc they are guttable and you can progressive pin them and switch around the pins etc. Thank you for checking this video out. 😍🥰😘❤️☺️

Unfortunately, I just did what you said we should be careful of... I closed the lock shackle with the core in the picked position. Can you give a little instruction on how to recover this? Thank you, great video... you were very helpful and I was able to quickly pick the 1100 that has been killing me for months.
@LadyLocksАй бұрын
Oh wow thank you so much!! Sure, first you. need to identify where the key pins are inside the turned keyway. You want to make sure that you turn the keyway back in the correct direction. So read this whole thing before doing anything. Lol ... Ok, so I'm assuming you are talking about the American 1100, so with that screw cap (that makes a little bump on the face of the lock) with that facing upward, if you look at the keyway which will be sideways at this point, if the keypins are on the right side, you just take a tensioner and spin the core counter clockwise back to up and down (center) and you are all set. BUT if the keypins are on the left side that means the core spun back a bit past the shear line when you closed the shackle and in this instance, take your tool and spin the core clock wise back to up and down (center) and you're all set. Test it with the key and it should be fine now. Lmk if this helps.

Hey Jen, Yes, I can second everything you say. TOK with 0.050" tension wrench (long end), Monkey Paw, a little more tension than most would guess for such a finicky lock, a little raking helps, check for open, watch out for the key pin changing holes when you rotate the plug back in place, progressive pinning to learn,... I could go on and on but would be repeating your entire video. Nice work. Thanks. Oh, my experience learning TOK is exactly like yours. I thought I would never learn and keep the wrench in the keyway, but now it is almost exclusively what I use.

Great advice I'll try it. if you like the monkey paw, peterson makes a "lifter" pick that is the same, but offers it in .015" and .018" and .025", and they are the exact size of American lock key pins. they are amazing picks. also, have you tried bending your TOK prybar? for more comfort? LPL does that to his. thanks for the video i learned a lot.
@LadyLocks Жыл бұрын
Thank you! No I've not tried that but I had some bent tok from covert companions. I ended up giving them away bc they kind of bent too far for my liking. If I bent my own though it may be better. I might have to give that a try. Thanks!! Also Idk about getting those from Peterson bc I don't care for their picks too much as they bend out of shape so quickly and for the price they should last way longer in my opinion. I know sparrows is making them in all sizes with handles on them and I'm patiently waiting for them to come out. 😆 I might have to grab one from Peterson just to see how they are though!! 🩶🤍🩷😍🥰😊😘

@LadyLocks lol not yet, it has a 0 or a 1 lift on 2 and 4 with a deep set on 1, 3 - so still trying different picks to get around those pins on 2 and 4 with out over setting. But I just happy to have a AL in my set now!
@LadyLocks9 ай бұрын
@@AndreCFW oh wow, well keep trying I know you’ll get it eventually. If you have to take everything out but the pin stacks on 1&2 and try to find a pick that’ll reach. Then do 3&4. It’s way easier to figure that out when you isolate the problem pins. I’m willing to bet as long as you’ve got a medium hook you can pick those pins. It’s not very big in there. You can also test the pick you’re using with your key. Lay it on top and see if it would reach. Anyhow, good luck to you! You’ve got this! ❤️😘😘😍🥰❤️

Lots of great advice, to be found here.👍 AL 1100s are a pleasure/pain lock for many newer and seasoned pickers, alike. They're aesthetically pleasing, feel good in hand and can hold devilish delights within. They'll teach much and as such, have become a 'Milestone Lock' for many, myself included. Quite rightly deserved too- they can be a true puzzle box. I enjoyed this, as always- honest, informative and down to earth vid. Thanks. On the subject of nail varnish, I'm expecting to see black, in the not too distant.... 😉💅🖤🔓🤘🎉

Aww thank you!! 😂😆 I actually made black a couple months ago and I rocked the black nail varnish for a couple videos the week I made it! 💅 🖤 😆 But since you missed it, I will do the black in an upcoming video for you! But yes I agree with all of what you said these are quite packed full of good and bad and spark many emotions when they are picked for the first time!! I figured I'd toss a couple tips out there bc sometimes it takes one single bit of information to tip the scales and get that open! 😊 Thank you for all your kind words and thanks for watching!! 🥰😍🤍🩷🩶🖤💅😘😊

Some thing that really helped me on the 1100 is to start at the back and work my way forward. I don’t know why that was so paradigm altering for me but I went from not being able to open one to being able to open all four of the examples that I had after I was given the type to start at the back first. The 1100 So far is my favorite water I have encountered.

Great tip! Yea I start wherever, and then try the front or back and then switch if I have no luck. It does help a lot to try different starting points! They can be really tricky locks to pick. Glad to hear you've found a great way to get the hang of them! Thanks for watching and sharing this tip for other pickers having troubles.

Yep, pretty much. It's a big one for pickers over here to pick. They vary so much though bc so many places sell them I feel like some aren't taken care of very well or made very well idk. But that can make them hard to pick bc a vid will be talking about one that is made well and you could be trying to pick one that isn't and so it doesn't pick the same. But people keep picking em. Lol. Thanks for watching Greg!

Yea, it's a hell of a lock. And pretty tough to open when you are new that's for sure. Maybe try some Masterlocks to get the hang of picking locks without security pins. The LPU Belt Explorer website ranks locks from easy to difficult and you could find something a bit easier to start out on. Just don't give up all together because you can get the hang of it with enough practice. They sell these on Amazon too for around $10 and if you got a new one with a key, you could progressively pin it. Good luck my friend and thanks for watching!
