Progressive pinned mine and I can open it with 2, 3, 4 pins, but 5 pins has been impossible so looking forward to this. Also video idea, show off all of your 3D printed locksport related items.

Same exact thing happened to me. Try a different binding order. I found my 3rd pin was all the way down and the 4th and 5th were all the way up so it was super hard to get 5 and 4 set without touching 3. Try setting 5 and 4 first then 123. Never know man. It took me about 2 weeks to get mine. I didn't progressive pin mine tho. Looking at the bitting on the key rele helps too

Sometimes you need quite a deep hook. I've found the medium pointy SSDeV very effective, even in 0.025" and is my go-to pick for A1100s. If that doesn't work I'll go for a thinner one.

A1100s have quite a strong core spring which means sometimes you can have them open without knowing. Picking anticlockwise negates this as there is no spring tension and makes it easier to know when it's open. Great video and includes loads of good tips. I vary tension a lot going from strong to light etc. I also overset A1100s on purpose somethimes and catch the pins as they drop.

perfect timing for me too. Out of 5 1100s I was able to get here in Europe, I can only open one. I consider it luck or "a fluke", and I really really want to master the other 4.

It was very encouraging seeing that even as an experienced locksport picker you also had one or two that caused you "a littl trouble". By that I mean you had to change your strategy. For someone new to the hobby this taught me a lot! So much great information. Thank you.

Love the video, watched the whole way thru, one because I love watching and two because I get allot out of it, I got my first 1100 open the other day, and since have not gotten it again so many just keep trying, funny I also set them down after about 3 minutes and then blow thru my easy locks then back at it, then repeat 3-4 times and decide today isn’t the day. For everyone who is struggling with their one and only A1100.... some can be quite tricky to open (as Sandman showed) so don't give up and get a few or progressive pin them. I have about 10 or so and some are a real PITA to pick! 😀

Didn’t take much in when I watched this last. But I just got 24 of these in last night. Thought I was going to have to progressively pin it just to get the hang of the feeling of it as I wasn’t getting too far with them. Decided to come back to this video and give them a try while watching. I was able to put your tips to use in real time and started getting a feel for what was going on in there and opened 8 during this video. Thanks man. Serrations have always been my kryptonite. I can easily stack up the 410s but 1100s have always given me trouble 🤘

Been working on 1100 lately and I've preferred short hook since beginning a month or so ago, but now I'll try med or deep since I've only gotten two opens on one of the two 1100s I have and one open on the other. Thnx for tips.

Have to say I have to laugh every time a US picker says the American 1100 is a $9.00 lock I think the 1100 i got after a lot of hunting cost about 1 UKP less than a brand new (from retailer) Ruko padlock with a flexcore. Paclok and Commando are also like hens teeth over here, though i guess some of our normal stuff would be quite exotic to you guys. I guess what we really need is a proper transatlantic lock pipeline ;)

PS I 'm not a master picker even in the slightest, But I do know why the turner tool keeps popping out. There's no lateral support... You finger being out and away from the point of contact is causing it to spin. That's why flat bars work better it gives you more control in the same axis as the key way.
@sandman_locksport
@sandman_locksport Ай бұрын
I understand. It keeps falling out because it’s just not the right size. I didn’t have an in between size of .8 and 1.0 mm. You said I need a flat bar, but this is a flat bar. It just doesn’t have any teeth. Are you referring to a BOK tensioner?
@UncleSnaf
@UncleSnaf Ай бұрын
@@sandman_locksport I shoulda said a TOK Flat Bar from Covert. The tool sitting sideways doesn't provide enough frictional surface to hold the bar in place against the force being applied. It needs barbs or knurling on the sides that make contact with the keyway. I should make a video on this.... Hummmm. I have found that Ergo turners have the same problem when the bend is too far away from the fulcrum.
@sandman_locksport
@sandman_locksport Ай бұрын
@@UncleSnaf I respectfully disagree. Whether there is teeth or not, the bar will still jump out when there’s fast movement in the core and I’m only holding the tensioner with one finger. I have, however, noticed the opposite of what you have, which is ergonomic turning tools will hold better because the absorb the feedback, less chances of them jumping around.
