Hello, I am Italian, I used to live in Matlock for a little while back in early '90s and I like to go back every now and then. The Duke has always been my favourit pub and I always wish I could go back soon and enjoy a couple of pints by the fire

You do make me laugh Patrick. Did you know you have a sense of humor? The story of the old mill where you lived provided a few smiles. What a great place to spend 18 months. I laughed because you said it was to far from the pub. And hey you finished on one to. Fabulous walk. Another enjoyable time spent. Mark

Hey Mark, glad I provided some humour in this. Baileys Mill was a really nice place to live, but yes it was a long way from where all my friends met in the pub at that time haha! And the pub I finished on was the pub in question. Thanks Mark as always and hope all is well. Keep safe 👍

Absolutely fantastic Patrick, thank you. I've just caught up with your last 4 videos on your "local" Matlock walks. My brother lives in Derbyshire not too far from you and I've shared your videos with him expressing how much effort you put into your research, editing and music soundtracks. Big thumbs up, all the very best to you for beyond lockdown going forward with your advertures and videos 👍🙂

Many thanks for your kind words Jeremy. Glad you've managed to catch the films I've made in the Matlock area. Yes there is a lot of work involvied in the research, editing, music, etc, and even though this particular walk is only just over 4 miles, it still took me over 6 hours to film, but I enjoy it and it's always worth it for the results. Thanks again and all the best 👍

Patrick we have watched 3 of the Matlock walks , you did pick a beautiful place to live and knowing the area very well where you moved from it must of been a hard move, I think on my next trip back home to the UK I must come up North again I quite often drive from Newent up to Scotland then take the ferry over to Northern Ireland as my Father was from there. I have been living in Canada for 40 years but I do come home most years for a trip , This has been a hard winter as this will be the first time in 17 years I have not wintered in the Philippines so I am missing my travel so its been a real joy watching and hearing chat on your walks . Many thanks :)

Matlock is delightful and that was a super walk, one that I will have to do next time I visit Derbyshire. It's always a privilege to be able to do fabulous walks from your doorstep and here in North Yorkshire I can do just that and enjoy glorious scenery and peace and quiet. I feel blessed as I am sure you do too. Fabulous job Patrick. Dead mans shoes is a great gritty movie and gets really close to the awe inspiring Riber Castle too.

Another wonderful treat; many thanks for this Patrick as your effort is always very much appreciated. Wish I would have had the time to visit Lumsdale falls last week when I was in the area. I wonder how the conversion of Riber Castle is getting along? Shame the windows are in as for me it has spoiled the haunting appearance of that wonderful building, however at least it will be preserved for future generations and those lucky (and wealthy) enough to live there when its completed! Great video, I loved it.

Love a new Solitary Rambler film,what a lovely thing to wake up to and start the day,what a beautiful walk Patrick,the lower Lumsdale pond was like a Constable painting,you kept our interest so much the whole time,love those what seem spur of the moment chats to camera,you have such a natural presence in front of camera as if talking just to the viewer,you would be great on tv.I noticed quite a few parts where you had set the camera up and then had to walk towards or away from it for the piece you wanted to film,hope you managed to do them in one take,such a lot of hard work goes into making these and we really appreciate it,as always some beautiful scenery and packed with information,this had everything and I think is one of your best ever,and a local walk too,I'm off now to do a walk,inspired by you,along the Trans Pennine trail which is ten minutes from my house,along a river to an 11th century castle and a church dating to 750 AD for lunch. Thanks so much for posting Pat,made my day that,and I'll watch it again with a single malt on the tv last thing tonight. Take care my friend. Pete.

Thanks for all your hard work. The painstaking task of setting your camera up at the top of an incline, then walking back down to catch you walking up. You must be worn out afterwards. Always nice to hear a bit of your life thrown in. Hopefully in the not to distant future, we will all be able to venture out more. Lovely to see a bit of countryside and excellent as always, cheers.
@solitaryrambler
@solitaryrambler 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Kelly. Yes it's one of the reasons I try to not to film walks that are too long considering the camera set ups and walking into shot, etc. I do feel pretty whacked afterwards, but once I'm home I get straight in the shower, put my feet up afterwards in front of the TV with a brew for a while, then enjoy a nice lazy day the next day. It's all part of the fun! 😂 Thanks as always for your kind words and for watching 👍

Another great video Patrick. You’ve got some great walks from the doorstep in Matlock. Really interesting ruins of the old Lumsdale mills. Don’t think I’ve seen those before so will add them to my list of places to check out. Great to hear you like the film Dead Man’s Shoes too. I’ve watched that one a few times. A bit grim in places as you say but a great film nonetheless. Take care 👍

Another great film as always! I visited the Mortimer Forest (Bringewood) outside Ludlow on the same day you filmed this episode. Many great buildings that I haven't seen before, including Baileys Mill. I think I saw that building in your Matlock film from March 2008, or it might have been another mill in Matlock. Tansley also looks great and I like the miniature parish church you visited at 10:56. The ponds you visited has an interesting history as well as Baileys Tump, and the soundtrack at 13:17 sounds nice. Looking forward to more episodes! :-)
