On a hot 90 degree day, we will take the walk along the complete distance of 13th Avenue in South Brooklyn. We will start on 86th Street in the Dyker Heights neighborhood and then continue through the Borough Park area. Both neighborhoods are so different that it will seem we are in 2 very far apart places. From the traffic patterns to the people, Dyker Heights and Borough Park are very dynamic next to one another.
The first part of the walk - Dyker Heights is my home neighborhood, known for the Italian culture, the churches, bakeries, cafes, and eateries. The second part - Borough Park is known for the busy atmosphere and the Jewish community - also including their culture, deli's and bakeries, and various different store fronts. Borough Park is also a one time home to myself - living on 41st street for a short period of time in the 1980's. When we get into Borough Park - I will talk about some history as I remember the area as a kid.
This will be the first walk where I make the complete tour through both areas on the entire length of 13th Avenue. Previous walks have always been separated because they are so different and deserve their own walking tour. Come along for this hot walk, and stay cool while traveling the streets of Brooklyn NY during a heat wave. And as always, Thanks for taking the walk with me!

Now, that was a very interesting walk. I must say, for those of us who've never been here before, your commentary is so special and the time goes fast. Your life experience here really enhances the interest. Hope you got cooled down and survived the heat okay. Thank you so much!!

Great walk! Glad you were watching the “heat”. Always fun, I used to work for NYCTA and we used to walk the old Culiver line! Amazing to see how it is built up. Thanks

It's really nice to walk through your old neighborhoods and remember all the good times. I don't know if it's still around, but there is/was a chicken market on W7th and 86th St. called Livoti's. I witnessed the head chopping and defeathering too. When I saw rabbits in cages too, I refused to go in there anymore! You must have been extremely hot by the time you got home. Hope you got to relax and chill.

The Orthodox Jews have lots of children so I'm sure that toy store does quite well! I managed for Waldbaum's Supermarkets for 40 years and although I am an Irish Catholic, I thoroughly enjoy the Jewish people and their culture. Great customers!

At 34:04 you are walking by Weiss Bakery. I heard it is very good!! I need to get a street map of Brooklyn so I can track the walk. I'm not familiar with all the neighborhoods.

I have heard the same. Also Dips Deli, just past 54th and 13th that I passed is a really great deli. I have had sandwiches from there.
