Another top piece of content! So, Si, I have decided to pull the trigger on an upgrade! Going to partner the 2 Arcam Alpha 10's, and Cambridge CXN V2 with either B&W nautilus 804 or the 804S or, depending how the saving goes the 802. I have figured out (with a bit of help) that the Arcams will power both 804 and 802 to a decent level. They will be my forever speakers (probably) then I can upgrade amps and source as and when, that is all, as you were brother.

I recently tried roon , jriver and audirivana. Just for sound quality I found jriver to be superior with upsampling mode.

Great video. Most streamers are pretty capable. I’m a BluOS user, but mostly use Tidal Connect. IMO it’s usability’ of the app that’s the tipping point when entering the vendor’s ecosystem. There’s at least three vendors using a version of the Linkplay app. That’s the WiiM people. Years ago, bought the original Audioengine B-Fi streamer. It’s a capable device but crippled by a horrible UI. Brought it out of ‘storage’. Yup the WiiM app will find and control it. Tried it on my buddy’s Songbird…yup works there too.

Leaving out Sonos again. Yes, their player does not do high res, but their app, in my experience is better. It gives a true unified search across services. Its cataloging and access of NAS stored files is also really easy. I tried bluesound, but the app drove me back to a sonos port, which i feed into an ifi ipure 2 which then feeds an ares 2 dac.

I wish I didn't have to pay for ROON every month but, it works really well. Really stable, sounds great and interesting you've done this now- weirdly enough there's some marketing coming from Roon that they have something big coming on September 20th. Pretty curious as to what that is... For stability, sound and navigation qualities, Roon is a winner for me.

@@13thnotehifireviews7 Ah. I hope it has some little tweaks like being able to swipe backwards and forwards through pages like I can on webpages (I use a mac laptop). And a bit better drag and drop/adaptability of the play queue.

Roon does offer a lifetime option. You will half to go It will take you about 6 years to break even.

Thank you for this discussion. I think we're at the spot where half-baked software can really crash a product. So, while I use BlueOS, Roon, and KEF, the KEF software is just a horror (LS50 wireless version 1). BlueOS is lovely, and Roon is even better. So, I avoid the KEF apps, and stick with BlueOS and Roon. And thank you for the lovely remembrances of QEII.

@@13thnotehifireviews7 Yeah, I got a crow-bar out, opened my wallet, and paid for a life-time subscription. And then I convinced one of my brothers to do the same. If one is totally into music, it's well-worth the expense.

Question please: I just purchased the Graham LS 6 speakers and I want to buy a streaming set up. The problem is that I am older and pretty helpless when it comes to technology so in addition to sound quality a very important priority for me is ease and simplicity of use. I will only use it to stream directly from streaming services (no personal files, CDs, phono; currently I use TIDAL, Amazon HD and perhaps Quobuz in the future). It appears that bluOS may be the easiest to use. Do you have a view as to whether the Node, if paired with a sufficiently powerful integrated amplifier, would be sufficient to get enough out of the L6 speakers or is there another device with bluOS - or any other system that’s easy to use - that you might suggest. Thank you.

I’m still confused about streamers, I stream from an iPod/iPad straight to a pair of wireless kef lsx. Are you saying if I send that signal to a streamer, I will get better sound. Please tell me the answer Simon

I have been using Audrivana for 6 years. It beats Roon for sound quality, but loses out on app user experience & network capability. I have not tried Roon via a dedicated Nucleus - just through a networked Mac mini. I cant comment on if this improves SQ - but it would increase the price considerably. I have an old Auralic Aries V1 with upgraded power supply sitting in a box somewhere. They SQ of that was very similar to Audrivana (i.e. very good) but the software and app was awful and became frustrating to use, hence now in a box
