Me personally, I own simple trucks. Big Cam Cummins. Shiny 290. E7 Mack. V8 Detroit. Stuff like that. I help my friend out who has 379 EXT hood Pete’s with c15 cats and 18 speeds. They have PDI stuff, Pittsburg power boxes, Cat trim codes, pdi boxes, switchblade turbos, etc..... and every 150 mile each way trip you may crack a head, blow a head gasket, or lose something in the driveline. I personally baby the hell out of them and watch the gauges like a hawk. Not telling what happens when they drive them. Totally unreliable. But strong AF. I’ve yet to meet a truck that’s stouter out on the road. Even when I’m loaded. Just massive power. So expensive it makes no sense. I keep telling them that maybe they’d be happier with a series 60 14L set at around 600-700hp and 2050 torque. It’s lots of power but not gonna hurt itself. Any stories or advice on the 14L 60 series and how it would play in to the story for them/me? They seem to think Detroit isn’t as good and is harder to work on. I think they are just mesmerized by yellow paint and the name. And heck....I own lots of Cat equipment. Good stuff. But the c15 is only good below 600 Hp.

i will call it bullshit.... cats are stronger and more reliable than ANY detroit. all my friends with 12.7 lost their engines after tuning it....the 14 is no different! you can have a stock c15 600 that will outlive and outpull tuned detroits...STOCK

I done a fresh rebuild and put on a 12.7 manifold with a wast gated turbo and then had the ecm tuned to 600. But I took off all the egr stuff off like cooler and cross over pipe so it looks just like a 12.7 under the hood

Just have to go into EMC, the 14 is able to pull 2700 foot pounds off the flywheel when beefed to 800 horse

60 series is my favorite Engine to work on and play with and it makes me sad that my fire department doesn’t have any but we have the 8v92ta and 6v92ta but we did up til 2017 have a Small cam 855 NTF365 with an Eaton 5 speed T906B

I deleted my 14 litter and looking into turbos I came across the borgwarner k31 turbo, and is the most recommended for stock, seems like a great option for it, if you want more power they have other turbos but you would need injectors and maybe camshaft etc to make it work.

Chance Coil so let me ask you this... I currently have 12.7 and I am leaning very hard towards the 14l for a replacement. How hard is it to delete the EGR? What is the process ? Delete them flash? I am going to having a shop rebuild but I think they will shy away from deleting it themselves because of legal issues...

@@vnkable, 14L is a savage but the 12.7 is no slouch if built right. I have the PDI turbo and manifold, crank damper and a tune by Diesel Freak. I'm pushing 650/2050, with injectors and cam, I think 750 is possible.
