I was there !! A 13 year old Welsh kid watching my favourite International team beat the English . What a day ! Back to Stirling , where my Uncle and Aunt held a house party . It was absolute mayhem that night. Great memories , great people , a great and beautiful country. Now I'm 55 , and have been back many times with my wife and sons who love Scotland the country and people as much as me.

I was 8 years old and that was the day I fell in love with the Sottish national side. I've had many days to bitterly regret that since, but I wouldn't change a thing :-)

I hitch-hiked from the south of France (where I was teaching) all the way home to see this game (and Bayern Munich v St Etienne in the European Cup Final a few days earlier). And then I hitched it back. Worth every wait and every discomfort, beating the English was the pinnacle back then!

I was there ! I was 11 years old high up on that old KIng's Park end terracing. Atmosphere was brilliant. 85,000 crowd still the biggest I have been in at any football match. Had a great view of King Kenny;s winner put through through Clemence's legs.

Love the camera shots from behind the goal in the first half. Hampden looks HUGE and packed to the rafters. Glorious days of proper football!

It wasn't packed. There had been 136.000 in it in 1970. Amazing that half of it was uncovered but there was still a ln amazing atmosphere. Wembley had better acoustics but Hampden really fuckin rumbled at times.

That's how they wore 'em. Terrible 1970s fashion for men. Kipper ties, lapels & shirt collars big enough for a Jumbo jet & platform shoes. That's how I looked. If only I knew then..

those were the days when football was football for real, and stars were stars for real. Back then, players used to play with their hearts, and please if you know football, watch how great their individual skills and how tough they were. Messi or Ronaldo in those days would not even make it to the bench because they would not be good enough to match the skills of any of those 70's giants.

That aberration at Wembley 75 aside, we were pretty much unbeatable from 1974-77. The Argentina World Cup came just a year too late for us.

Virtually every player on the field is two-footed, and all look to engage their opposite man at every opportunity. How British football has deteriorated.

Both England and Scotland did not qualify for Euro 1976 which meant that both countries were preparing for qualifying campaigns for the 1978 World Cup with England having their opening match in Helsinki away to Finland a month after this game with 3 friendlies in the USA sandwiched inbetween these 2 games and Scotland in the 1978 World Cup Qualifying would resume their Home International rivalry with Wales and in a repeat of the 1974 qualifying campaign Czechoslovakia

I never realised there was a actual Cup! Tho rarely did Scotland get their hands on it anyway. No doubt its been ditched to some minor league to win it like the great Football Div One trophy passed down to the former Div Two then rechristened Div One, then that Div One was passed down to the former Div Three which was rechristened Div Two then re-rechristened Div One, of course the Div Two then Div One now Championship, rumour has it to be Premier League Two. What bollocks! So is the original Div One Trophy now at the 3rd tier Div One circa 2019? Please lets just have it the old 1,2,3,4 & maybe 5 too.

You are talking about the late Brian Moore (one of the greatest football commentators of his time) and the legendary Jack Charlton (1966 World Cup winning footballer with England) who are both, of course, English. Naturally, although they are supposed to be impartial, they would undoubtedly like to see their own country win. It's only natural. If you asked a Scotsman who they would want to win, he would always back Scotland - even more so if it means winning against England. If you asked any Brazilian commentator who they would like to see win at football, they would obviously support Brazil. If you asked an Italian, thy would back Italy. If you asked a Spaniard, they would always follow their own nation: Spain. Ask an Argentine, and they would always back Argentina. And so forth and so forth. What do you expect the commentators to do when their own country scores a goal? Start crying their eyes out? No. You support your country. Win or lose. 👍😁
