I have driven through the Greensboro area on I-85, Business I-85, I-40, US 29, and I-73. And honestly, Greensboro's road system is one of the most interesting stretches of road I've ever been on in my life.

Jim, if you ever get around to Columbia, SC, SC DOT is doing a great job completing the rehabilitation of I-20 in Northeast Richland County, and is currently starting expansion on I-26 immediately south of Columbia.

Thanks, I don't know about backups, I only went through here once a year at best and never got caught in one but I imagine it was bad or this road would not have been built.

the backups weren't bad, but there are heavy accidents (especially the portion between the former 40/85 split and the US 29 exit) before the bypass was built at the old route (which FreewayJim showed in the opening).

What was the logic of taking I-40 off the new Greensboro southern bypass? One day it uses it, the next day it's put back on its old "through town" route.

A couple of reasons: 1. most traffic uses the through town route, which is faster than the bypass (3-5 miles difference) 2. if I-40 through town became a business route (which it was for a while), it would lose federal funding which means any future widening or road work will be nixed. 3. complaints from local residents about the confusion between I-40 and a former business 40 through town.

By the way, I noticed that you listed an external hard drive in the credits. Do you shoot directly to that when you're filming?

Oh no, my new camera shoots to SD cards, I have two 64GB Cards and it has 32 GB internal memory which I have yet to max out in a single day, so I just dump everything from the day's shoot on a portable drive when we're in for the night while on the road then transfer it to the 4TB drive seen in the credits when I get home.

wow, I enjoy it when you film the east coast. it really shows how different the scenery is when you go from one coast to the other. and you've been up here for almost 8 years, is there any road/stretch of highway that you haven't recorded yet? or is there a road /hwy that you would want to explore/record.

Thanks Kitty, yes there are still quite a few things I have not recorded that are probably worth recording, I got to a few of them on this trip, some were planned but weather got in the way, and some are re-shoots with the new equipment but as much as I loved heading out west last year I always enjoy the east coast, which is where I'm from (NH).

I know this stretch very well from my travels between GA and VA. I don't like the route numbering at all though, with Green 85 going through the city. Just call that stretch 85 once again, renumber the loop as 840 all the way around, and be done with it.
