I think second hand has to be the way to go. You could get a bigger tractor second hand, it won't matter too much if it is too big around the farm as you will still have your MXU for the home farm jobs, but you will have the bigger tractor to do the road and field work.

I must admit MR P when I was given a more comfortable tractor my production went up and was not so tired at end of the day ,so I understand the comfort bit but like someone else has said if your skid broke down? so maybe good second hand is the answer ,only problem is finding one , great stuff Mr P always enjoy the vids 😊

I believe your most practical and affordable solution is to keep your existing tractor, and get a good second hand unit. You said the 125 has a tweaked version of your present tractor. There is an old saying with engines, that if you create more power at the top (by using a bigger turbo to get a higher percentage fill of the cylinder, compared to a naturally aspirated engine) you need to beef up the bottom end (con rods, little and big ends and crankshaft). If your engine had enough metal in it to absorb those stresses created by uprating, then all good. If not as the old song goes:- " There may be trouble ahead" At the end of the day you said you need a more comfortable tractor for road work, and I'm sure a dealer watching your channel will come up with a suitable option. If they are worth their salt , your phone shouldn't stop ringing.

If I could find an mxu with those hours and that condition id be a happy man. They are the last of the great tractors in my opinion. Well built, simple and reliable. I wouldn't even consider changing it. That mxu will still be going in 20 years time. I appreciate that you are thinking of your back. Buy a new seat.

As a matter of interest, i wonder if your front linkage would fit the t5? The engine is the same, and i would imagine the front axle and tombstone is exactly the same. Bring a tape measure the next time you are passing the New Holland dealers :) Or contact Lynx engineering, they should be able to tell you, assuming your linkage is a Zuidberg.

You had a point when you spoke about bigger engine in my opinion manufacturers are pushing too much power out of smaller cubic capacity engines which I think puts a lot more pressure on components 🤔 with an adjustment on the timing and a tweak of the fuel pump on the MXU probably get 125hp no problems 👍

You have made a lot of good points and 70k is a lot to spend on a tractor. I was surprised to see the case 125 maximum wasn't that dissimilar to your case 100. I would have assumed the 125 would have a lot more modern stuff on it. Compared to the Newholland t5 and 7 and the massieferguson you tested the 125 seems quite dated for a new tractor.

@Farmer P. Thank you Ian for your very honest assessment of that vehicle; and the others you have tested as well, I`m not a member of the farming community but you have my sympathy`s for the agonising decision you now have to make about a replacement, if any, there is nothing worse than operating an uncomfortable piece of kit. If I recall correctly you were sort-of impressed with the Fergie which would have come with a front loader as part of the deal although there were some bits you didn`t like about it, Chandlers were offering a reasonable deal I seem to recall. I notice from other comments that some suggest looking at second-hand or nearly new as a more economical and viable option and I don`t envy you in making that decision at all. I can`t wait to hear or see what you decide.

Maybe you could look for a good secondhand Case IH Maxxum/ New Holland between 10 to 15 years old before AdBlue came in. Keep your MXU and maybe transfer the front linkage to the secondhand New Holland/Maxxum you get and put a Front loader with SoftDrive (suspension) on the MXU. I think it would smoothan the ride on the road. Maybe there is a neighbour around you with a New Holland TSA/T6000 or Case IH similar age as your with a Front loader. If yes I would try it out. The drawback going secondhand would be the financing and Warranty. Going new you get a better interest-rate and warranty between 3-5 years depending on the brand

They are all nice tractors, they will all hold their money well. A 120bhp T5 with a powershift box(similar to the new case) will be a good bit cheaper, but a smaller engine 3.4 fpt. Everything has got really expensive. Is it 70 plus VAT. The T5 dynamic command and the massey are a nice size tractor, plenty of power. The T5 probably has a nicer gearbox, but the massey is a nice well put together tractor, and the dynashift gearbox is well established. kubota look a nice tractor. Valtra which is the same brand as massey has got a lot of traction in Ireland

I agree with what you're saying there Ian, yours plus £50k isn't worth it for what extra you'd get. You'd be better of keeping yours, and spending a few K having a new set of more modern/compliant tyres fitted, and a day spent with a valeter detailer to get her looking like new again inside and out! The other, smaller tractors from the other brands seem like a better bet, especially with the versatility of having a loader as well - if the figures are much more favorable on those, then they'd be a much better decision.

So to sum up, you can't justify a new tractor but with your hard work making videos if YT helps pay for it then why not have something you will enjoy and out a smile on your face. The T5 seems.the best even tho I'm a Massey man. As for the Case and needing bigger kit have you gone stark raving bonkers lol Sensible hat says put the money into the farm or infrastructure, even buy more land as that will see your money grow. But end of day do you want a new toy that normally you would never afford but for YT because there is nothing wrong with that so no need to try and justify it just say why not because you only live once!

Once you have experienced the convenience of a CVT, you are convinced. However, a CVT requires quite a bit of power, especially in the utility tractors. A Vestrum tractor with 130 hp and CVT feels like a powershift with 110 hp. A 200 hp CVT feels the same as a 200 hp powershift.

My opinion on the Case Maxxum 125 is it’s a great tractor if you had 100-150 acres minimum than it would be great. But, all your acres are spread out over various areas. The thing is with Massey Ferguson numbers you told us is the zero percent financing is your paying only for the tractor and not paying a bank or a middle man money for there services. If you bought used you wouldn’t get 0% financing and the vehicle would probably have Zero warranty left on it. I’ll never buy used vehicles because I never know how the vehicle was taken care of by the previous owner(s). I wish when I bought my truck I could’ve got a great deal like that. I would never upgrade your Case Maxxum MXU with a software upgrade unless it was done by Case because 3rd party people can’t warranty what they did and it’s all on you. Well done review and good luck on your search. What ever you do is up to you not us viewers. Just keep putting up the videos when you can and rock on.

Which Tractor comes in at the most competitive price, the MF5s seemed to be the most suited before the Case arrived, and for your own use, i see a 2021 MF5s and loader with 1219hrs on Autotrader for £78k plus vat, so it could possibly be a worthwhile investment based on that. If you consider £50k over next 5 years and youll likely have an asset worth £50k so its cost you £20k, or you spend 10k doing stuff to make the mxu more suitable, cab suspension, loader, etc, plus 5k on maintenance and in 5 years time its only worth 15k. So its cost you £20k So you're not actually losing any money by getting the new tractor vs keeping the old one. Then you factor in other benefits such as, a new tractor will be more suitable for Abbi to drive and maybe the rest of the girls or their partners, and if you have the opportunity to obtain a good deal at the moment, and can make it work finance ways, id see it as a wise investment for the long term future of the farm. Enabling you to hand over the reigns knowing that Abbi or whoever is going to have good reliable equipment they can use easily. A cheap baler, mower and rake set up and theres no reason why you couldn't add a bit of contracting as well as doing your own, so saving outgoings and making it work for other stuff, even if it meant employing someone part time to do the hours, your aim is to have the tractor earn towards its purchase cost. Or the family could be driving it if its easier, so keeping the money inside the farm to go towards other projects. Apologies for rambling on, be interesting to see what the new addition to the decision list will be lol

I have to say that I think (for what that is worth - very little in these circumstances!!) that this is the correct decision. Why? I do not think in these uncertain and rocky times ahead that it is a wise idea to be adding a hefty load of extra overhead charge to the farm accounts. If you are serious about needing a slightly bigger tractor the I would be thinking good but older second hand machine / using a contractor more for these specialist tasks / hire such equipment as needed OR even look into a much better quality seat for your own tractor. From what I observe the most critical machine in your business is the skid steer. Consider the number of engine hours it builds up in a year - it seems to be called upon for a wide variety of tasks multiple times each and pretty well every day. The impact of it going "Out of Service" especially for any length of time would quickly build up. Perhaps this machine would be a better candidate for replacement capital funds. Afterall talk about giving you a rough ride while using it, it seems to me to be much much worse than any tractor!!

as with the trials on the T5 and massey i think its a no brainer for getting one with a loader. if there had been one on teh case and you could have done a like for like comparison you would probably notice that the loader might not have been as easy to use due to the size of the bonnet. yes you could get a loader too for your case but you would still have the issue of the ride (probably worse). could you get a decent 2nd unit with 40k box, soft ride and loader for your price range while keeping the old one? you will probably notice that if you went with the massey or T5 you would be doing more hours on the tractor solely down to the loader making it more usable. chances are you would probably use it more than the skid steer. so while you are probably doing about 200hrs on the case now you could be doing 350-400 or more on a loader tractor, just another thing to take into your thinking.

Hi if you don't buy a new tractor now you probably never will. The price is only going to keep going up. The more hours you put on your old one the less your going to get for it. Your not getting any younger and the old tractor is just going to bother you more as you age. I bought a new John Deere tractor 12 years ago and paid 17000 for it the same tractor today is over 35000 to buy. I am going to retire in a month and I could never afford to buy that tractor now. If your friend gives up farming as he will sooner or later as he is getting up in age you will kick yourself for not having what you need to till your land. Custom work prices are just going to keep going up each year. Just my thoughts but it's not me spending the money I know. In 10 years your old tractor will not be worth much but if you bought a new one you could sell it and still get a pretty good price for it.

It's alot of money for a tractor that is obviously very dated if it has same cab as ur mxu. Think case need to do some work to bring that cab upto date to warrant that price tag
