In this Power BI tutorial, we will explore a new topic on how to append different data sources in Power BI. Whether it's SQL, Oracle, Big Data, Hadoop, or any other data source, you can learn the process of appending data sources using a simple example of appending an Excel file with a CSV file in Power BI.
To begin, we will take a look at a folder named "Monthly Sales File" containing two files - April and March. These files consist of the same columns: date, client, and sales. With a total of 10 records, each file represents a different month. Our goal is to append these records and create a consolidated dataset.
To follow along, you can open Power BI and click on "Get Data" to import the Excel file. Select the April 2020 file and click on the "Load" button. Similarly, import the CSV file from March 2020. Once both files are loaded, we can proceed to append them using Power Query.
On the left-hand side of the Power Query window, under "Transform Data," you will find the loaded queries. Click on "Append Queries as New" and select the April file as the top query and the March file as the bottom query. This will create a new appended query with the combined data.
After appending the data, you will see that the columns from both files are properly merged. At this point, you can disable the load for the original tables and enable the load for the appended query. Finally, click on "Close and Apply" to view the output in the Power View.
In conclusion, this tutorial has provided a step-by-step guide on how to append different data sources in Power BI. By following these instructions, you can consolidate and analyze data from diverse sources within Power BI.
