There’s many (MANY) great brutal horror films you can say are inspired by Lovecraft. Everything from Ridley Scott’s Alien to John Carpenter’s The Thing. Yeah, admittedly I was upset that “In The Mouth Of Madness” wasn’t mentioned. That’s a great film that didn’t get the critical acclaim it deserved when it came out. @impofstpete7273 жыл бұрын
Some of these are more body horror than cosmic. Event Horizon could have been on the list easily. The real aspect that makes cosmic horror is that ultimately you cannot overcome the threat. You endure it at best, succumb to it at worst. The Mist is an excellent example because it shows how fear of the unknown can affect people. How it brings out their madness. Then when the threat becomes tangible we know that it's too dangerous to stay in one spot but running is also life threatening. Options start evaporating quickly. That's probably why Cthulu doesn't translate well on film. You can't win and the chance of a happy ending is gone.
