Having "learned" how to pronounce Greek in seminary, Bryce, I hope you'll accept the same advice I was given when I started visiting Greece: "Learn how to pronounce our words." Our Greek alphabet goes, "Alpha, Beta, Gamma," etc; theirs goes "Alfa, Vita, Yamma," etc. So Dionysus, for instance, would be pronounced "Thioneesis." Of course most Greeks speak English, but this will get you by a whole lot better in supermarkets and tabernas (tavernas). And help Greeks understand you when you mention people like "PITHaGORos."
