Right now, in my opinion, this is the best video on the internet of how to build a Raku kiln

Hands down, this is the best single Raku video I have seen. You cover darn near everything. If you had alcohol reduction you would have cover it all. How is this holding up with the lid resting on the firebatting?
@deMibPottery2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot :-) It is actually working quite well. The 5 cm wide insulation is plente to hold the lid in place

So grateful you are fluent in English. Thank you for sharing so generously. The word we use for the ‘pot tubes’ is Kiln Prop. I have a question about trying to adapt what I have into a raku kiln which is an old commercial/industrial lifting side dishwasher. I would love to send to you my pictures and drawings for comment. Not sure if it is better suited to Raku or wood fire/soda adaptation. Truly grateful for your videos. With best wishes, Jasper (subscriber) PS I also loved your. Nabertherm kiln loading: I bought a 45R as a result for my small firings and test firings. Thank you.

Thank you for showing all the details of the manufacture, I am sure most people will be able to adapt the process to their own situation and resources. You had a good result with the 'horse hair' pot, well done! I look forward to seeing more firings with these kilns. All the best for the New Year.

Hi Mikkel, after watching your video i am very motivated to construct a raku kiln for my wife. Could you please tell me the specifics of the gas burner you are using and recommend?
@deMibPottery Жыл бұрын
Thanks :-) The burner I use is from Rakuvaria, but you can also use a cheap weed burner - they just consume a bit more gas and a more noisy. www.rakuvaria.com/en/raku-materials/raku-materials/burner-3-metre-hose-pressure-control-volve-reducing-screw There are also some very interesting, powerfull and cheap burners available from Devils Forge, that I haven't tested yet but looks promising: devil-forge.com/27-gas-burners

At least 12-15 fires - depending on temperature and schedule

Vh. Tine
@deMibPottery3 жыл бұрын

Where do you put thermometer? Have you made a hole for this before applying the foam or after?

Yes, I have drilled a hole in the upper third of the oil drum for this

Kiln is a good design but needs a insulating firebrick floor and burner port
@deMibPottery3 жыл бұрын
It works really well for me and its a design used by many others with same good results :-)
@xeroart38523 жыл бұрын
@@deMibPottery the design is very good. A insulating fire brick floor will stop heat loss through the floor. Set burner port at 45 degree angle so flame will spin upward inside for better even distribution of heat. These changes will increase efficiency = better firing / less propane usage.
@xeroart38523 жыл бұрын
@@deMibPottery I will be building this kiln for my brother this summer. I will also have a second flat lid for firing less or smaller pieces. Thank you great video
@deMibPottery3 жыл бұрын
I actually did a lot of tests and measures, going over various designs - and now you can't really see the inside, but the way I deflect the flame actually makes it VERY efficient. I can fire 10-18 times on a single 11 kg bottle!

Could I use a Raku Kiln to fire regulaR ceramics?
@deMibPottery2 жыл бұрын
You can bisque fire in a raku kiln but I never did it. High fire glazes probably not as they require more heat and different schedules than what you can get from a raku kiln.
@Achbar2 жыл бұрын
@@deMibPottery So, if i use a Low fire Glaze, this could work maybe?
@deMibPottery2 жыл бұрын
Maybe. But it also have to fit the schedule of a raku kiln. It cools faster

I think it’s a good idea to put all the lids on the acid containers not just the spray bottle , I was waiting for you to knock the bottle over , that would of not been a good day for you.
