I've been prepping for over 7 years now. My S.H.T.F. happened for me in 2020. I had a stroke, became disabled lost my job, and had to wait for ssdi to kick in. My preps allowed me to still eat and other essentials. It literally saved me a lot of worry and stress. Im now restocked up on my preps 🙏🏽

Funny thing is it’s called prepping back 50-60 years ago it was called saving for a rainy day or stocking up for the winter

I’ve got my food, water reservoir, medical, security and alternate energy and cooking methods. I live out in the country on a very defendable piece of land. Precisely. Rainy days are not at all uncommon. Where my mother lives in the Sierra foothills in California there are frequent power outages, and people there deal with that kind of SHTF situation. Road closures during storms are no joke, and it's good to have what you need.

Yes ! saving for a rainy day and stocking up for winter are both something my grandparents and parents did. I just thought it was normal living. I grew up in the north east where snow storms and ice storms were expected. I live here again and don't worry about it because I am ready. I am ready for a lot more now also.

I would say that I have started prepping in earnest over the last 3 years including a garden, canning, back ups for heat and light. I have been alone now for years. I was prepping for quite a long while off and on, one day it came in handy. I was working as a maintenance mechanic in a factory that made body armor for the military, and i was the only mechanic on my shift. Well, one day i came into work with a note from my dr that i have been seeing for a back injury and was also going to pain management. I handed the letter to my supervisor, he read it, looked at me and said "we cannot accommodate these restrictions, go change out of your uniform and go home". Just like that i was out of a job and on my way to disability. My preps, especially food, are what kept me going until the SSDI checks started coming in. Point being, it doesn't have to be a world ending Z-poc where the prepping work becomes useful.

I learned this lesson way back in the 60's. There was a big blizzard that dumped a lot of snow. (Think yards, not feet.) My parents having gone through the Great Depression were able to feed us even when the power was out. Later, my husband and I easily sailed through the Ice Storm of 1998 that hammered northeast America.

Didn't realize that I was a prepper for a long time. I gardened and canned because I did it with my family when I was young. Camping was a fun vacation and church youth group trips. Saving was pounded in for tough times. My personal SHTF was being unemployed in 2009. Not having to buy groceries for 6 months helped. The guns that I've gotten were a hobby that became a little more so. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed as always.

Why prep for nothing to happen? Because its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I live orange county NY, I drove to lake placid NY for the solar eclipse. EVERYTHING I saw regarding the path of totality was telling people to stock up and be prepared. They were warning of everything from traffic to food shortages, to power and cell network outages due to overloading. I packed my campervan as if i was going to the middle of nowhere for at least a week. I went up Saturday, stayed near lake George, Sunday I got to lake placid in the early afternoon and was surprised to see it was crowded but not insanely crowded. Honestly i was expecting something like those old black friday videos where the crowd literally breaks the doors off. Sunday night i stayed in my van in the hannaford supermarket lot and got up 7:00 Monday morning, made myself something to eat, and went to the viewing area. After the eclipse i stayed in the viewing area until the traffic died down and went back to the Hannaford. I went home Tuesday afternoon. It was literally nothing like the news made it out to be (as far as a problems, the eclipse was awe inspiring). The grocery store was well stocked, the gas station had gas, the power stated on, the crowd wasn't even that big (compared to what i was expecting), I could have went up with literally nothing, bought everything as I needed from the Hannaford, and been fine. I didn't even go through half of the food/ water/ extra fuel for the generator that I brought, but I was able to rest easy and enjoy the eclipse knowing that if the town devolved into chaos I could park my van and wait it out. Why do we prep? For peace of mind knowing that we will have the necessary supplies if it goes sideways.

@@hanskloss1331 I think if I was homeless and had not much of anything, then I would keep moving along until I am in some other country or some other area that has some opportunity for me. Unlike trashy homeless people, I would try to live proper in most every way that I can and be willing to do work and of course stay off the drugs. If I was eating out of the trash, I would put the trash can lid back on, and try to make it not too obvious. Prayer likely would have far better results than alcohol or drugs, to solving what often are spiritual problems. Our houses and cars and jobs actually keep us trapped in this has-been Democrat-destroyed country. They just are not very portable. Many of us Americans might have over-invested in our country, and not enough into ourselves and God's leading.

I don’t have a huge stockpile due to lack of finances but I have worked to fill my freezer and pantry with a couple months of food, including a good amount of frozen meat. I’m only 20 and out of nowhere with no history of them I recently had a bad seizure cluster that put me into ICU overnight and left me in the hospital for almost a week and out of work for longer than that. Reasons like this is why I like to keep a decent amount of food at home but this is the first time I’ve ever truly had to fall back on it a little bit. It was definitely an eye opener that anything can happen at any time, no matter how good of health you may think you’re in, and I’m glad that I had it set aside. 1 less thing to stress about when I got back home.

Wise preparation includes a well stocked workshop and knowing how to use it, spare parts, COMMON vehicles (since that makes cannibalizing parts easier), and consumables. Learning to repair and maintain nearly everything you use is easier than it seems and saves piles of money. For example if you do all your own vehicle repairs you don't pay shop labor, get instant service, and can buy then fix vehicles less prepared men would be helpless to work on.

While my preps would be considered fairly lightweight to most, I do it because I have a massive anxiety health condition. Being prepared - even just having all the tools I need in the car in case something happens - relieve that anxiety SO MUCH. Learning about how to forage, how to garden, how to handle medical - relieves anxiety. And it's been helpful a few times, living on the edge of a rural area. I feel like a calmer, saner person when something DOES happen by taking just a few steps to be ready ahead of time.

Firearms is a big problem in europe, very difficult to have that. But other things are legal, like (cross)bows, small and big knives, airguns, things like that. But my biggest problem is practice, because of my illness I can't go out that easy for camping. But at home I practice with my tools whathever I can. The hardest part of prepping, in my experience, is sustaining a given status of food stores etc. I get it built up, then life happens and things get consumed and I have to build it back up again. Oh well, I’m doing okay regardless 👍🏻

6:20 What spare tire? Many new cars don't come with a spare tire, and don't have a place for a spare tire. The sales staff don't mention that fact, so ask.

Everyone needs to google how much food you need to survive a 6 month grid down situation. Its something like 390lbs of stuff PER PERSON! Of course that varies per person and by diet but its a staggering amount of stuff for 6 months. Ive got 15 gal of rice and beans which weigh in at about 100lbs add to that all the pasta and canned food and freeze dried food by the weights I am severely lacking but Im out of space. Like I have almost no dairy (i.e. powdered milk) or eggs. Even If I got some I have nowhere to put them. Its insane the amount of food you need.

I have the means to live for about a month + if SHTF after that for a typical situation, Natural disaster, EMP I should be able to travel by road to a non-impacted area. And as the years go on at 53 if SHTF does not come until 10 - 15 - 20 years down the road MY old ass would not bet "BUGGING OUT anywhere.

I was a "nutty ol' mom" til Snowmageddon found me alone in Waco cold and powerless but with my Dollar Tree solar lights over my gas stove 🙌 with a pot of chicken stewing from the freezer. I did have to eat it and dumplings for several days straight but had constant instant coffee and entertainment from my weather band/AM/FM radio and my kids who admitted they just had ketchup packets and crackers at their place 😅

Can you reach it if the roads are jammed? Does it have water? Big enough to plant some food crops or hunt? Is it far enough off the beaten track so it is unlikely to be targeted bt marauders? Lots of questions and considerations.

started prepping during Y2K and felt like a fool til the following summer when I had to use some of those very same items during the destruction of my home in a storm. Things always happen big or small and I can't figure out why a person would place so much fath in big brother government when the second natural desasster that always happens after a storm is FEMA and their cluster. Bending it over is not a way to live.

Call me arrogant or whatever but I personally against Consumerism. I’m living my life minimalism and declutter everything. All I need for my SHTF is listen to all you guys talking and understand critical elements. Everyday I walk out the house with a daypack with another set of clothes, I almost live double lifestyles one for working man and one for homeless man 😂 All I have on me are just a handheld walkie talkie with long range antenna and a lot of food in the bag, that’s all. Hear something wrong?, move to somewhere else, never stay back and fight or keep supplies. 😂

I bought a above ground pool yesterday and it will be delivered tomorrow. I have had pools my almost my entire life. We bought a home in a different State and did not want a pool. IWe bought this one for the grandkids that visit and for extra water. Can you tell me how we could utilize the pool water for drinking for emergency. Worried about the chemicals.
@richardelliott9511
@richardelliott9511 Ай бұрын
A retired pool service tech here, you can't render pool water truely safe to drink without an expensive reverse osmosis filtering set up or an energy hungry distillation plant. However, with minimal filtering, you can use it for all of your other water needs, like washing and flushing, which would greatly reduce your requirement for drinkable water. That might be satisfied with a shallow well or rain catchment systems.

In Australia they do salt water pools instead of chlorine, check that out they are way nicer to swim in and may work for your need.

I want to invest in a SHTF van. It would be a get out dodge vehicle/second home away from home that can go off road. Anyone else feel this would be a good prep? Ideally We would store it in a area guarded from radiation.
