Another tip is when you format your new SD card, don't use the built in format option in game mode. Manually format your SD card in desktop mode using the included KDE Partition Manager in the start menu. This will increase the SD downloading speed significantly for most users.

I like the updated JSAUX dock myself. But the most important add-on for the Steam Deck is definitely a memory card. Regarding the SD cards: A2 class cards have faster random read speeds, so if you're installing larger games to the card that's what you want to go for. Also have a look at the price per GB: you can get the Sandisk ones in capacities up to 1 TB, but it's actually cheaper to buy multiple lower capacity cards totalling that capacity. Since you can hot-swap the cards (that means switching them out while the device is on), that might be the better option.
@MainCave2 жыл бұрын

I work from home and my employer provided me with a Dell laptop, a couple monitors, and a docking station with a USB-C connector. That same Dell docking station from work also works perfectly with the Steam deck. I just plug my Steam deck in instead, and wham. Full desktop PC mode, multi-monitor setup, keyboard and mouse. From there I can use flash drives to transfer ROMs from my personal PC to the Steak deck to play via Emudeck, or even just straight up use it as a PC if I want to do some lightweight tasks and don't feel like using my regular PC with that space heater of a GPU (3090 TI).

I noticed that to play American McGee's Alice you need to have access to an alt+enter keys to access the menu (and play the game) there's probably other older titles with that same problem so a travel keyboard is a must
@IcoKirov2 жыл бұрын
Just a note on the sd cards. if you need it for regular modern games, then you need A2 card as they are faster and the deck can utilise their speed. A3 are even faster, but the reader on the deck can't utilise them, and will treat them as A2 cards. so if you plan on adding big, heavy to load games, A2 is the way to go. A3 are more expensive, for basically nothing (other than future-proofing - like if you plan on using that card for other devices that can utilise A3 cards) if you plan on putting small indie games and/or roms and such, speed is not *that* important, so you can go for the cheaper A1 as on the video. i would personally don't go bellow A1, unless i use them for low end emulation - 8 and 16 bit. for them even older class 10 card (no A grading) would be ok, maybe even lower grading, but i mean, you can get like a 4-8 GB card and you can store ALL of those games on it. so no point in buying a big one, just use one you have from old phones.

I have noticed that 128 and 256 GB cards are more often on sale than larger ones, so it's cheaper to buy 4-5 256 GB cards than 1T card. And there are sd card holders for 5-10€ on amazon that can hold up to 24 cards, so just a thought...
@IcoKirov2 жыл бұрын
@@ajuric4606 1tb cards are usually not price effective. Often 2 512gb are cheaper as well. And if we include sales yeah I guess the lower ones are even better price/capacity. But also the lower you get the harder to optimize the capacity properly, I mean more unused space overall will be left when you combine all of them. Not that this is a big issue
@ajuric46062 жыл бұрын
@@IcoKirov I agree, not worth to go too low. In my opinion, going for multiple 256 cards for some bigger games would let you keep them organized per card, rpg games on one, strategy on other, simulations on third and so on. Since deck utilizes speed of SD cards so well, no real need to have everything installed on it all the time. Plus organizing games in any way kind of helped me to organize other things in my life.
@IcoKirov2 жыл бұрын
@@ajuric4606 yeah, I agree. Although I myself still don't have any cards for the deck. I have the 512gb version and I have it half filled. I did. It was a glossy one so no good for the 512. I’d need an antiglare one but the screen is so good on the 512 I’m leaving it

I just got a decent messenger bag made to hold a 17" laptop, including a padded compartment. It has enough room for my Deck in its case (the 512 GB version's special case), my portable 15" gaming monitor, 60% keyboard, wireless mouse, headset (that folds down pretty nicely), USB hub and all the cables I'd need to set everything up. Carries nicely, protects everything, and it's not obvious that I'm an aging nerd with a bunch of portable gaming shit on me.

Is there any way to apply skins to the Steam Deck without a hair dryer?
@MainCave2 жыл бұрын
You need it if you want to wrap it round the curved edges.

hahaha made me chuckle as you said, you put the skin on to make it stand out as you held it infront of your black and white, PS5, Xbox Series S, and OLED Switch buahahaha, thank you for that

Do those tumbstick caps nullify the capacitive top of the thumbsticks or can you still use that?

Might I suggest the galaxy buds live for your travel earbuds? They work well for Bluetooth and don't have lag like the cheap Bluetooth earbuds normally do. They are a bit pricey tho but they are all I use for everything since they also have noise canceling and 3d audio
@niklasfritzell64652 жыл бұрын
I use a pair of sony wh 1000 x3 (aptx) and the lag is exeptionally low when using bluetooth on steam deck. Even lower than on my regular rig.

Check out the JSAUX V2 dock. I would love to know how it compares to the anker dock. Those are the two I'm looking at.

I will do at some point, but there’s a bit of a delay on shipping them. Hope to get one soon.

My Steam Deck 512 GB was just delivered on Thursday, so I'm still shopping around for my first accessory. JSAUX dock model HB0604 sold out before I could order one, does another brand have an M.2 slot and charging but maybe not the built-in stand? Edit: just spotted the Selore&S-Global brand, are they good and are there others I should consider?
@MainCave2 жыл бұрын
I personally can’t say good or bad of any dock that has m.2 as I haven’t got round to testing any yet. I am hopefully going to get the new one as I have made a video on the HB0603. Maybe add an m.2 drive to that, depending on speeds.
@christopherschmeltz33332 жыл бұрын
@@MainCave Just the usually reputable brands that have M.2 would be fine, I would like to save some research time by being pointed towards other reviewers that have covered them.

Note When you plug in the HDMI Cable The Steam Deck Screen goes black, displaying the picture on your TV & Monitor This is good, as prevents screen burn in for your Steam Deck screen I am relieved to see this - as screen burn in is always a concern of mine
