The first verse. GOD is telling us about him self and and where the words where before he spoke them. He spoke them for his mind. Several items brother: These verses are much more powerful when read in Hebrew and exegesis is derived directly from it. All the hidden meanings are brought forth which in translations only hovers over it. God stated His most exalted attribute- alpha and omega. Which is the untranslatable word in the book of Genesis. When His hand is directly upon a creation, destruction, blessing or curse, the “objective” annotation is made in Hebrew which is not seen in translations. Would have also love you to define the word “creation” in verse two - which in Hebrew is the actionable word to “Bara” only used by God bringing something out of nothingness. Also In verse 2, all components and recipes for ALL he wants to form has been brought forth, it’s just requires time for it to come together. That’s why in the sequential verses, all God did was call forth whatever he wanted form. 😊 I enjoy your videos. Much love brother in Christ and peace be with you.

Dear I love your playlist of videos of Genesis, but it’s mostly because they support video mini mode. While I get that a pastor might love the idea of a person sitting down to watch a bible study only, the difference this play style makes, is me having to stay on the KZbin app only vs being able to access other apps fully ( split screen is not good enough lol) and still have your study play. This difference accumulates to HOURS ( literally!!) hours of me being able to tune in to your study. It means I can do whatever else is needful in the day, set alarms, check maps, go thru email, edit content, and do so with the study being uninterrupted.

Hey Jason, saw this video - great analogies drawn which I agree with. One disagreement - I don't see how you separate vs2 from the six days of creation. While I agree this describes the initial conditions of the earth, I don't see that you can separate it from the six days. The formless void is still referred to as 'the earth' which was created in the beginning and started from a formless void on day one and continued to completion in stages till day six. God bless.

Just curious…where does it say God brings structure out of chaos and order out of disorder? There was water and darkness and the Spirit of God was over the water, it was the beginning of His perfect creation, how is chaos and disorder inferred?

@@nancypearce3170 as always, great question Nancy. The earth is in a disordered state, by very nature of God needing to act upon it to make it habitable. The Hebrew concept of “formless and void” speaks of an unformed substance, something lacking intended order and structure which God assigns. I will try and find some specific Old Testament scripture that uses similar language of structuring and ordering 👍🏼

I would agree that chaos might be a read-in to the scripture. I would suggest that it all hinges on ‘formless’ and ‘void’ as you point out, but a little differently. The earth was ‘formless’ so in the first 3 days God gave it form by separating the light from the darkness, the waters above from the waters below and then land from these waters. The earth was no longer ‘formless’. In the next three days, in the exact same order, God populated these ‘forms’ by giving the light and darkness the sun and the stars, the birds to the dome above and fish to the waters below and land its vegetation and inhabitants. These ‘forms’ are no longer ‘void’ or ‘empty’. I believe the beginning of Genesis is written truth and a literary explanation of what God did, which I would offer is the point of the creation story. It sets up the Hebrew work week. That may sound like a weak framework when talking about the beginning of life as we know it- but I believe it’s the way the Holy Spirit inspired Moses to record the account. I don’t believe the Holy Spirit is giving us a chronological history of events- but wants to tell us God created this incredible world and gave it to man….

I had just started reading through the Bible 1/2/25 reading the waters in verse 1:2 ESV confused the heck out of me as I had never seen it as there were waters before the formed earth. As if there were waters before the universe. What is the waters? Holy spirit ish?it took me on a several hour rabbit hole going through Spergen and several other commentaries not finding anyone having a study still praying about the first paragraph of the Bible 😅

I think the creation story is about God making himself known. The darkness is ignorance of him. Preaching began by the word, and those who believed were enlightened thus, they were called light. They were separated from the ones that refused to believe. Did Satan and his angels already go rouge, and is this a take back by God or rather a buy back. Since Christ was slain from the foundation of the earth. Rev. 13:8. Rev.19:6 calls waters peoples, nations, tongues, and multitudes. I enjoy your teachings.

It’s ok Jason, God planned it that way in Daniel 12:4 KJV, He had Daniel to shut the book and put a seal on it, so in the last days, he would send Christ down to break the seal, so all of us could learn all his Truth, fulfilling John 8:32 KJV- ye shall know the Truth and the “Truth” shall make you free. The Spirit of Truth will guide us in all Truth, with the King of Kings Bible- Rev. 14:6 KJV- Angel flying across the Heaven with the “Everlasting Gospel”.

Great video! It popped up at the right time as I have been thinking a lot about Genesis 1 and the first few chapters. But Genesis 1 specifically. There is sooooo much symbolism behind it - Earth was formless, void & empty for the first 3 days of creation. Without life. The on the 4th day...the SUN was created or the Sun rose to give light to the world. Or...the SON rose. Jesus is the Son. Egyptians worshipped false pagan gods like RA....the Sun God. Jesus is from the LINE of David. The TRIBE of JUDAH. Judah was the 4th son. Lions are associated with Judah. Jesus is quite literally THE LION KING! - Plus with Genesis 1...I made a video awhile back about measuring "time". If the actual SUN didn't come into existence on the 4th day...and it says in Genesis 1:14 - "and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years'". Then how do we know how many years passed on the first 3 "days" of creation without the Sun. Maybe that's why the fossils buried from the flood are dated by the rocks around them because the "rocks" were created first in Genesis. Like the Earth was one giant rock that was formless, empty and void. "TIME" is measured by the changes of matter...so without the SUN, you can't measure days, months, years, etc. *2 Peter 3:8* - "With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. So the first 3 "days" of creation could have been really long periods of "time" because there was NO Sun yet. It states that in scripture of course. - So the light the was created in the beginning that was "good". Ever wonder why scripture doesn't say "and the darkness was bad"..? If the Bible is written from an observer's perspective (it is right?)...because Genesis was written by Moses from God. Then God is trying to show us something through what he told Moses (maybe why Satan also wanted Moses body mentioned in Jude right?. & I think it has something to do with Satan. Satan = Darkness. He was also called "morning star" in scripture. He fell from heaven as Jesus said in Luke. He was created as a "guardian cherub"...as I think he was created to guard us humans...and he didn't like that we got a whole world to rule over..when he didn't. And it's written multiple times in the OT like Ezekiel 28 (what satan originally looked like)...Isaiah 14:12-14 refers to his Fall as well. Even Job 1...Satan comes back and saying he was like "go forth over the Earth." Even in Romans 9:22 you have Paul saying - "Vessels "prepared" for destruction". Well...to be "prepared" is "past tense"....so it's a reference to "time" on this Earth by Paul & from his "observer" perspective on Earth as well. - Even the "Holy Spirit" was hovering over the waters is like saying God was baptizing all the water which we would use eventually for our own baptisms. Or the water he'd use to baptize the Earth with Noah's flood. Jesus is the water we drink to become a bubbling spring with us. We were created from the "dirt" that was originally formless, empty and void. Why we need to be "baptized" with the water or Jesus...or to be reborn through Christ (our Messiah or "first born" brother) to be sanctified or cleansed before God. Exactly how SATAN is not!!! It's like God is showing us in Genesis the "beginning" and of course Revelation "the end"...of a giant redemption story of Jesus over Satan. "Separated the light FROM the darkness." And it was PRIDE that cost Satan his place in the heavens, why Pagan gods were always worshipped, why Tower of Babel was torn down, why Jesus needed to come 4000 years after creation (or the 4th day). Which makes 2024 on the cusp of the end of the 6th day going into the "7th day" or 6000 years after creation into..The Millenial Kingdom. Ok. That's it for now. Hope this helps! 😂🙏

He doesn't need any raw material. Whatever exists in Genesis 1, at one point didn't exist. God spoke non-existence into being. But, the narrative simply opens with the world in that form to highlight specific qualities of God's creative power

The expression you said about the day followed by night being 24 hour @ 13:55 is an earth centric view .The Bible DOES NOT say 24 hours...we as humans tend to put our own dimension into this. THE BIBLE DOES NOT SAY 24 hours. is the first day. There was no mentioned of a completed rotational earth day yet on "day 1" simply ............evening and morning ..................the first day. i,e the beginning of darkness followed by the beginning of light..........why is it necessary to add that this represents 24 hours? eg at the north pole day and night aren't 24 hours but months..................

I can agree to an extent. It doesn't say the evening and morning wasn't a 24 hour period, and it doesn't say it was. We, humans work with 24-hour periods. God is not restricted to that, but it would make total sense if He was using that. Do I think each day took God 24 hours to do stuff? No, but I don't believe the narrative is making any direct statements about that at all. The point is, a day is measured by God, in a specific way, and it could've easily been the way we refer to a day (24 hours). We might say that each day officially ended with His last creation for that day, or there was leftover time to kill. I have no idea, and the Bible doesn't comment on that at all. How is that even important or helpful?

Yup. And that is only the beginning of missed things in the creation story. There is still stuff buried in the Hebrew that is not readily apparent in most English translations. Also, even the English of the rest of the verses has hidden goodies. It is something of a disgrace how most Christians never apply any critical thinking to scripture, and jst believe whatever they were told.

A well meaning young man and teacher but a good example of hyperexegesis which unfortunately is common in today’s confused theological paradigms. The narrative does NOT state that the condition of the world was as it was before verse 2. It simply states that the first created state of the world immediately after “God created” was this formless water covered world and the Spirit was hovering above it as the narrative continues.

What people miss, where is "gravity" here. If water is on the earth what holds it down? The sun and moon and stars were not created yet, the 4th day. So what outer space? The earth was around before the sun and not spinning. 👍 People don't realize the earth is the center and the sun and moon move around us. The earth became formless and void, God doesn’t create anything in vain. “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that FORMED the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he FORMED it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. Genesis 1:1 is a separate creation from Genesis 1:2 - 2:3. Genesis 1:1 is indefinite period of time. Genesis 1:2 - 2:3 is the creation week of the "earth" which was created back in the beginning along with the host of planets, stars and galaxies in the entire universe. The gap of time was indefinite. This must be the reason why scientists date the materials of the earth and other planets in the solar system up to 4.3 billion years. However, genealogically, from the first created being; Adam, the earth is only more than 6 thousand years. The material earth has been in existence before the creation week. This "waterball" planet was created in the beginning along with the other planets, stars, and galaxies of the universe. TAKE NOTE: Lucifer must have been in existence before the creation week of this planet. His rebellion and war in heaven preceded the creation week. However, he and the host of angels must have been created after the creation of the universe in Genesis 1:1, yet, before the creation week of the Earth in Gen. 1:2 - 2:3.
