I'm not spending $30 a week on coffee out. I'm not spending a single dime on coffee out. I make a pot of coffee in the morning and I drink the free coffee in the breakroom at work to hold me over. I can't imagine "limiting" myself to $1400 a year in Starbucks' coffee. 🤔

Towards the end of 2023, I made a list of 24 things I would not buy in 2024. A lot of it was fueled by the fact that we had so many duplicates of these items already and the thought of bringing yet one more just seemed absurd. Socks, candles, makeup, more than two streaming subscriptions of any kind were several of the things on my list. I'm keeping a journal of my "fails" as well, so far I've only had one what I'd call fail, so I'm not mad. I have to keep reminding myself that I literally need nothing at the moment.
@HaleyVillena10 ай бұрын
Those duplicates really do accumulate fast! Good for you for making it a priority to use them first 🙌🏽

Love this! I didn't think I needed a low buy year, but reading your list it's so true that I don't need to buy more makeup, yet it's still tempting when I see people rave about a specific product.

It’s amazing how much we can cut our consumption without really affecting our standard of living. Like, I did not know coffee table books or needing to rotate home decor (aside from holiday decor) were a thing before I started watching frugal living videos where people say they’re giving that up.

I put my husband and I on only two Starbucks a week. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. We order one Triente iced coffee with no ice o, cream or sweetener. We take our own creamer and cups of ice and share the single triente. This has been a huge savings plus it is a date for us and our dog gets to go along which he loves. I also only buy used clothes except underwear. No home decor, no candles until I am totally out, and I only read books from the library. I’m really thrifty.

Thinking of quitting social media. I think makeup use to be a thing… now one face cream, mascara, lipstick and a blush. In my purse so always with me. No more stuff. Have reduced my inventory of stuff like crazy, clothes, kitchen gadgets, utensils, junk drawers, decorations etc. . I do have a salon so social media is kind of essential for that but even so I’m seriously thinking about it.

Can you add the social media response as a responsibility for the person that does the scheduling of appointments for your salon? Then just add a calendar reminder for you (or her if you totally want hands off) check in on comments and feedback. Maybe download a social media for salons content calendar and have her follow that as a guide for posting.

I have a room full of expensive art supply, yarn, floss, quilting material, gemstones, fabric dyes, and more; pristine not out of box. I want to break out watercolor paint, cut into exquisite fabric, string beads, and using embroider hoops and floss. By the way I also have a bedroom full of clothes shoes handbags and jewelry, too; many never used. I am not buying any of these items this year either.

I am planning a trip to Japan next year with my friends and I knew I needed to fix my spending habits- to save for it. I used to hate listing things that I bought because it always makes me feel guilty but it actually helped me saving- because it makes me guilty 😂. I don’t shop a lot, but when I do, I tend to overspend. So I had to re-evaluate my spending, mainly cutting down on take-outs. I’m only two months in but there’s been an improvement and I still have a long way to go. Even if the Japan trip falls through, at least I still have my money. 😂 I will have to unsubscribe to a lot of shopping websites though. And for the socmed- I just removed them from my home screen to reduce my time on them. I can’t really delete it as it’s my main way of connecting to my friends and family overseas.

I have 4 boys and when they were babies I would buy their clothes from goodwill but only the items that were on sale for half off. And I would sell the items they outgrew to pay for their new clothes ( well new to them). Also it is great if people that give you baby clothes at your baby shower, they get you items in different sizes so then you will have some of every size. My mother in law would always get my boys clothes at thrift stores and yard sales and they were all different sizes and for different seasons. Also one of my husband's cousins past down a bunch of baby clothes and some other stuff that her baby outgrew since she had her baby so many months before I had one of my kids.

In many ways, I have a hard time SPENDING money...especially on certain things. We don't have debt and have been budgeting all 6 years of our marriage. But there are other things I could definitely benefit from going a year without buying. We have so many candles! It's hard for me to resist buying them. But I want to use some up before getting more. So I lit a few candles after watching this video. 🥰 I used to have the same problem with journals, but now if I buy them, I just give them as gifts. I still have fun picking them out and they are more likely to be used by someone who doesn't already have 10 unused plus 10 half-filled notebooks. 😅 Thanks for this video and good luck with your low buy year! I may do a low buy quarter? I like the process of evaluating purchases and being more intentional about it all!

I haven't bought a candle in forever since I don't burn mine much bc my husband complains about the smell. we have a rental that's not our style so really no need to buy any more home decor since it's not gonna look good in this house anyway. I'm going to be using lily and fox nail strips instead of going to the salon. I've only been to Starbucks twice this year and was shocked by how much the price went up. And not buying any extra makeup if I haven't used up what Im already using

I love having fun little drinks like boba. And I was spending more than I wanted on them. So I wanted to try and make them myself but every recipe I tried on Pinterest or from a quick Google search just wasn’t the same taste as what I was getting in boba shops so I kept buying them since I couldn’t recreate it myself. Until I tried the recipes from The Boba Book by Andrew Chau and Bin Chen (The Boba Guys). It’s seriously exactly like the shops and there’s tons of fun recipes. I 100% recommend that to anyone who loves fun drinks and is willing to make drinks themselves but just needs a little guidance. It certainly saves me money :)

I see how this can make the challenge more difficult! If you’re sharing finances maybe you could find some sort of agreement in running bigger purchases by each other first?
