The realization that US electric utilities will need to bid against Europe for coal, and how that will push US coal prices toward European prices, and the knock on effect that may have on US natgas prices was a revelation for me. Great interview, thank you both! Natalie knows her stuff (we use WoodMac for data and reports at our resource consulting business, they are quality peeps)

This was really a fascinating episode... It was particularly interesting to hear that certain grades of metallurgical coal are now less expensive than thermal coal. However your guest mentioned several times that the levelized cost of pv solar was going to be lower than fossil fuels in Asian countries. I wonder if she was referring only to coal with the recent price spikes or to fossil fuels in general. It would be interesting to understand why she thinks this when there are many experts who say that when the accounting is done properly this cannot be the case.

Russia is scrambling to build up the INSTC route via Iran for India and Asian markets. Excellent point on the logistics costs of western coast dominated Russian coal.
