The fog and rain were bad luck. Too bad about Block's engine failure as well. I would love to see the the McMurtry Spierling do PPIHC next year. After seeing it obliterate the Goodwood record, I think they would have a shot at Dumas' record if the Spierling can perform at altitude like it did at Goodwood. And have more favorable conditions of course!

If you like aviation, racing or weather or any combination of the three, this is a must watch. He goes from VFR to IFR multiple times, dry to wet to icy and he must have the course memorized because of he makes a mistake at most places, he’s falling off a sheer cliff. This is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen.

That was an epic fog to clear to cloud run. Reflexes of a cat too, with those catches. The catch of big oversteer under brakes into a midway hairpin, was impressive.

I always wanted to be a racing driver, then I watch Robin and I am fine with being a spectator! Absolutely epic team effort given the setbacks and conditions, but also a beautiful run. Congrats all round.

I was amazed that you were even able to do this. I was standing just before the gentle turn before the start, and I heard your car before I saw it, and it was gone into the fog by the time you made it through the real start. I could tell you were pushing a lot more than the other drivers, just based on speed, racing line, and how much you were using your car. Can’t really do much better in these conditions, yet you probably see some room for improvement somewhere. Better luck on the weather next year Robin!

You and i must have been standing next to each other lol I was at the just after the sheriff's mobile unit. So cold and foggy. Could barely see the car staging then would just disappear as it crossed the start line.

Been to many of Hillclimbs but never one like this. Seriously this was the most talented running ever plus the most challenging I can not wait until next year I'm going enter my wheelchair! Conditions at the top were beyond treacherous! Can’t believe you somehow pushed through… blind and soaked. It’s a wonder somebody didn’t die. They should have delayed for weather. I’m shaking just watching it.

That’s a tough watch towards then end. That can’t have been far off being abandoned / postponed. When the winning driver is at 20-30% throttle on a straight because he can’t see, you have to be realistic. That said - kudos to all the drivers. Seriously big stones on display that day!

I was at Devils Playground for this and it was literally like being in a cloud. Most of the day was like that but when the clouds broke for the last 4 or 5 drivers it was magnificent! Truly an unforgettable experience! This was my first time going but it for sure won't be my last.

Superb that, I once road an old motorbike in similar conditions ended up in a forest car park the actual road veered off suddenly left, first I knew was the change to gravel. Brilliant drive that.

I used to go to the hill climb as a spectator back in the 1970s. We would drive up a day or two before and camp at Devil's Playground. Even in July, it gets frickin' cold at night at 14,000 ft.! We had a sudden, brief blizzard blow in during the race one year. 45 minutes later it was sunny! BTW, one beer will get you drunk at that altitude! 😎

Occasionally it's not all about the machine, but the person behind it....it's clear they could've gone much, much faster but those conditions were awful. Chapeau to anyone who tried to get up there, let alone race with that level of visibility.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Simply awesome. Thank you for this video. Personally, I believe Pikes Peak Hill Climb is way more spectacular than Isle of Man TT. This rivals F1, WEC, WRC, or whatever is out there in terms of epic proportion.

This shows the level of driver skill and memory that's needed. We can see the road better on camera than he could through his visor as the camera has a rotating self cleaning lens. The guy is seriously skilled with balls to match!

@@TheXVenus if you watch the footage carefully when there's lots of fog or misting on the screen, you see it suddenly move away as if the screen glass is on a conveyor. It's a system used in F1 for on board cameras.
