It used to be worse. They built a new visitor center up on top, a few years ago I think. I ride motorcycles up/down piles peak alot and I shake my head at that exact spot you're talking about because they could have fixed that part during the time of building the new visitor center up on top 🤦🏼‍♂️

@@tropickman It is not sped up. Full time up was 9:04. He crosses the start near 0:49 and finishes near 9:53 which matches the the race timing. The frame rate seems a little slow so it may appear kind of choppy like a sped up video.

It's sooooo impressive how well these expensive engines run at such high elevations! I live in a high elevation area of the Colorado Rockies. Riding my carbureted bike around 10,000-14,200ft is an interesting experience, but soooo much fune. It's tuned for 7,000ft so the pops from the exhaust sound cool as hell with an fmf exhaust on her 😎🔥

Was the first time to watch this track by drivers perspective, not easy to drive, lower part is smooth, but the upper part is very bumpy, he even had a lot of wheel spin. Setup work under this conditions very difficult, too soft for the lower part but nearly too hard for the upper part. Track-mix reminds me a little bit on Nürburgring, but more sunny there😂. And of course, like always, in some corners you think "damned, I totally fucked up here" (f. e. around 2:00, corner apex not hit and wrong gear) but a good ride! Excellent!!

I was stationed at Ft Carson in the late 80s. Back then Pike's Peak had zero paved roads and no guardrails.

I have to admit, I'm wondering how they'd tune their engines for the change in altitude. Highest I've climbed (walked really) is Mt Fuji in Japan. That's 3776m I think, not quite as high as this, and the air is thinner up that high.

The ECU change the mix of air/fuel during the run. Of course that required a fine tune.

Is this car a diesel or something? Why is he only revving the engine to 6000rpm and no higher? Never seen a petrol engine rev so incredibly low, especially on Pikes Peak, where you need every single hp you can get. Anyone know what kind of engine this far is using?

I believe it's a 2L petrol engine that is typically used to power hybrid vehicles, but I haven't found info on if they've got regenerative braking, could explain it's stopping power

This engine is the same one Volvo Cars use, its a 2.0 lit petrol engine made in Skövde, Sweden.

It's the same 320HP engine found in Volvo, tuned. Stock turbo and cams. +400Hp at sea level, ~380hp @ 2800m.

Comunque secondo me con quella macchina avrebbe anche potuto vincere, mi sembra bestiale... però giustamente se stai scalando le montagne e hai un precipizio a 10 cm di distanza non è facile portare la macchina al limite, io mi sarei cagato sotto e avrei fatto i tornanti ai 60km/h... quindi è stato bravissimo, complimenti, è come una vittoria! Se questo è l'inizio il primo posto non tarderà ad arrivare 💪

You don't know how aggressive carbon brakes are and how much it takes to actually apply 100% brake pressure. Not even F1 drivers do that and use "trail braking" instead.

Yeah I think the HUD is just wrong, there's no way he's not braking as hard as possible. They have to translate brake pressure values to a percentage, the conversion is probably just configured for a different car. Same with the RPM's, redline seems to be at around 6k.

sounds like considerable lag when he goes WOT until you hear the turbo boosting. It´s keeping the revs so low, ~4krpm out of the corners. I wonder how much time is lost between xhp requested and xhp received.

Yes, normally when mounted in a Volvo, it has a 48v electric supercharger that takes care of the low revs. The engines that Cyan racing uses, is the older generation with a mechanical roots blower.
