That's what I love about autumn here in New England, the aroma of wood burning stoves in people's homes when I walk or drive around. I just love catching a whiff of that! It's one of my favorite things about fall and winter. Autumn to me is the best time of year. Not too hot, not too cold, smells great and the colors in the trees are gorgeous!

The gentle pace of your videos have helped me to get into the practice of stopping periodically and actually see the beauty around me. Birmingham and its environs are well-forested; indeed the whole state of Alabama. It's easy to get busy and just glance around and miss what's in front of my eyes. Thank you!

My heart aches for that tantalizing peace and serenity. The encroaching modernity. The fresh, yet, uneventful drama at each new turn. The Englishman in his castle and but always on the run. The breeze, the green, the secure waters and the constant echoes of the past are delightful. Thank you.

Its been 19 years since I left the UK and one of the things that is different watching your wonderful videos is how much more traffic there seems to be, so many more cars and lorries, much more than when I grew up and lived in Devon. I watch a wild camp channel as well, Wiltshire Man and no matter where he is one can hear traffic noise in the distance no matter where he is except for the lakes or mountains of Wales where traffic is replaced by masses of people. I don’t think I would go to the welsh mountains in search of peace! I now live in Austria and it’s much more like the UK was in the seventies in terms of pace of life and traffic noise.

Alas the traffic is nonstop everywhere :-(

I was looking forward to the rapid growth of the electric car with the resultant decrease in traffic noise being a benefit I was eagerly anticipating. The H&S pencil necks have stuck their oar in and introduced legislation that will require electric vehicles to emit some sort of warning sound. Whatever happened to The Tufty Club? :(

Talking about staying next to RR line reminds me of a story my Grandfather used to tell. He at one time lived in a boarding house in downtown Seattle, Washington, (USA), next to a trolley line and every morning, at 3am a trolley would come by and he wouldn't even notice, until one morning he woke up and couldn't figure out why until the trolley, which was running ten minutes late went rattling by, then he went back to sleep.

I at once started thinking of population density within, say, a half mile of the cuts. Realizing the full immensity of the system, as well as the diversity would make that an impossible question. Instead I focused on the couple of semi-permanent campers in the field, and I wondered what land they are on. Being another terribly difficult question for a passerby, I finally concluded to ask the number of dogs, and the ratio of owner-non-owner. Plenty of time to think out there David. It is lovely!

I must say, the landscape views from the canals are just as I remember England from before, stunning. The landscapes I see now are mostly rice paddies. Quite different. A thing I might remark on, maybe, that many boaters seem to be fond of "parking" in bendy spots, restricting the traffic flow. I would park my boat there where I do not restrict maneuvering room. But, please, vlog on, I love it.

I agree with your comments about the noise from the trains! One of my abiding memories of my Christmas on the K&A was the trains. The west of England line runs adjacent to the cut all the way from Bath to Reading, so one is never more than a few hundred yards from it. I was lucky enough however, to see "Tornado" as she steamed along, looking magnificent in her cream and royal blue livery. I was able to forgive the noise intrusion after seeing that! xx

You mention the smell of wood burning stoves. Having grown up Post war my parents had wood burning stoves. My Wife's family was the same. While we would like a fire place in our home they are terrible for heat efficiency of a home. We discovered Candles which are flavoured with various types of specific trees, our favourite is maple, combine that with a fake fireplace that looks real and we can virtually feel the heat. ha ha All the best on your contused tours of the Canals. Cheers

So great to have you posting cruising vlogs again, David. Cheers! If you ever have a mind to do a bit of DIY at the watering points, that leaking tap can be improved a bunch by tightening the nut just below the handle. The plunger shaft has packing around it (similar to your boat's stern gland). Just tighten it a bit with an adjustable wrench and you'll have improved the canal infrastructure.

Hi David! So interesting. At the same time that you filmed this, we were 'accidentally' staying at 'The Narrowboat' at Weedon and then remembered we had friends on the GU whom we hadn't seen for fifteen years. We got in touch and they were moored at Nether Heyford. After a great couple of days with them we ended up, a few weeks later, purchasing a Narrowboat they owned on the same mooring. It seems, we worked out, to be exactly the same time you were passing by. Crazy coincidence! We have been loving binge-watching your vlogs together before bedtime! Look out for an old green Norseman 40' called 'Zion' next year!
