@@ukaly1 Particularly the Eastern /NorthEastern & Mountain areas, or wherever weather is not tempered by the great Pacific ocean’s moderating effects (Western Pac NW, Coastline, Puget Sound, Vancouver/BC etc), although we also have lovely Fall colors with more sensitive deciduous species… In Seattle Fall leaves are combined with new growth on many evergreen species and even hardier herbs, etc, as the humidity returns (later in year now, as the climate warms …). Somewhat a gardeners’ paradise, for those allergic to the real heat of the continent/East & SE US.

Fair play Sean, I admire your willingness to have a go at baking the pie. 😂 You can buy the sheets of pastry, I bought some the other day from ALDIs, although you don’t get much in a roll. I would suggest buying a grinder,like a small coffee grinder for example, you can use it to make your own caster sugar and icing sugar from regular granulated sugar, a lot cheaper! Plus you can grind lots of other things too, for example you can grind down your own spices which makes a huge difference to the taste, especially with things like curry.

Careful with the cats amaryllis are poisness to them, one they have flowered I remove the flower stalk and allow the p,ant to continue, one the frost have gone I then put outside for the summer and then let it dry out around sept and let the leaves die back, and let it be dormant for a month or more, in a frost free shed, then o re pot and bring back in the house, I have kept my bulb for years, and it has had babies that I have given to others

My red blooming Amaryllis is over 30 years old. It always sits in soil, slightly protruding up, in a small ceramic pot with a drainage hole & saucer. It blooms every year, at least once. I just water the soil a bit once a week. It sits in a bright, sometimes sunny, windowsill, indoors, all year round - though I could put it out in the warm Summer months, probably not in direct sunshine, especially in the heat of day, though. When the leaves turn yellow, and dry up, off they go into the compost. News ones always come up & the plant reblooms! 🌹

Treat your amaryllis as a houseplant in the spring, put it outside in summer. Let it rest in a dark, dry place in the autumn, and start watering it when you are wanting it to bloom. I have had one for about 10 years, it blooms every year, and has gotten about as big as a large grapefruit. It even has made "babies" that I have gifted to family members. I repot it every 2 or 3 years. Feed it monthly until October.

Flour on yiur board & rolling pin to stop the pastry from sticking. You can buy the sheets & they are usually in a long thin box in the fridge (should be next to the one you bought). If you butter/grease your dish, the pastry doesn't stick & also egg wash the edges of the pastry base, it helps make the lid stick whilst cooking. Looked a bloonin good pie though....bet you enjoyed it

You don't have to keep Mushrooms in the fridge. if you didn't buy it out of a fridge it doesn't have to be stored in a fridge. The exception is anything in a tetra pack like UHT milk..once that's been opened it has to be rfrigerated. Keep Mushrooms, eggs potatoes and bread all in a dark place... a kitchen cabinet is fine, that isn't open often .. The pastry can also be frozen... as well as kept in the fridge.. Incidentally, The Woolworth in Australia is a seperate entity from FW Woolworth

Hi Sean. Hilarious. Nice pie. To stretch out pastry just put a lid on it, roll thinner. Use flour. You need a basic cook book for your kitchen. Go to a charity shop and get a Delia smith one. Try making a crumble next. Using all those nuts in your cupboard, porridge oats. My recipe : 6oz plain or self rising flour 2oz porridge oats 20z chopped nuts, any 3oz butter 3oz sugar, demarera or any Cinamin Rub in method. Cook same as a pie. Or at 1st buy a packet mix so you get the feel of it. X

Sean, ideally your bone broth is meant to be a stock for homemade soup. Just add a couple of pints of boiling water to it, some chopped carrots, onions, potatoes and swede etc. Boil and simmer for about 45 minutes. You can buy soup plastic freezer bags for the leftovers that stand on end. It will do you a few more nutritious meals and last you much longer. You just heat it up in your microwave with the bag open at the top a little.

Here is what I found about apple skins: The majority of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in apples are found in the peel. Apple skins contain exceptionally high concentrations of antioxidants. They also have compounds (triterpenoids) with significant anti-cancer capabilities. If you cook apples with the skins on, you can retain most of the fiber and some of the phytochemicals.
@SuzanneU13 сағат бұрын
I wash my apples when I get them home, then let them sit in a bowl of water with a splash of apple cider vinegar for half an hour. Then I let them air dry. This removes a fair amount of pesticide and other contaminants. The apples keep well and taste fine! Like you, I like to eat the skins for the nutrients.
@Etheldreda-13 сағат бұрын
Only if they’re organic though, skins accumulate the many pesticides
