That is called "chambfering" (the bit where you're taking off a bit of the finish and preventing breakout), and is a important step in the process of many wood and metalworking projects. Perhaps a tad deeper than I'd go on the string-thru holes, but damn that's one fine guitar for the $. ❤ From N. Idaho!

Btw, this really is a beautiful guitar. Makes you realize how much other major companies overcharge - even if you take it into account that the tuners and electronics would be better from a major brand, they get DEEP discounts on those parts for buying in massive bulk. Imagine Fender doing a Squier like this with branded parts and electronics. Or Epiphone. If a little unknown company can do a gorgeous guitar with beautiful wood for rock bottom prices, clearly . . . well, makes ya think how much the big boys mark up their guitars and WHY that might be. 🤔 I think Sean needs to get a bulk deal with Seymour Duncan, btw. He uses a lot of those bad boys! Would love to see Sean try those Fishman Fluence pickups - it would make for hilarious content watching him try to get it wired up cause I’ve heard they’re super confusing, lol. But I do wonder what he thinks anyway. 😂😂😂

I have bought several Cozarts over the years, and still have some of them. The doublenecks are excellent, but you have to swap out the pickups, and move the tailpieces over a bit, then it's identical to the no longer built Epiphone EDS-1275. terrific necks, mahogany body, well balanced. That's the set-neck one, but if you can find the original bolt on version, it's a screamer, but it's about 25 lbs of solid maple body. It needs NOTHING, but unless you are built like Wolfgang Van Halen, forget it, it's like having a forklift strapped onto your shoulder. For the money, it's probably the best thing online. Keep the "good" stuff at home, and take the Cozart to the gig instead. Never had an issue with shipping, broken/parts falling off, the only real weak spot was the pickups, and that was mainly on the newer doublenecks. That was 5-6 years ago, I imagine the quality has probably gotten even better by now. Glad to see a review on these things.

I picked up a Squire Telecaster for 182.00 (White/Dark Wood fingerboard) The fingerboard looks exactly like old very dark rosewood but it can't be, I do not know what it is. It is super light, I believe Basswood body. The neck is awesome! it is straight, slight adjustments to truss and string height, swapped the bridge, got all new pickups/controls/jack from USA Fender parts and I love it, It is a great guitar. I also have an 62 Telecaster Custom (AVRI from 2007) which is nice too but that cost 2K. I love my 182 dollar Squire Telecaster.

Squier is total shit when compared to what Harley Benton does. I'm buying guitars from one guy who is getting B-Stocks from Thomann and then fixes them and sets them up. What I can buy from him for 180 euros it costs 600-700 euros at Fender or Gibson, literally and without any exaggeration. That's because Thomann is selling their own guitars, Harley Benton is their own brand, there are no resellers and middle man who are taking their own cut to make money and on top of that there's increasing of the price by using a brand name to jack up the prices in artificial way. For example, at what price range Fender Squier gives you a guitar with locking tuners, stainless steel frets and graphite nut? Just those 3 things, as an example? I'm getting that level of quality for 170-180 euros. But, I'm from Europe. To give you example: I went to a store and noticed Squier Telecaster Cabronita Baritone guitar, it costs 487 euros at the official reseller. That's how much it costs here, in USA the price is probably different. Now, Harley Benton MR Modern Baritone costs at Thomann 307 euros and it would cost me 340 euros if I order it, the shipment would be around 35 euros. B-stock at the guy I'm buying from with only tiny, little almost unnoticeable scratched back (which someone returned because it was probably damaged during transportation), costs 170 euros and with set up action, fully functional, brand new, with only 5mm scratched back, a fucking speck on the back. If you look at the specs HB guitar is better and I'm buying it for 3 FUCKING TIMES less money. I can literally buy 3 HB Mosrites: classic, modern and baritone and go home and someone will buy Squier Telecaster Cabronita Baritone for the same amount of money. Do you know how much I paid for Harley Benton TE-53KR (KR stands for Keith Richards)? 180 euros. Fender Squier would sell you that same guitar for 400-450 euros. I bought Harley Benton HB-35 Plus for 150 euros. Basses? Same shit. Fender Squier is now making Sonic series (same with guitars) which replaces god fucking awful Bullet series which was a total TRASH. Their TRASH Sonic series of bases cost 160 euros. I literally bought 2 HB bases which are 3 TIMES BETTER in terms of quality and each costed me 170 euros. Fender, Gibson, can literally fuck off. People were being ripped off for years and that's coming to an end. Of course, I'm buying essentially 2nd hand stuff, because those are B-stocks, but those are all brand new guitars because someone bought them new and there was some speck on the back of a guitar and they returned them to get a new one, but the thing is even if you go to buy some 350 euros Harley Benton guitar, Fender and Gibson would sell you that same quality for 500-600 euros.

Paulownia is from the Empress tree that grows in Western China. It is basically a boat and furniture wood. Since a Telecaster's tone mostly comes from its pickups and design, it can be built from non-tone woods like Pine and other cheap woods with little loss in tone.

Hey sport, i am a sinestral, and as such my choices are limited. I have a bucket list to play the greatest song ever on my 70th birthday, so i bought a Cozart cherry double neck, (not white in case some dropkicks get the song confused), and it is Great! had my luthier mate go over it, he did a bit of fret levelling, and a full set up. I changed both sets of pups to Bryan Williams double neck MSG 73's (these absolutely get the original "hollow chirp"!) put CTS 500k pots, emerson .22k PIO's, rewired the whole thing with switchcraft switches, (one a 4 / 2 switch) and turned the 3rd switch into an A ,B or AB output to a stereo jack, so using a Y cable you can run each neck to a different amp. This guitar is bloody fantastic! Needs a new nut on each neck, and i will change out the tuners, the stock are reasonable. The 12 string neck is the same width as the 6, which takes some getting used to, but for the price, i think around $300 it is definitely a winner! Cozart do a pretty good job, a great modding platform. Oh, forgot to mention i sheilded everywhere with copper tape sheilding. Looking at the 12 string Tele, rout out for p90's!

All I did was entonate it, change the strings and file down the fret ends a little, otherwise that tele sounds great!

people dont realise that all the Chinese made guitars these days are all CNC cut at the same row of factories in the same area. they've got it down to a formula. they pump em all out and put the decal of choice from the Western business thats paying them. a pickup change and a rewiring, decent switchcraft parts and you've got a gigging guitar. I've got a $200 J-Bass thats light as a feather and plays beautifully all over the neck. we live in the golden age of "beginner" guitars

I really want a Humbucker bridge for a Tele. I can find a Tele at Marlers with a Medium C Tele neck. That is COZART? If I can find one with a Humbucker rout, I could buy a Seymour Duncan and a Tele bridge. I don’t want to mess with my (50s) Fender. But the SD Humbucker and string through just made it the best Tele I’ve ever heard. I mean it. It sounds so good.

I've owned over 75 electric guitars over a 50+ year period, from Gibson's to vintage Fender's to Steinberger's and all points in between. As much as I hate to admit it, some of the guitars coming out of China now are killer guitars at give away prices. The Eart brand strats and tele's are great - roasted maple necks, compound radius fretboards, perfectly dressed stainless frets, even decent pickups and tuners all for around $400. I now own three - a strat style, a tele, and a semi-hollow tele custom version. I play them more than any of my other guitars, which is kind of depressing in a way. US manufacturers should be worried although there will always be guys that care about the name and are willing to pay an extra $3-4K for it. I work too hard for that. Sterling is making killer guitars too.

A little tip for the tape mark; Use a skinny strip of tape and wrap it around the bit where it comes together on the other side, forming something akin to a flag. Then, when you drill, it will blow the saw dust away. Maybe not quite at that speed, but perhaps a little. Anywho... Sweet guitar, man. Great stuff!

I bought the 12 string sunburst tele about 5 years ago, and its great. I changed the knobs to Gibson Barrel style, snd maybe the volume pot cos it was scratchy, but thats it. It stays in tune, plays GREAT, and it looks nice. Wood has been stable too. I have plenty of high end guitars. You cant beat em for the price, and im sure its pretty cool to be building guitars in southeast Asia compared to other stuff. For a beginner, you cant beat it, and you can ALWAYS get the money back on re sale. You can mod them, learn luthiery, and id gig on them. Its not a big deal if someone steals it. Its a win win.

It looks really nice and too love the binding. That's one of the cosmetic reasons that I like Gibson's more than Fender's, because you rarely see binding on a Fender. Besides new tuners, one of the first things I would mod, would be the pickups. I'd like to have a coil splitter for the humbucker bridge position. I noticed that the string ferrules are not flush mounted. I'm sure that it's the proper method but it seems like it would be better flush mounted ??? Just asking, not trying to find fault.

Excellent video, really enjoyed watching what you did. Love your channel. FYI - I have a US made Fender Strat and G+L ASAT but a couple years ago picked up a Squier CV Butterscotch Tele. Love the guitar and upgraded ALL the electronics EXCEPT the pups. CRL switch, CTS pots, cloth pushback wire and Switchcraft jack. This is my number one now. I certainly can't think I would spend over a $1K more to get a US made one. I found that just those items made a great deal of difference in the tone of my guitar. So much so that I haven't found the desire to buy a new pup. BUT, I found a cheap, brand new Fender 4-way switch so that will be my next upgrade.

Dang thing rarely goes out of tune and it is very easy on the eye as well. I was shocked that the body was a solid piece of paulownia wood. Not a seam anywhere and beautiful blond finish. Top appears to be a thin veneer of some dark brown striped wood. No idea what it is, but it looks very nice and unusual. I also noticed that no two Cozarts look alike or even have exactly the same specs. If your Tele is half as good, you still got a good one.

I bought a Cozart a few years back. The "flame maple veneer" was literally a thick plastic cap, and it looked it. No idea how it played because the thick plastic cap arrived broken, with a shred-your-arm sharp plastic edge raised about a sixteenth across most of the upper body, but I will say that literally everything on the guitar screamed cheap. No thanks.

My top loaded HB tele had partially drilled holes in the body, so I finished the job to make it a string thru.

I love your vids, but why not use your drill press to do the string ferrule holes on the back? They turn out perfect every time.

More cheap and affordable guitars need to have nice veneers. It adds some class. One of the prettiest telecasters I’ve seen reviewed.

@@scarmyguitar I'm actually a great fan of yours and a subscriber. I've written to you twice about how helpful it would be to know the weights of such guitars as I can't use anything much over 3kg because of 40 years of playing and shoulder issues. Also, the weight of guitars, especially cheap ones is never mentionedin the specs.. probably for that very reason.

@@scarmyguitar I agree, he give you a super uncool answer, weight is important to a lot of people, maybe he cant swing the $3 for a cheap scale.

That looks nice. Too nice for $147 but manufacturing methods have improved. If the components are ok and the wood doesnt warp it will be a winner

That guitar looks pretty good compared to the Cozart double-cut Tele I bought a few years back... It was FRICKIN' DISASTER. I had to reposition the bridge because it was crooked and off-center. I also had to re-rout the pickup cavity (which was the reason why the bridge plate was off) and plug and re-drill the string-through holes. The control cavity also had to be re-routed in order to fit full-size CTS pots in there. The neck was a nightmare. Wonky frets all up and down the fretboard, and they had "rolled" the fretboard edges by running a screwdriver up and down the neck (AFTER the frets had been installed). I just ditched the neck completely and replaced it with an Allparts neck. Surprisingly, the body actually had a trans-white nitro finish (on a heavy, multi-piece Ash body), but it was the sloppiest finish I'd ever seen. Sags and runs all over the place. I considered refinishing the body, but decided to just sand and buff out the more heinous runs. Of course, the pickups (and the hardware) were trash. I put a set of Custom Shop '51 NoCasters in it, and Wilkinson tuners. In the end, it was a decent guitar, but man, it needed a LOT of work. A friend of mine bought the same guitar at the same time I did, and I had to fix his up as well. So it wasn't that I just got a bad one. His guitar had all the same issues that mine did. At the time, I thought: "Meh... what can you expect for $120?", but I think I would have been better off buying a Squier Bullet Tele for $99. Except the only reason I bought the Cozart was because it was a double-cut, and you couldn't get that body type without dropping $1,600 on the Limited Edition Fender that was out at the time (or having one custom made).

I believe that Left Lane Cruser off the Bompf Alive label that the Black Keays own Use a The NEW ROCKABILLY ACOUSTIC/ELECTRIC RESONATOR GUITAR ABALONE INLAY Only they had it changed so the neck and headstock being natural with only poly finish and had the top in a a dark Sunburst with black back as no other guitar looks this way with the same headstock shape. They probably did this as the white is just too bright. If not then Left Lane Cruiser has an old Guitar that Cozart has made a clone of the old out of production instrument.

I bought a cheap Glary Strat copy. I bought it to see how much I could improve the tone and its playability. Parts of the mods I did was to swap the thin tone block out for a nice beefy brass block. I don’t use tremolos so there was no problem there. But it was poorly made from the start. The strings wouldn’t come out of the original block when I started tearing it down, then, the bridge/ Tremolo screws were drilled unevenly, so I p,urged them with toothpicks and tight bond and redrilled them. My friend bought a Tele from them and his has no problems. So I think it’s a crapshoot when buying a cheap guitar,,

You know , not everybody has the skills and/or tools to do that. So if you bring it to a guitar luthier ( is that the right name ? ) you have to pay mucho dinoro's for those adjusments. All by all you could buy yourself , for the totall amount of money that you have spend now on this guitar , a better guitar which doesn't need the job that is needed to sound and intonate good. The Telecasters from Mexico are a good example ; real good affordable Tele's. And I envy those guys who have the tools and skills to do a job like in this video.
