15-16/02/2016 Aviemore 73967/67007 on Highland Sleeper

The first day of a 73/9 working the Highland Main Line (HML) Sleeper saw 73967 piloting 67007 on it's return south from Inverness at Aviemore. The following morning the pair return north to Inverness.

I used to work the Caledonian sleepers from Edinburgh to Carlisle and from Edin to Aberdeen. Back then we still had Class 86s 87s 90s 37s &47s.

Interesting that they seem to be capable of working in multiple with 67s.

Is this operating double headed or is the 67 for later use when the train gets heavier?

Martindyna IIRC this was shortly after the 73/9s were introduced, so double headed for reliability I think.

Was the 67 to provide train supply, or in case the 73 couldn't manage six coaches on its own?

+AndreiTupolev There are another 8 coaches or so added further down the line to that train -if it still works like it used to.

+Alan Surgeoner This portion from Inverness stays in this formation to Edinburgh were it joins up with portions from Fort William and Aberdeen, the whole lot then continues south to London as one train with an Electric loco.

MTU 8V4000R43L. The Serco Caledonian Class 73/9s numbered 73966 to 73971 where recently re-engineered from 3rd rail electrics locos for the purpose of hauling the Sleeper trains north of central Scotland, from Edinburgh to three destinations, Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen.
