63 YO grandma here;) Just got a Quest2 and I'm already loving it so much. I've been only looking for exercise and non-gaming Apps and ways to also get VR experiences with things I already do. This was all SO helpful! Thank you. I've used Google Tilt when I was teaching elementary and middle school. A also purchased a museum experience (created by the Tate Museum in London) and it was amazing for my classroom. Walking and interacting with Mondrian's studio was wonderful! My (Apple) school bought me a PC (whole other learning curve I had to muddle through alone) just so I could use VR with my kiddos (Vive at that time). The kids were so engaged when they had their turn using it. I retired at the start of Covid and now so happy I can keep learning and play around again with VR and without the expense of buying a gaming PC. Being untethered is game changer! After watching your video it looks like there is enough here to keep me busy learning and exploring, for awhile. I only wish I had other retired gal pals IRL that I could share my excitement with...so spilling over here. Apologies.

Love this comment as well. Some perspective; my grandma owned 40 acres of bottomland (pecan groves) but lived in 2 room house, water was by hand pump and the shitter was out back aways. That was about 60 years ago.

Don't underestimate the social interaction value provided by the multiplayer games. Getting the Walkabout Mini Golf, Golf +, Eleven table tennis, and First Person Tennis games have allowed me to interact regularly with friends ad family around the country that I would otherwise interact with once in a blue moon. It's turned out to be by far the best thing about VR for me.

Oh yeah I love my VR I love my VR headset I love that I can go around the world in it but to be honest nothing beats the real world and it feels good that I have a way to connect to my friends that are thousands and Miles away on my Facebook app on there and my messenger app on there plus it feels really good that you can do a lot more than just games I mean could you imagine how boring that would be if the only thing you could do was games I mean I can literally watch a movie in a movie theater in my own apartment and all I got to do is pay a few extra bucks a month that is awesome

Absolutely agree with your list! In addition, I would add: 1.) *LOST RECIPES* - the best description I can offer is that it is a "relaxing cooking experience." I was shocked at how enjoyable this was, puttering around in ancient kitchens learning ancient cooking techniques. It's really great, I promise! 2.) *PUZZLING PLACES* and/or *CUBISM* - relaxing tactical puzzles games with 3D pieces that float in the air around you. Cubism has the option for passthrough view. 3.) *DANCE CENTRAL* - even just the free sample is fun to dance on a real dance floor and learn some moves. 4.) a *KZbin VR EXPERIENCE* - like floating over Las Vegas is a crowd pleaser for newbies. I would also suggest *MALOKA* as a great meditation and relaxation app. It gives you your own peaceful "mediation island" that you build out and design the more you mediate. For anyone new to VR, you will be surprised by how much meeting in VR can feel like a more "real" or "natural" way to hang out than having a video call does. I have far-away family and hanging out with them for a round of golf in *WALKABOUT GOLF* or some bowling in *FOREVER BOWL* or watching something in *BIG SCREEN* actually feels like hanging out. It is 1000% better than sitting still in front of a zoom screen. It may not be intuitive if you haven't yet tried VR, but spatially it feels a lot more like we are "together" having a fun shared experience and joking around, than staring at each other awkwardly on screen does. TIP: When we have people over who want to experience VR, we project what's happening in VR to our big screen TV. (Popular when using *GOLF 5 eClub* - to watch everyone's attempts at the driving range) Do a web search for easy instructions. In my case I need to connect to my laptop via the meta web link logon, initiate connection while wearing the headset. I then use the "project" function on my laptop to easily project to our smart TV. (But everyone's tech and connectivity will be different.)

Thank you so much for the information. I am 73 years old and this is my first Quest 3 VR. OMG! When I went to the store (browsing around) I put these on and immediately started talking out loud that this is amazing. I love the exercising, meditation (new to me) and boxing. Yep. I got the Brink Traveler but having difficulty navigating it hopefully it will start to make sense. I wish I could get more people my age to try this but in the between I am having so much fun. Pssst. I still work and sneaked out today to take a Zumba class. This was such a great experience. Anyway just wanted to say thank you so much. If there are new tips and tricks for the Quest 3 I hope you let us know. In the meantime this is a 73 year old lady enjoying VR.

It requires a PC, but SpaceEngine. (Can also be run outside of VR on one's PC.) It lets you visit the worlds of our solar system and the universe. Hover over Saturn. Stand on a Jovian moon and look up to see how Jupiter would look from that vantage point. This would fall under an educational app. It does deliver a strong dose of awe if one enjoys astronomy. KZbin has a nice selection of VR videos on various topics.

Polarized eyewear is a minor distraction for most audiences, although it does reduce brightness. Stereo imaging in a theater projection setting is very difficult to "get right" due to the varying geometry required for different seating positions. Sit to far away, and you get "stretch". Too far left or right from center? Not good. Also, the range of interocular distances in the audience must be accommodated to prevent smaller interoculars from becoming excessively "wall-eyed". Even the screen size itself makes a variable to be considered. It ain't easy, and it's amazing it works as well as it does. VR eyewear has distinctive advantages that overcomes all of the above (except the need for special eyewear).

Good point but in VR you would sit in the perfect spot. Everyone can. You wouldn't have to sit in the nose bleed balcony top left seat to watch a film. So unless the purpose of the app is to explore a theater rather than to watch a film, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

This could be a great method to attend support groups for ppl who've become house bound. Have a moderator and maybe 15 people or 20. Gets crazy after that. I used to lead men's support group in Toronto but nothing here an hour north. Is this a possibility? Ps I've only just begun after seeing Kayak Oasis. Luckily bought on sale. New head strap is crazy needed. My psvr headset is a perfect fit. Strange company but excited. Hate FB tho.

Watching netflix and amazon prime, how big can you make the video screen size? Also for web based players for services that don’t have apps (HBO max, paramount+, etc.).

(Thumb trigger change from left to right controller) I'm right handed and need the thumb trigger to be on the right controller so I can have my character run in a straight line. Ive never been able to make Mario run and jump at the same time. This issue is making game play no fun. Thank you if you can help

Why am I seeing no resolution improvements at all on my ocular quest 2 after updating the software to v49. I have also run SideQuest on my PC and connected via the bespoken cable and tried to improve the resolution etc, but again to no avail. I do know the connection is successful as I have been able to remove the need for a guardian. Yes, I have cleaned the lens and all the rest of the requirements etc etc. Can you help me, Please?

I have one question. Do you have to stay still when using the vr or can you walk around? I only ask because I'm really interested in getting the Quest 3 for meditating on the beach but always wondered if it allows you to feel like you are actually walking on the beach or any other location. I hope that makes since. Have a great day.

What about watching my 360° photos and videos that I made on my, for example, insta360X3? How is it possible? Should I download them somewhere first? BTW, I got meta quest 3...

I'm utterly clueless about VR but I'm intrigued by the idea of a virtual cinema. How does it work? Can you invite your friends to a private viewing of a film or is it more like real life, where you share a theatre with the general public? Can you talk to people in the theatre, or hear other people? How large does the screen look, and is there a "large space" effect to the sound, such as you would experience in a real cinema? And of course: how do you pay for a viewing?

So I literally downloaded it last night on my quest 2 for free. You start in your own private home Theater where u have a menu u can choose different films or tv shows. There’s also public viewing party’s that takes u to a public cinema where u can watch movies with other viewers and talk etc. as far as sound and stuff goes it’s usually pretty good but I’d definitely recommend headphones if your gonna sit down and actually watch a long movie. The paywall comes in with the 3D movies u are able to rent, it’s 5$ for each movie and there a list of like 15 movies (some decent movies honestly) and u can watch the 3D trailer to experience the effect and see if u like it. But from my experience it’s pretty legit. Oh and I almost forgot they prompt u to make a account when u start in order to invite friends to your theater etc…. Hope this helps.

@@ubieboobie5906 Thanks. Yes, that gives me a pretty good idea of what it's about. Not sure that this application alone is enough to make me want a VR system though - I'm old(ish) and don't play games or anything like that.

@@scollyer.tuition let me give you a different description from Ubies. (I've used these and other apps quite a bit, and I'm not much of a gamer either.) So: on big screen, you can join someone's movie room or you can create your own. If you create your own you can set it public (and set a max number of people) or private, and invite specific friends if you wish or watch by yourself. There are a few environments (classic movie theater room, modern theater room, camp site, home room, and a few others). There are movies for rental, but you can really play any movie you have on your computer for free even if you have a 3D movie on your pc (that will require a pc, even if the pc is not connected to your headset). Worth noting: this is a spcial app. You have apps that are just for watching videos in a virtual screen without ability to invite people to join you. Those usually have slightly better controls, and can be an excellent choice to play videos directly from your headset's storage, and they can make it easy to watch videos laying down on your bed. (Excellent experience IMHO) Although you are not a gamer I'd say: try a couple games. The novelty factor makes it worth the trouble. And finally: vrchat. It's a social vr app, where users can build places and avatars (requires somewhat advanced knowledge of game design tools). In this platform there are movie theaters (with a vast collection of movies, even 3D ones), and there's also music, dance, karaoke, parties, community events (you'll need to be on discord servers to find out the time and place), and there's also simple games (even clones of beatsaber). There is also p0rn (videos, social, games). I worried I would be throwing money away when I bought the quest, but it's been awesome. If I were you I would wait for the quest 3 and buy it. It's totally worth it even if you don't game.

@@scollyer.tuition There are types of games that you might like. I'm 66.. I enjoy Beat Saber,.. fishing.. there's a very good Golf app and there are immersive experiences... you can tour Rome or other places.. there are mystery games, etc... you can interact with other players in some of them if you want or you can just do it alone. It's actually pretty cool.

Do you have to buy each app experience? Can you sample them before purchase? How much to these apps usually cost? What comes free out of the box? I am still on the fence if I should buy it because I am afraid I won't be able to afford to use it with all these additional purchases. Help!
