Hey Bryan, great work putting in all the stats. Love your content . One small thing I wanted to highlight is that CMC invest allows you to buy one stock , one transaction per day upto 1000$ for free , so one can buy 999$ worth of VAS, 999$ worth of VGS, 999$ worth of ETHI and so on in single transaction in a day, and this perfectly suits for some one who is a long term investor and does dollar cost averaging 😊

It isn't all about fees. As an experienced trader, I still trade with commsec. Alot of traders have experienced so many difficulties with trying to get their money out from CMC markets. To me, peace of mind is the most important factor when chosing a broker, not fees. GOLD.

You make a good point Jason. However, I’m a proponent of long term investing and a lot of my audience are beginners so I would assume they would be investing in small chunks hence why I think fees are important. Although, I do agree reputation and reliability is also important.

GOLD! AVOCADO! KEY! MORE PLEASE! Thank you so much for this channel! I literally discovered FIRE around 5am this morning and have already watched (listened to) a lot of your videos while at work today. I am so excited to get home and start looking at some statements and sorting myself out. One question, if I have it right, if I go with Stake, I will still have to manually manage my DCA each time I make a deposit? I think I'm going to struggle picking one out of your top 3, I came across Pearler first thing via the Australian FIRE subreddit, but I'm so grateful for coming across your channel because now I will do a bit more research before blindly jumping in. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! 🙏💙💙

I have heard other brokers are working on their own auto invest function but so far, I haven't seen anything concentre. Anyway, Pearler is a great choice for beginners. GOLD! - i've used selfwealth for a few years for lump sums with free trades but since I ran out I am moving to CMC to DCA. A lot of people commenting on this video and other videos about having problems withdrawing money from CMC. I will cross that bridge when I get there (I ain't selling for years baby!) but I'm sure it's not impossible to withdraw money.. I anticipate that people withdrawing money probably need the cash sooner rather than later and maybe withdrawals take a few business days to settle.

Depending on the broker, there may be a fee involved. Some brokers (like Stake) currently offer free shares transfer to their account. Best to double check the broker you’re interested in transferring to. www.cmcmarkets.com/en-au/stockbroking/transferring-shares hellostake.com/au/transfer/aus

Gold, But also why do you recommend Stake when Pearler has that auto debit function?
@BryanInvest
@BryanInvest 7 ай бұрын
Thanks mate! Depends what you value. Stake’s brokerage fee is more than twice as cheap. And you could easily get 12 months of free brokerage. Plus I really like the app design. Some people don’t mind manually investing every week, fortnight, or month. Pearler is the only chess sponsored broker that offers auto investing so by default they would win if that’s what people value the most. To each their own 👊

Bryan, what's the biggest difference between buying stock with an app like stake that you own the shares you buy or with an app like Sharesies that you don't actually own it. I feel more comfortable with micro transactions, that's something I can do with Sharesies but not with stake. Am I missing something by trading like that?
@BryanInvest
@BryanInvest Жыл бұрын
Basically if an app is chess sponsored (like Stake) then you own the shares directly. Your name is recorded on the ASX database so if something ever happens to your broker, your shares are easily identifiable. You can also transfer your shares to another broker and set up automatic dividend reinvestments. Using an app like Sharesies is still safe but you are under a custodian model meaning you don't own the shares directly. So you have less flexible to do the things I just mentioned. Value wise, you don't really miss anything. 1 CBA share is worth the same in Sharesies, Commsec, Stake or Superhero.

Your emphasis on finding a broker with low fees and high security is super helpful for beginners. I have been thinking of trying to invest in US stocks, but the only holding me back is the complicated tax report. Do i file the tax myself? Or the brokers file them on my behalf? Which form? Gosh IRS is so complicated.
@BryanInvest
@BryanInvest Жыл бұрын
Usually the broker will file something called a W8 form for you. This is basically a tax treaty we have with the US that ensures we are not double taxed. The broker will normally send you a break down of your buy and sell order then you can work any capital gains yourself. Moomoo currently has a good promo if you're looking to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGe6mHeHf559jtk Also, here are a few articles that may help explain more about investing in US stocks from Australia: www.commsec.com.au/w-8ben community.ato.gov.au/s/question/a0J9s0000001CWx/p00024474

@BryanInvest
@BryanInvest 11 ай бұрын
Absolutely it's possible. With Chess sponsored brokers (including Stake), you have to invest a minimum of $500 whenever you're buying a stock for the first time. Then afterwards, you can invest how ever much you want. With a non Chess sponsored broker, there is no minimum limit to how much you can invest in.

@BryanInvest
@BryanInvest 8 ай бұрын
No worries Swen. Global is usually around 70% US companies. There is no correct or fixed ratio you have to follow. However, I noticed that a lot of investors in the finance community go for a 60/40 or 70/30 US/AU split. The thinking is that Australian stocks only make up 2% of the global market and US stocks make up about 60%.

Hey Daniel, that's amazing. Congrats on starting your journey. With DCA, you don't have to follow it to a tee. If you decide to invest $1,000 per month, most brokers will allow you to enter $1,000 and it will automatically round it to the nearest share unit. Or you can just manually work out the nearest units of shares you want to invest in. So you don't need to worry about hitting $1K exact every time :)

Basically if you invest in shares using any chess sponsored broker, then you will be able to set up DRP using the share registry that your stock is signed up to. Since Superhero is not chess sponsored, technically the shares you bought are still under their ownership and as such the dividends are paid to them (and they pass them onto you). Hi Bryan. Noting that CMC/Stake have the best brokerage fees for purchasing at the current date. However, for when we eventually want to sell (assuming current fees), which broker has the best fees for selling? Is it wise to buy with one broker and sell using another? Are there fees involved in transferring shares between brokers?

Pure GOLD. I currently use nabtrade, having a look at Stake. Brokerage looks good, but the 0.5% funding fee is a bit of a deterrent. Spending $5 to put $1K in there, then $3 to invest it, makes the overall charge very similar to nabtrade, and probably goes even higher than some of it's competitors as the amounts increase. Might be good to do another breakdown including other charges aside from just brokerage
@BryanInvest
@BryanInvest Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! The 0.5% funding fee is only if you fund with a credit/debit card (which I don’t recommend). So it’s free if it’s just a normal bank transfer.

@BryanInvest

Not a dumb question at all mate. You can have as many account as you want on multiple platforms. The only downside is it may make it harder for you to track all your shares. However, I think having a few is optimal so you can use the one that has the cheapest fee at the time.

@@BryanInvest the 0.7% currency fee which makes it 1% with the AUD$-$us conversion already makes it high, the only good thing is say you convert $5000 to US$ it will cost like AUD$53 currently, but that means you can trade as many times as you like minimum US$10 a trade, so in that way its ok i guess, especially like me, i have about 50 US stocks on my watchlist that i wanna eventually buy up big when markets crash, by the way, when you convert your AUD$ to US$ on superhero, where do those US$ go? i know it shows up in my account but which bank exactly are they in when the cash is just sitting there

I’m new to Australia and currently using Pearler and dollar cost averaging IVV index fund, but Pearler doesn’t give me the option to select which batch to sell! Apparently you just tell ATO whatever & they accept manual tracking in excel! This is complete cowboy here. I’m told that’s the case for all Australian brokers. Is that true? In the US with Etrade you can select exactly which stock batch to sell giving you clear cost basis and date of purchase critical for CGT calculations
@BryanInvest
@BryanInvest 4 ай бұрын
Yes, most brokers from my experience work this way. You need to keep a manual record of your batches if you want to sell the cheapest one to sell. Alternatively, you pay for services like Sharesight or Navexa to track this for you.
