Carnival is aware of being called "the ghetto of the seas", "Walmart of the seas", etc. IMO, I think they are doing their very best to stop it with the drug-sniffing dogs, extra security, baggage requirements, etc. We just sailed on Carnival and had a wonderful time

Most excellent and accurate video. Locks on bags are stupid, they handle thousands of bags in a few short hours and the baggage handlers don't have the time or inclination to paw thru your underwear. If your bag is going thru x-ray and a possible prohibited item triggers a a search and the bag is locked, you might be pulled off the ship to open the bag for inspection. Bag searches are videotaped for evidence and the protection of the security officers from false claims of theft. Carnival employs highly trained K-9 dogs for narcotics interdiction. The message is clear, do not bring illegal drugs aboard. If you do there is a good chance you will not sail and will be turned over to law enforcement. Carnival is a great cruise line and they won't hesitate to eliminate potential problem cruisers. As passengers, we are the winners because the safety of Carnival cruise passengers is number one priority for the company.

I had locks on my luggage due to luggage being left in deck hallways, but it did not matter, our luggage did not get to our stateroom until nearly 4:30pm!

Just went on Carnival. Had been on hiatus because of the same reasons as everyone, too many negatives. MAN, DID THEY MAN UP? it's a 360° change for the positive. I WOULD GO AGAIN. With all the security in place, I don't mind 1 bit, they took control back, crowd control and they're not on your neck checking your every turn, but will assist you 24/7. I was waiting for some flaw, on a 7 day, but no? 🤔 It was great, unexpectedly. I would go again. Thanks CARNIVAL 👍🏼

My husband and I try do 2 cruises every year and the cheapest cruise line we can afford is only with Carnival in Louisiana. We always checking in with our big luggage with casual stuff and we carry a small bag with us with all the important documents or something you can't afford to lose or being stolen. ( like my make up stuff😂)

I have a CPAP machine and i let Carnival know about it, i kept getting calls from Carnival to carry it with me (which I did), During embarkation my boarding pass was taken by an offical due to my CPAP machine and looked over by others and then later given back to me....however no one ever checked my machine! As for drinks, my wife and I both drink those Premier Protein drinks ($29.99 for 18 of them at Costco). They are perfect, less than 12 oz. each and they are in cardboard packaging. They fit in the cabin refrigerator and they are great to have one in the morning.

Carnival Cruises starting in Europe allows you to carry on hard liquor with no limits to my knowledge. We only took a bottle of Rum and a bottle of Vodka on embarkation but restocked twice during port days.

Vista is our favorite so far. We have also cruised with the Magic [PartyTime], and Celebration [For the Inauguration. Not thrilled with the theater show location but love Emeril's], and Venezia [Nice ship but!!]. Most of the time it is with RCL. Depending on the itinerary, we look forward to trying a few others with Carnival.

We carried our luggage onto the Panorama. They ran it through X-ray and that's it. We were skipped for the detection dogs. We dropped it off by our stateroom door (As advised) until the room was ready.

I remember when I heard carnival wanted my luggage unlocked, over a year ago, I thought, nope too many people handling it. And there is the addition handling if giving it first to the airport transfer. And yes, I’ve been to the naughty room a couple of times when they couldn’t read a scan! Never had an illegal item to find.

We bring a soft sided cooler bag empty but with carry on items for embarkation, this way we have a larger style cooler to use if needed, especially when there are not small fridges in the staterooms, though that is getting more rare these days.

I have been sailing Carnival since 1996, and have sailed on many others (Disney, Norwegian, Royal), but Carnival is really the "fun" ship" and definitely my cruise line of preference. It is fun, affordable and I have never had an issue.

For shoes. I bought a pair of Black Trail Running shoes by Salomon from REI. They are comfortable, were handy on a Budapest to Bucharest river cruise when it snowed, and do not stand out. They were a problem at a bar in Montevideo when I danced Tango. Leading my partner to do an Ocho was difficult.

Carnival used to allow a small pocket knife but now all knives are banned. One time, years ago, I carried on my Leatherman multi-tool. That's when I learned tools were prohibited and there was no place at the terminal to store it. Fortunately, we were early and I caught the bus back to the parking lot. I study the prohibited items list before every cruise now.

Reasonable rules. One of my favorite pastimes is looking at the prohibited items in the glass cases at the airport. Seriously I’ve seen a weed eater, a chainsaw, a homemade flamethrower! You know it’s there because someone FAAFO.

Fifty pounds is the same for airplanes. How do the other dimensions fit with airplane requirements. Except for two short ballroom dance-themed cruises, my wife and I are either driving the sailboat or on Oceania or Viking. I brought a 12-pack of rootbeer on a Miami-to-LA Oceania cruise. With Oceania, there is always a bottle of wine and a bottle of sparkling wine in our cabin when we board.

RE: Camo - not just clothing - even underwear, handbags, etc with a camo pattern. Apparently, even nontraditional camo colors - like pink, are still considered "camo" and can lead to trouble in some ports...

Great information! We leave Saturday for our first cruise. How do we get water bottles on board if no plastic is allowed? If we bring a small cooler does that mean that is our only carryon? Meaning is it 1 carry on per person? Also can we bring an electric tea kettle?

They lost my luggage on the Breeze, when I finally got my luggage back the cruise was over and I made it home. They shipped my luggage a week later. When I finally received my luggage items were missing. This happened in May. I’m still waiting to hear back from them and yes I filed a claim before I got off the ship. The whole process has been overwhelming I guess next I need to email the news.😢

On a cruise I bring my backpack and a suitcase. I also carry on my luggage. 🤔What if my handcuffs are for something else?😎 As far as the camouflage goes people need to understand that in some places that will be taken as a threat by the local government and that usually does not end well for the person wearing the camo. They also should understand that The rules regarding camouflage Also include backpacks etc. I have to check in my snorkel gear? But I was going to go snorkeling in the pool!!!

Worried about them opening your luggage? Never have anything expensive in your luggage. If there’s a zipper it can be opened and closed with a pen.

We just got back from our cruise in May 2024. We paid $12 for a 12 pack of distilled bottled water. I won’t do that again because we took tumblers and drank water from the beverage fountain stands. First time cruising and we learned a lot!
