2014: Never met a single LGBT person in My life face to face and gay was an insult in my school. 2015: One of my best friends came out bi and I'm not even kidding when I say LGBT people started popping up like a Jack in the box 👬👭👫 Kinda felt out of place since I and two others were the only straight ones 😟 2016: Legitimately half if not most of my friends in my friendship group were LGBTQ Etc aswell as the hottest guy in our school and when I say hot I'm mean tall, Mediterranean skin tone, well built but not overly,Greyish green eyes and messy Jet black hair 😍😍.... Let's just say a lot of hearts were broken😭😔😖😢 2017: Being not straight became the norm in my school and people stop using gay as an insult!😁

You absolutely don't have to come out if you don't want to. Do you have any idea of what their opinion on non-straight and/or non-cis people is (I don't know if you want to come out as gay or as something else) ? If not maybe try to start a conversation or try to stir a conversation in a direction that'll let you know where they stand on the subject. If they seem hostile to the LGBTQA+ community you should probably restrain from telling them (and maybe try to change their mind without outing yourself until you can safely do it). If they don't appear to be hostile, maybe try your chance one on one, starting with the person you're more comforable with. I believe it could be a very good thing for your family, offer you more support, brough you all closer together. Even help them if they're not straight and/or cis themselves (who knows ? I learned that my mother wasn't straight when I came out to her as asexual and panromantic). Bottom line : only come out to them if you want to ; sample the field before walking on it ; if it's a good field and, again, you want to come out to them, I say : go for it, your relationship may change slightly (or may not), but I believe it could be for the best. Good luck ! : )

Caring what society thinks and what your friends and family think are two very different things. When it comes to society, you don't know them, they don't know you, you don't love or respect them and they don't love and respect you. When the love and respect of people you care about comes into the decision making process, that increases the difficulty of the proposition geometrically. Ondine Grimm's suggestion was the best. You need to know how your mother and younger brother see the LGBTQ community. If your family is just you, your brother and your mother, I think you'll be just fine. Mothers only want their children to be happy. They hate even just the idea of their child being in pain and there's no question, hiding something this important to you out of fear of your mother's and brother's reaction will break your mother's heart. If you sit them down and explain to them what you're feeling and how difficult and painful it is to keep this a secret from them, your family will understand. They'll be happy that you can finally free yourself of the burden of keeping this secret part of yourself from them. Chances are you'll probably become even closer with your family now that you no longer have to lie to them about something that you shouldn't have to lie about at all, though I do understand why you would've kept this under wraps from them for so long. I don't know how young your younger brother is but if you trust him with this, he will only respect you more for your courage and he'll look up to you when he has to make a tough decision in the future. You may even inadvertently help others by telling your brother. Your younger brother will be more likely to befriend someone that desperately needs a friend or stick up for someone that needs someone to stand up for them. With his older sibling coming out, that will more than likely encourage him to notice and take care when he sees others being harassed or bullied because they're different. I wish you all the love and luck in the world. Do it like pulling off a band aid so the healing can begin.

I do not get why it is inspirational We are in the 3rd millennium now sexuality should not be an issue. People are who they are and we should be who and what we are freely and honestly. We should only inflict our moral code on ourselves and not inflict it on others, nor should we hold or judge anyone by our own moral standards.
