Cheetah/Leopard Attack Wildebeest
Male cheetahs hunt in packs called coalitions, whereas females hunt alone. These kinds of males are frequently brothers, and they form lifelong bonds. They can take on larger prey like these wildebeests when they work together as a group. When the brothers are hungry, even the worst weather won't stop them. The Ferrari of animals can go from zero to sixty in three seconds. But with a temperature so high it could die if it doesn't halt after 300 yards. That is why they have formed a coalition to work together. Two more cats join the group, this time with fresh legs. The cheetahs choke the wildebeest to death once it is brought down. This is a dangerous gang of brothers.
In this video, what looks like a routine hunt for a cheetah, when it targets and grabs a young wildebeest calf, turns into a nightmare when the calf’s mom shows up and defies the cheetah, saving her calf in the process. Cheetahs are amazing hunters, but they can’t deal with large animals attacking them this way. They need to be the ones pursuing prey to be successful. The cheetah isn't a big cat, but it's incredibly fast, hence the issue for this speedster isn't catching its prey, but rather bringing it down, especially because cheetahs usually hunt alone.
After a tough struggle, the wildebeest manages to fend off the cheetah, forcing it to abandon the hunt. Wildebeest are big and strong and can sometimes give lions trouble, so imagine a slim and light cat such as the cheetah. The leopard's hunting technique is to either ambush its prey or to stalk it. In either instance, it tries to get as close as possible to its target. It then makes a brief and explosive charge, pouncing on its prey and dispatching it with a bite to the neck. In this instance, the leopard set up an ambush in front of its prey and sprung up to catch it.
Cheetah Attack Gazelle
A cheetah runs so fast, that its legs might touch the ground only half the time it's in motion. The gazelle is fast, too... but is it fast enough? Indeed, it isn’t, as the fast feline takes it down and kills it. Even though cheetahs can outrun gazelles, it doesn’t mean they can outmaneuver them, so even though this gazelle was caught and killed, it doesn’t always turn out this way. Many gazelles use their zigzagging skills to escape. A cheetah chases a young gazelle in this video, and with one strike of its paw, knocks it down, before killing it. The gazelle’s mom almost tries to intervene, but when she gets close enough, she changes her mind, realizing she could be next.
The cheetah eats its dinner with a hungry jackal watching nearby, hoping the feline will share, but it’s not the case. Jackals and hyenas are opportunists and are constantly on the lookout for animals that have been hunted and killed by other predators, especially cheetahs because they will seldom defend a kill when they are challenged. Cheetahs are known for their speed, but speed will not get them very far during a gazelle hunt. Cheetahs are unable to run at high speeds for extended periods of time, so they must approach their prey closely before launching a surprise attack.
It's still amazing to watch this cheetah run the way it does and eventually make a kill during this hunt. I never get tired of watching this graceful cat. A cheetah comes running towards a few gazelles in this video, and even though the cat is focused, he doesn’t make it on time, and misses the last gazelle, watching it sprint away. Hunting for these cats, even though they are super-fast is a science, and one mistake, one millisecond lost, is the difference between a successful hunt and a failed one.
