I believe you. Where does it all end? I’ve used the Dallas example of a 24 lane highway to demonstrate the insanity of mans thinking. What’s next? 30 lanes? Then 50. And so on. Use birth control people. THAT is the ONLY answer.

The moment the new I-635 reconstruction opens from 75 to I-30 it will already be obsolete. Thankfully there are tolled express lanes that can help bypass traffic on I-635 albeit insanely expensive at times as the toll changes based on traffic conditions.

"large capacity roads HAVE TO be built in order to...." but, no they don't, and the results of this thinking are horrible and the most inefficient imaginable. Instead, just keep building rail until medium and low capacity roads work just fine. Rail is waaaay more efficient and should always be the first choice. Its usually a grave error when we do otherwise.

In France on roundabouts the feeder road traffic has NOT the right of way. There are exemptions like the huge one you mentioned but the roundabout sign clearly has "the traffic inside the roundabout has priority". The Arc the triomphe one does not have roundabout signage. So its right before left - hence the feeder traffic has the right of way

Most of these are motorway/freeway interchanges. Two intersections in city downtowns that involved multiple streets coming together were Confusion Corner in Stuart, FL and The Octopus in Ithaca, NY, both of which I had the pleasure of negotiating. Thankfully, both were redesigned to make them rather less daunting, mainly by splitting each one into two.

23:00 There's a huge mistake. Almost all roundabouts in France are with priority to the vehicles circulating on the ring. Roundabouts with priority to vehicles entering are a local exception that only exist in Paris and its suburbs. Also the Arc de Triomphe is absolutely not in the center of Paris. And insurance companies don't charge extra for going around it. This is ridiculous.
@hermera4544
@hermera4544 Жыл бұрын
just curious, what is the benefit to prioritize entering traffic flow?
@christianbarnay2499
@christianbarnay2499 Жыл бұрын
@@hermera4544 The benefit is to avoid an entry being locked because of a continuous flow with no gaps because no vehicle is exiting at that location. Prioritizing the entry flow encourages the traffic in the ring to migrate to inner lanes, giving room on the outer lane for entering vehicles. There are of course other issues but in a very dense traffic area like Paris it is an acceptable compromise.

#3: Amarillo, Texas also has a turbine-style interchange---the junction of I-40 and I-27. However, the one in Amarillo is built on a much smaller footprint. This leads to the curves being much tighter, and it can be quite nerve-wracking to drive. There have been calls to replace it with a conventional stack interchange.

The thing is, the USA has largely abandoned full cloverleafs. The nature of the issue is that the on-ramp leaf dumps accelerating traffic right at the same point where exiting traffic is slowing down to get into the off-ramp leaf. Accidents increase as a result. I only knew of one full four-leaf clover, which used to be located in WPB, FL, but it has since been redesigned to no longer work like that. Now it has traffic lights like most of them. I'm more interested in the "Double Diamond" setup, which is an interesting variant. I've seen it in a couple places.

Yes. I live near Dallas. This part of the video confused me. I was begging to wonder if they counted the I-30, I-35E, I-45, Hwy 75 connections in downtown Dallas as part of the Hi-5 project even though they are in two completely parts of the city. Maybe they just put the downtown shots because many people identify Dallas when they see the globe shaped Reunion Tower.

I drive the Charles de Gaulle Etoile (Arc de Triomphe) daily and it is not that difficult. It respects the rule that governs all road traffic in France, which is that you yield to traffic on your right, which explains why traffic IN the circle must yield to traffic entering the circle. This is not difficult in practice, the major difficulty being EXITING the roundabout, which must be planned ahead of time. But int the worst of cases, you simply go around one more time. Despite popular mythology, there are very rarely any accidents in this interchange, and NO, there is definitely no "rule" by insurance companies forbidding its use. I have driven it daily for over 20 years, and have "maybe" seen one or two minor fender-benders there.

We had an interchange here in Toronto between the Don Valley Parkway (which parallels the Don River, so occasionally will partially flood) and the Gardiner Expressway (one of those 1950s-era elevated freeways that crosses between downtown Toronto and Lake Ontario to its south). First, the expressway basically cuts off the parts of land south of it from having decent pedestrian access: a Lakeshore Boulevard runs beneath it with poorly designed entrances and exits making it and the parkway above it gridlocked. That is worse when there is a game with fans heading in (I got stuck in a jam of fans when I was trying to get elsewhere with my van overheating…complete nightmare as people were “protecting” their inches-forward momentum). At this interchange, cars suddenly realize that they either have to exit left to get to the Boulevard, right to get to the Expressway, with a 3rd option that I’m blanking on. At least now the river has been cleaned up and some industrial plants that used to be there decades ago have closed. Back in the day, you drove past polluted river smell combined with olfactory attack from both a rendering plant and a soybean plant. You’d literally hold your breath and plug your nose! Toronto may be a cool city in other ways but we have just the worst urban transportation structure.
