15 English slang words that you absolutely have to know in 2020 in order to understand TikTokers, KZbinrs, and other cool people on this planet. These terms are used in American, British and Australian English.
(1) Lit. When something is exciting, really enjoyable, you can say it’s “lit.”
(2) GOAT. It is an acronym of Greatest Of All Time.
(3) Snatched. When someone is wearing something that is very fashionable or has a look that looks really good.
(4) On fleek. This can be used as a replacement for "on point," meaning something has been perfectly done.
(5) Salty. You can say someone is salty when they get upset or angry over something.
(6) Fit. Unlike the British version of the term "fit," which means attractive, in the United States, "fit" is just the shortened version of the word "outfit".
(7) Dead. As slang, it means that something is so funny or ridiculously good it's forced you to be hyperbolic.
(8) Fire. It is used to refer to something that is really cool and amazing.
(9) Low-key. This can be used as a replacement for "quiet," "modest," "not very assertive."
(10) High-key. It is the opposite of low-key.
(11) Shady. When someone is very sneaky, suspicious, you can say that person is "shady"
(12) Savage. This word is used as internet slang when describing a shocking event or a careless attitude.
(13) Shook. When someone is shook it means they are shocked or incredibly surprised.
(14) Slay. To "slay" is to do really well or succeed at something.
(15) Stan. "Stan" can be a noun for an overzealous and obsessive fan, and a verb meaning to be that kind of fan. It originated from an Eminem song of the same name.

Some advice for non-native speakers: It is important to learn slang terms so you know what others are saying, but I recommend that you do not use them. You will most definitely get the use wrong and just sound like an old person trying to talk like the kids.

Lit can be used in two other ways as well. Like “I’m so lit right now,” as in; I’m very high or drunk. Also gamers use it to tell their teammates they’re injured. “I’m lit! I’m lit!”

I haven't heard "I'm lit" in that context. I've heard "I'm hit" and "I'm lit up," but never just "I'm lit." I'll have to keep my ear open for that.

Usually people don't speak like a KZbin presentation. Watch my videos and I bet you'll understand me. In conversation, there is more phrasal verbs, ellipsis, cultural references, people talk quicker, idioms, slang, as well as different accents. She is someone who has learned English to a high standard but still makes mistakes and speaks like a non-native speaker. I've taught English for over 14 years and now even though I'm a native speaker, the English in my videos is non-comparable to natural English. To improve your listening skills, you must listen to natural English... align your listening content to your real-life situations.

28 year old American from California: 1. Lit can also be used as a joking way to say "great". 2. Goat is used all the time 3. I've never heard of snatched 4. on fleek is a joking way to saying on point. don't use this in a serious/neutral context 5. salty is very common 6. no one says "fit' as an outfit. Just say "outfit" 7. dead is used like "I'm dead 😂" to describe something really funny. very common 8. 'fire' is commonly used. you could also use 🔥 if its in text 9. low-key is very common. "I want to keep this party low-key" 10. I never hear "high-key". I don't recommend saying this 11. shady is very common 12. savage is common 13. shook is common 14. slay is common but its more used in a joking/light hearted way. 15. stan, I haven't heard this one before. Just my 2 cents. Everyone speaks differently!

You're ability to teach is great, my English madam. I've been looking your videos. One day, I'll call you. I'm from India. Madam, my native language is bengali,- but madam... I love English language very much, always i wanna speak English language, but madam here everyone speaks bengali and hindi language. I'm a Msc Astrophysics's student. I don't have any English speaking friends here. If i wanna speaks English language with anyone then most of them think about me, 'I'm arrogant'. So, always I've been talking to myself English language. Madam, I think...English is my best language for me.
